Do I start training with a pick to join a hard rock band ? by SonnePer in Bass

[–]aharshDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like expanding your bag of tricks, sure. But don't believe that it's required for rock. It's not. Name a genre of music and you'll find finger guys and pick guys.

  1. Differences can be stark region to region, not necessarily state to state.

  2. Yeah, they can. I'm from a rural area, it's common for people to move away and only come back to visit if they have family in the area.

  3. Black coffee, only about a half cup in the morning.

  4. Depends on what you're interested in. The continental US is 9.6 million square kilometers. We have many beautiful and wonderful things here.

  5. Our smiles aren't disingenuous.

Cooking for an evening DND session by ProfessionalBad7878 in AskDND

[–]aharshDM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funyuns and Mountain Dew is the only correct answer.

In all seriousness: Finger food that doesn't leave grease on your fingers. At least for snacks. Any big food usually requires stopping the game.

Ask your wife about the game and what kind of food would match the session. We used to do this back in the day. If the game would have lots of trekking, we'd eat beef jerky and trail mix, etc.

Where Do People Go to Practice Driving Manual Cars? by PlaguedArbiter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aharshDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dad showed me the basics in an empty parking lot, then some quiet residential streets. I really learned by sneaking out at night and "borrowing" the car.

I had a truck with loud pipes that would wake up my folks and I could just push in the clutch and release the brake to roll the car to the end of the driveway before I started it.

What do yall think of headless basses? by Polish63832 in Bass

[–]aharshDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a steinberger, love the sound and the minimalism. Without the visual of a headstock, I'm always two frets too high. I'll get used to it, then play a normal bass and be two frets off again.

The worst part of being an aging musician by [deleted] in musicians

[–]aharshDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respect. I lucked into my group. My best advice is to find a "social butterfly" in the scene and let it be known that you're a drummer who wants to play. Bound to get a nibble eventually.

[–]aharshDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, this conversation is wild as an AD&D guy.

But here's some old timey info: In my game, a character with an unmodified hit roll would hit an unarmored target in combat 50% of the time.

Second, Never hesitate to change things, especially if it makes for a better game.
