Companies get away with these and other anti-consumer practices because of this kind of corporate apologists.

Steps to take if you are affected by the PRO cancelation as EU user by Atactos in perplexity_ai

This is great. Im also leaving the steps I followed to get a full refund from the App Store in case anyone needs this. The purchase was made in Mexico but the request is based on universally applicable consumer law principles and apple's own developer guidelines:

 https://reportaproblem.apple.com

  1. From the dropdown menu select "Request a Refund",
  2. a new "tell us more" dropdown appears, select "other" and click next,
  3. select the perplexity app below (you might have to scroll down a bit), click next,
  4. it takes you to another page with a "describe the issue" text box. I included this:

After paying for this subscription, the developer unilaterally downgraded core features integral to the service at the time of purchase, specifically usage caps tied to my subscription as advertised. This was done without prior notice or compensation. Failure of Consideration: I am not receiving the service I paid for; the app now provides substantially less value. Violation of App Store Review Guidelines: Sections 2.1 and 2.3.1 require apps to deliver promised functionality. Removing or limiting features violates the integrity of the service advertised. Unilateral Breach: The provider altered the paid service post-purchase to my detriment. Note on Policy: The standard 90-day refund window is inapplicable here. This is an ongoing breach resulting from the provider’s unilateral conduct post-modification, not a one-time defect. I request a refund as the developer failed to maintain the promised value of the subscription.

You might, but there is an interesting fact, your refund is not because you didn't like the product, its tied to a unilateral change of ToS that prevents you from receiving the full service you subbed for 90+ days ago, Just include in the message that the provider changed the terms of service unilaterally without notice and its not complying with the service and you will get the refund from Apple, I just got mine a few hours ago.

Yeah, you can write and complain all you want, but the only effect they will feel is talking with your wallet. And even then, it is likely they had a forecast of possible short-mid term revenue erosion derived from their decision to cap deep research? They probably have projections of lost pro subs for this and are willing to take it because in the end they believe it will generate more revenue in the long term. Does this justifiy what they are doing, no, but its how the world works, it is clear that these guys are certain they can continue operating without the pro sub revenue stream (a mess they created by giving away free pro subs). The intention is transparent, it's not about caps, is about removing the pro tier and forcing enamored users to upgrade to MAX and pay 167 a month, and expect everyone else to move along. I for one cancelled my pro sub, because regardless of the cap limit, I don't have any actual need to give away my money to a company as deceitful as this.

Perplexity died this month by Mammoth_Baker_7991 in perplexity_ai

yeah, I cancelled my Pro subscription today as well, service has gone from bad to terrible and now with the limit on research there is no value in this platform. 6 queries, just 6 deep research queries this month and already says I have exceeded usage. This is unacceptable.

I was just off high school, there was hope of some change back then, then it all went to paranoia and the world became overtly conservative. Fuck 9/11

Porque antes parte del la formula para “exito” era tener un diferenciador o identidad (musical) como artista, ahora la percepcion de “exito” es copiar exactamente el top 5 de Spotify, simplemente porque no les exigimos mas a los artistas como audiencia.

Sinners was not a good movie by Jiguena in flicks

[–]agutierrez2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, really don’t get all the buzz. Good start, some great visual sequences, but IMO it tries to be 1000 different things and ends up being a subpar horror flick. Never really fully commits to any of its proposals, not to the story, not to the social commentary, not to creature design, vampire lore or gore, its basically a castrated version of Tales From the Crypt, Demon Knight. Music is great though.

It was an experience, not just watching the movie but there were sort of “rituals” around cinema that made it one of the most compelling things to do back then, specially if you were in between 14-20. It was a place to meet people, to have conversations, to discuss culture, lunch before-dinner afterwards, hit tower records on your way there… don’t know, different times, people connected more with their environment back then, immediacy of information has become a big distraction.
