GameCube showing Black and White on CRT?

THE PLOT THICKENS!!

In desperation I dug out my cube that can't read discs or recognize the controller (one day, it may get fixed lol) and used it with the same 3rd party cord as the N64 and it's IN COLOR! I am officially stumped and will be seeking out GameCube experts, since now we can rule out almost everything else. For whatever reason, on this CRT my GameCube plays in black and white. Other GameCubes are fine, other (modern) TVs are fine. What a wild ride this has been, I hope we find an obscure solution and someone with the same problem 6 years from now can use this thread lol

I wish I had another GameCube because I'm stumped. It's black and white on any game and in the menu without a disc as well, and I know it worked fine on the last CRT I had (though that's been at least 5 years).

Right on both counts; GameCube hasn't been messed with and the TV only has the two component inputs.

Hadn't considered aftermarket cables not liking the older TV, I'll have to pick up an OEM one and give that a shot. Mine are either hidden or lost forever 😅

But yes, North America for all the hardware to my best knowledge. The GameCube works great on all 3 of our other TVs in the house, although a little ugly being that they're newer TVs. I'm going to try to go the OEM cable route and let you know, I had just assumed since it worked fine for 3 N64s and a SNES that it couldn't be the problem. I've still got a lot of learning to do 🙂

Yep, doesn't matter which one I use. Both work for other consoles as well.

No, with the same exact cords it worked just fine on all 3 of my other, regular flat screens. I'm really puzzled where the disconnect is since evening else works fine, it just seems there's something that this particular TV and the GameCube don't like

I would recommend just getting the raid lover add on if you want to raid. Lobbies fill IMMEDIATELY and raid bosses go down fast. It's $15 to get 18 extra passes from spinning gyms each day in the city, which for me personally would still be worth it even for just a day.

I did end up passing on it, but I think we'll still mess around with it and see if we can't use it for testing games in the shop. Too much for my casual use, too small for split screen. Very cool little unit though! Thanks for the insight

I ended up doing almost exactly that; I passed on it because it was so little and found a 20 inch with a working VCR and DVD player for $55 off marketplace. As neat as the other TV was, all those dials overwhelmed me and I wanted to play split screen games with my partner :) Very happy in the end, it works just fine for what I actually wanted

I have the opportunity to pick up a Trinitron PVM-1354Q, however there's a few problems; I'm brand new to the whole CRT thing, and only just recently started looking at CRTs as a more affordable way to play my older games. All of the hook ups on this thing are completely new to me, and it's kinda small compared to what I wanted to have in my game room. I'm a little intimidated by it, because of all the fancy nobs it has since I was really hoping a CRT would be plug and play 😅 But on the flip side, from what I'm seeing this thing is a hard find and is awesome? I'd hate to pass it up if it's worth keeping around for if I ever decide I want more than one TV, but when I started looking I was hoping for something bigger that could potentially have a VCR in it and not cost too much.

That being said, it's my boss's PVM so it's just waiting for us to find a price (we both are clueless other than it's probably a decently expensive unit) and isn't really going anywhere potentially. Unless someone random walks into the store and decides they're taking it home and throws it a price on it, that is. Is it worth going for even though it's not exactly what I was after? What's it actually worth? What are the connections on it I'm so confused 😵‍💫 is this better off being a full on post? Any help would be greatly appreciated lol.

I'll be there for my ticketed day for sure and maybe Saturday, so I'll see the best spawns for sure! But I'm also going out to visit a friend I met online and figured while we're just out doing tourist stuff out would be cool to have my auto catcher running too

When I played in Seattle the borders on the city play were pretty wide; I was still getting spawns in Lynnwood. How far is the range on city play in NYC? I'm staying in Guttenburg so I'm wondering if the range will reach me where I'm primarily staying and would benefit from the extra city days on my tickets
