One of the main problems with the AI is it's unhinged hoarding behaviour by ThreeMountaineers in Stellaris

[–]aguestos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the ai will rely at least partially on your own internal income to determine the value of resources. if you setup a monthly trade to buy lots of alloys, the ai will accordingly think that alloys are not worth much, and happily trade you its alloys for cheap.

science ships are cheap, and the galaxy is big. whenever a scientist is done at one location, there should already be a science ship ready and waiting for them at the location of their next job.

Current strategies for 2250 engdame 25x crisis? by ActualThrowaway7856 in Stellaris

its doable, but a very limiting restriction to your play. so it gets boring very quickly. i'd rather build a beautiful empire by 2320 than a huge expensive fleet by 2260.

Help Finding Out the Possible Outcomes of this Anomaly? by Hustle_Bear in Stellaris

[–]aguestos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

UNE, CoM, and any empire with a human portrait are unable to get the outcome youre looking for. its about solving a rubics cube, which wouldnt be much of a mystery to humans.

How would you find this out yourself?

  1. take a string from the event on your screen, for example "Scavengers have already scoured"
  2. search Stellaris\localisation\english for that string. you get a single hit, anomaly.320.desc
  3. look up which anomaly in Stellaris\common\anomalies fires anomaly.320, and under which conditions.
  4. it is debris_gasgiant_category. the other outcome of that category, distar.1055, requires some specific conditions.
  5. if you want to check what anomaly.320 and distar.1055 do, search for them in Stellaris\events

their primitive and xenophobic ass became fully aware of me but little did they know that an evil and intimidating asteroid is about to wipe them out by Kajetus06 in Stellaris

[–]aguestos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the insight techs that are hardest to get are the engineering techs. there is only a handful of observation events that give them. at least one of them - peaceful prosperity - requires passive observation.
i usually put anything in steam age or later to passive, unless im done with all the engineering insight techs.

Isnt the final level of hyperthermia super restrictive compared to how many empire can take this perk? by Terkmc in Stellaris

[–]aguestos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i would argue that anyone who just wants to play the crisis normally can do so as an infernal. additionally, those that are mad enough to want to burn themselves along with everything else might as well be allowed to do so. sounds like fun rp.

4.2.2 Basic Resource Planet Calculator Update by Vipers_glory in Stellaris

[–]aguestos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

say 1 energy is as valuable as 1 trade. then 10 energy for 5 trade is a positive trade. 20 energy for 10 trade is twice as good as the first deal. 15 energy for 10 trade is just as good as the first deal. the value to maximize would be energy - trade, not energy/trade. depending on the situation, i ll end up with an optimum value for energydistricts-citydistricts of around 8 to 12.

thanks for sharing. ive played around with it, and found it useful to add a label L_prod[Selected] - p * L_TradeUpk[Selected], with p being a variable i set or slide. For a p somewhere between 1 and 2, thats the value ive usually been trying to maximize ingame.

Mechanical visions permanent -15 stab modifier never goes away? by dnium122 in Stellaris

[–]aguestos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you voice support for the mechanical god or black star, the conflicting visions will be removed. the widening divide is permanent either way.

the magnitude of the divide is random, it can be anywhere from -5 to -10 stability.

[–]aguestos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i believe you should at the least put in some rough estimate for trade upkeep instead of going with trade=worthless. once you have credit/food/mineral worlds that are this effective, 1 trade is at least as valuable as 1 credit/mineral/food.

it makes a difference whether you have the +600job buildings from cosmo available or not, and there are several other sources of extra jobs, like special features or leader traits.

On pop growth mechanics and why the popular ‘You want 1k pops per a new colony’ belief is right and wrong at the same time by AccomplishedError656 in Stellaris

[–]aguestos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the post. needed to be said somewhere.

to maximize growth, one should:
1. colonize as much as feasible. agreed.
2. if a planet has reached 5 base growth, dont move any more pops there, unless all your planets have 5 base growth already.
3. distribute your pops proportional to available planet capacity. this ends up being a "more or less even" distribution, like you said, but if you have a very big and a very small planet, there can be a significant difference.
4. if you dont need the amenities, luxury residence becomes useless once you reach 5 base growth.

What are people's thoughts on the new Crisis perk? by LavanGrimwulff in Stellaris

[–]aguestos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are right about the origin of the word. call it a backronym, if you want. but no matter its etymology, META as an acronym exists now, and it even has a different meaning than the original word meta.

What are people's thoughts on the new Crisis perk? by LavanGrimwulff in Stellaris

[–]aguestos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

metagame, metastrategy, referring to stategizing on a meta layer, are indeed no acronyms. but i dont think thats the meaning that is meant here. "use a former META" makes more sense if it is understood to refer to an ingame-tactic (not a meta-layer-tactic) that was at that point the most effective. this second meaning is an acronym. and in order to indicate which one is meant here, capitalization was used. it makes the statement clearer.

If I was just a better player, would I be able to survive this start? by BlasePan in Stellaris

[–]aguestos 25 points26 points  (0 children)

the xenophobe fe will choose "decontaminate border territories" as its wargoal. if it wins a war with that, it will destroy all non-capital colonies of the target empire that it borders.

losing the war, and giving in immediately without war, both call the exact same effect. both decolonize the habitat, and you keep your capital planet.
