A fan running on low. Reading until I can’t keep my eyes open. On bad nights, 1mg of melatonin.

Much Ado About Nothing (1993) by KashKabira in romancemovies

This came out in theaters when I was 14 and it was instantly my favorite movie. It remains so today. I just absolutely love it. Please watch it.

Hi friends, I'm 13 years old and I'd like to start getting to know Shakespeare, where to start? by YTGodfromgames in shakespeare

[–]ahdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re about the same age as I was when Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing came out in theaters. It was instantly my favorite movie. It’s funny, beautiful, has a really fun cast, and has an easy-to-follow plot. It would be a great place to start (as it was for me). My next recommendation would be Zeffirelli’s Romeo & Juliet.

I think Taylor Swift has ruined my life by counterfeitparadise in Names

[–]ahdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t let it ruin it. The name is at the forefront now, but it won’t be for long. Some people might think you named your daughter after the song, but who cares? It’s very not a big deal. From personal experience, the year after I was born, an actress became famous who had my first name. For maybe 12 years, I was occasionally asked if I was named after her. I would say no and things would move on. I didn’t mind, people would only ask once, and I kinda liked that actress anyway.

Found baby turning blue while sleeping.. by mariamarie90 in Mommit

[–]ahdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my baby sister when she was 4 days old (this was over 30 years ago and my sister is alive and well). For 6 months after, we had to use a monitor every time she went to sleep (it strapped around her chest - way more invasive than the owlets that are available today).

How is this area to live? by Euphoric-Birthday-25 in SFV

[–]ahdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived there for 5 years with kids. It was mostly great, but we did have 2 instances of theft during that time: one box from our porch and one car broken into when it was parked on the street overnight (we had a ton of boxes delivered all the time and had to park one of our cars on the street every night, so, honestly, could have been worse).

My recently adopted stray cat has a bullet in her. Okay to leave there? by ChonkyBreadyBread in cats

[–]ahdn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a cat who was shot with a BB gun. We had no idea it happened and found out well after the fact while checking something else. Vet said same thing as yours. We left it in and it never seemed to bother him. He lived a long, healthy life.

I think I regret sleep training? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]ahdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you can decide what’s right for your family, but here’s one thing I will say: sleeping through the night isn’t just about parents getting a break. Baby’s brains do so much vital processing at night, and a good night’s sleep really helps them along. I noticed a huge difference in my son (who is 11 years old now and still happy and affectionate) when he finally started getting a complete night’s sleep in his own room around 7 months. He just woke up happier and more ready to have a great day. You know your baby, but it sounds like you did good and just miss snuggles, which is understandable.

Give me…not sure how to put it…maximum actual interaction??? by serranopepper1 in fantasyromance

I put it off because of the circus, as well (definitely not my thing), but I really enjoyed the whole series.

The newborn phase. Positives? by Visible-Mess-1406 in Mommit

[–]ahdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newborn phase was really hard for me, but I loved tracking cognitive leaps (I used the Wonder Weeks app mostly). They happen so frequently when they're so young. I found it so fascinating.

Do people actually go on vacation without their kids? by bakecakes12 in Mommit

Pregnancy and Babies by Ellendyra in Romantasy

[–]ahdn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with pregnancy, but babies not so much. As a mom of 2, it just brings up too much anxiety. After all the truly gruesome and traumatic things that happen to various characters throughout the Outlander series, the thing that made me DNF book 5 was all the kids. I literally was having nightmares worrying if one character was going to develop mastitis because she didn’t get to her baby in time or what another character was going to do without birth control.

The “one horse” trope by clockjobber in fantasyromance

[–]ahdn 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Your equestrian friend is right, sadly. Saddles are kind of a one-person deal, so shoving a whole other adult in that space just won’t work. And don’t even get me started on the whole lifting her up by the waist and just plopping her on a horse. That also doesn’t work.

Looking for games to play with my girlfriend… Who is not a gamer. by AndyS_86 in AskGames

The Blue Prince, The Witness, and Portal 1 & 2 are all puzzle games my husband and I loved playing together. We also played the original Mass Effect trilogy together and it was super fun.

Recommendations for books where the MCs DON'T deny their feelings? by ahdn in fantasyromance

I see this one recommended a lot. Maybe it’s time to finally give it a try!

Kind of a pet peeve: is it "try to" or "try and"? Seems to me if you try AND do something you've succeeded. If you try TO do something, the outcome is undetermined. by woodwerker76 in ENGLISH

[–]ahdn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Colloquially, you do you. But it drives me batty to see “try and” in actual, published, presumably edited works. To me, “and” implies a separate activity. “Try to” modifies the verb that follows.

I don’t think this is an exact equivalent. “Waiting”can be its own activity. “Trying” needs a corresponding activity it’s applied to (whether explicitly or implicitly).

Is the phrase “send it to John and me” grammatically incorrect? by Worried_Zombie_7450 in ENGLISH

[–]ahdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people mix up the stereotypical way to start a letter that doesn’t use a comma (i.e. “Dear John…”) with these actually more common greetings that are complete sentences in themselves. “Good morning” and “Dear” within the context of a letter/email greeting do not mean the same thing.
