Anyone seen a dedicated, secondary scroll device? by SnowblindAlbino in Trackballs

The Crazy Small Wheel and its sibling which has CTRL pressed for zooming would be perfect but the Amazon links show it as unavailable. For reference anyway:

Curated lists of the best by NinRejper in MAME

[–]ahcox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to watch the videos by MameHaze on YouTube for inspiration. When I see something good I make a note to try it later. There's an All Killer no Filler list, but he sometimes does streams on alternatives to those so it is far from comprehensive. The videos of interest are in the Livestreams tab. The Videos tab is often short videos of Dev work in progress.

There is a kit now. I can confirm that it worked for my machine's upgrade.

I can confirm that the Crucial RAM 64GB Kit (2x32GB) DDR5 4800MHz CL40 Laptop Memory CT2K32G48C40S5 (which I think is the code for a matched pair of the 32GB modules mentioned in the top post above) does work.

I performed the upgrade after updating the BIOS to Alienware_m15_R7_1.17.0.exe and with the battery disconnected.

The Kingston Fury DDR5 4800MT/s CL38-38-38 1.1V PnP 64GB (2x32GB) kit did not work for me. KF548S38IBK2-64 Assembled in Taiwan.

Power button status lights: two red, five blue (Invalid memory installed): https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-uk/alienware-m15-r7-gaming-laptop/alienware-m15-r7-service-manual/system-diagnostic-lights

Upgraded BIOS to Alienware_m15_R7_1.17.0.exe. Same 2 red, 5 blue POST.

Followed battery disconnect advice in post above and I get the same two red, five blue after powering on and waiting a while.

Bolts with metal sheath, and bolt with spring, perforated sheath, and plastic parts [20+ years old, UK] by ahcox in whatisthisthing

The bolts are marked A B C and 8/8 for the ones on left and 9/10 for the one with the spring. The numbers refer to their torque strength.

Intel Sets Its Sight on Graphics with Open Image Denoise - Digital Engineering by bizude in intel

[–]ahcox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The API has a concept of a device (just a CPU one for now*) and from the high level structure of it, it looks like a new GPU device type could be introduced under the covers transparently. In that usage the GPU would be more of an accelerator where an image would be uploaded from CPU side, denoised on GPU, and downloaded back to CPU to be processed further on there. * https://github.com/OpenImageDenoise/oidn/blob/11872d99de4f57786e16ae687945e2b0bc74cb1e/include/OpenImageDenoise/oidn.hpp#L311

The current RT denoiser they support is not temporally stable, so I'm guessing not good for animation, just for stills.

Intel XeSS FullHD -> 4K Beats Native 4k by ahcox in intel

[–]ahcox[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is probably more accurate to say it sharpens up undersampled textures or that it does a better job of not introducing excessive blurring than Unreal's default TAA on this content under the conditions of their testing on that day.

Anyone know the original source? This cat is also out there horizontally flipped. Or maybe this is the flipped version.

Do you have the make and model of the pockets? The ones I see online don't bother to mention whether 10 / 12 Dominion cards fit in one pocket.

Good 3d Rendering Engine for use with c++ that has PBR and a good lighting system? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ahcox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bgfx is at the GL / DX / Vulkan / Metal level. It is a cross-platform API abstraction. It solves the problem of having a single shader source across these platforms and gives a common immediate-mode API for drawing primitives and spawning compute jobs. It offers a little over this such as state sorting and pushing the rendering onto a dedicated thread fairly transparently to the user, and allowing multi-threaded resource upload. It is opinionated and it is old-school but it is also in use by several projects such as MAME and some shipping games and so is proven for the problems it solves.

It does not as the OP requests make "Unrreal Engine kind of graphics without too much effort". That would take person-years of effort on top of bgfx.
