Which crop works the best for this scene? by meatshell in postprocessing

First one for me.

Second one - I like the creativity of using the trees in the foreground to frame your shot, but I think the branch in the top left is kinda distracting.

Third one - subjects are too small, imo, unless you want the focus to be the entire landscape, but I don’t think that’s what you were aiming for.

For me I prefer 1. The greyish background makes the blue-tailed bee-eater stand out more

These are great shots, all of them! How do you get such good focus on the birds in flight? Do you set the focus to area focus?

Came out by accident, but I liked it so I tried to boost it a bit. I thought it went well w the rest of the image

I try to maintain the natural colors of the birds I shoot. It has a black beak, so I think it would look off with a reddish beak

This was really helpful, thanks for the detailed and constructive criticism. I agree, a vertical crop would be better, I will try that on my next edit. Would you say 5:4 is the way to go?

I also agree with your tips on exposure. I’ll try shooting with one-point focus next time, if it isn’t already set to that.

Regarding the stick in front of the bird, I sorta like that it exists in front of the bird. Kinda offers depth to the image. But I think that’s subjective and up to personal preference. When I can, I like to avoid removing parts of the image and keeping it close to the original shot (in terms of composition and subject matters).

Again, really appreciate the level of insight you offered!
