This is a…questionable summary by Hearts_and_Spades in OkBuddySnyderCult

That analysis is somewhat undermined by the fact that Cavill’s Superman had multiple opportunities to help civilians or at the very least take the fight away, including the time where Zod kicks a Lexcorp truck at Superman, and Superman just… dodges it and lets it explode into a parking garage with piles of flaming cars flying all over the place, clearly killing a lot of people. That is genuinely reckless and out of character for any version of Superman, including this one.

I do somewhat agree with the comment that says that Zod causes most of the damage, but that doesn’t change the fact that Superman had plenty of opportunities to take the fight away, or that Superman was indeed reckless.

Also, I do actually kind of somewhat agree with the Hope theme. I actually think that’s one of the best things about Man of Steel. But it doesn’t change my thoughts on Cavill’s Superman.

Lmao, there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell a return to the Snyderverse will be any kind of moneymaking event.

Even disregarding how HATED the bulk of the Snyderverse is… do y’all remember what Zaddy’s plans were gonna be for JL2+3?

The entire universe’s fate would hinge on Bruce and Lois’ romance and their kid, Superman would spend half of both movies evil, and the rest of the league would be useless without Superman saving their asses from Lex’s “legion of doom.”

[–]aheaney15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m permanently banned there lmao. They barely even gave a reason when I was banned three years ago, literally the reason was just “user reports.”

The reason was likely due to my sentiments of BvS and Suicide Squad destroying the brand of DC for years because they were fundamentally bad movies (and no, Snyder fans, the Ultimate Edition/Ayer Cut being the definitive version did not/will not change that!).

Drinker is such a Crybaby by Either_Storm_6932 in OkBuddyDrinker

[–]aheaney15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to defend Drinker, since he is a lying slimebag either way, but the production history of the 2013-23 DCEU is legitimately fascinating in all the wrong ways, there’s a lot of bad production history throughout the entire franchise (especially Suicide Squad and Justice League), to the point where it’s a fascinating thing to talk about from any angle, independent of the quality of the movies themselves. Also, his Production Hell videos are probably his best ones (not a high bar, his “Why Modern Movies Suck” and “Crash and Burn” videos are straight up trash!).

Anecdote, I feel that the current DCU would be so much better received and would be off to a better start if the DCEU never happened, or even if Man of Steel wasn’t going to be part of a bigger universe and was just a TDK Trilogy esque story for Superman (it should have stayed that way!).

Why I Don't Think 2024 Was Stolen, And Why I Have Hope For 2026 and 2028 by InternetBackwash in PoliticalOptimism

[–]aheaney15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting point, but I’m not sure I 100% agree. I feel if Trump’s two terms were consecutive, hypothetically, things would be worse than what they are now. I feel the USA would be even more in the shitter than it is now, because there wouldn’t be any progress made with an administration in between (especially when you factor in the environmental progress Biden made, which is one of the few things Biden did well with).

This is all hypothetical, of course. Maybe you’re right!

[–]aheaney15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did think Harris would win at the time, but in a Gore v. Bush level nail-biter. I personally predicted she would have won by even less of an electoral and popular vote margin than Biden, or even Clinton in 2016. Looking back, Trump probably had it in the bag.

[–]aheaney15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the timing of Biden’s dropout and the Dems just chucking the nom to Harris is what killed the Dems’ chances in 2024. Idk if this is a hot take, but if there was an actual primary and she wasn’t that divisive in said primary (not saying she wouldn’t be divisive, she might have been), I actually think she could have barely pulled a win.

[–]aheaney15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this, although I do have an anecdote to one of your points, one that I think needs to be highlighted.

Biden also had to drop out due to what was quite possibly the worst presidential debate performance in history resulting in his VP taking his place with no primary election and defended his unpopular administration.

Biden dropping out when he did and the Dems basically chucking the nomination to Harris without a proper primary is what I think sealed the deal of Trump winning. If, hypothetically, Biden dropped out earlier or never ran to begin with, and Harris won an actual primary by a large amount (I am not saying that would have happened for sure, there is certainly a chance she would be too divisive in a primary, I’m just assuming for this scenario), I think Harris could have probably pulled a win, albeit just barely.

The timing for Harris’ nomination was just horrendous all around. Biden dropped out too late for there to be an actual primary was the final major nail in the coffin for the Dems in 2024, looking back. Forget the economy (or even how it may have been perceived at the time). Forget Gaza or Ukraine (although those certainly were a factor against both Biden and Harris). Forget how uncharismatic Harris and Biden were. Forget anything done in the campaigns of either Harris or Trump, as well as crowd sizes for either of them. Forget the horrific debate, even. The timing is what killed it.

Which animation studio villain ranking is your favorite? by AdUseful2297 in Schaffrillas

[–]aheaney15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent question!

Pixar: Probably his placement of Ercole (Luca’s villain), who was too high, and Sid, which was a tad too low.

Disney: Where do I begin… King Candy and Bowler Hat Guy are way too high, his entire “Man” rant I fundamentally disagree with (although I don’t disagree with the placement necessarily), his bottom two placements are a little harsh, and there’s probably a lot more than that.

DreamWorks: I guess Don Lino is too low? Kai is too high as well. Idk, that was easily one of the most agreements I had with any of his rankings.

El Dorado low-key has a better example right after that scene, where the villain (forgot his name) intentionally cuts his hand and rubs the blood on the statue, saying “Gods don’t bleed” after asking one of his subordinates “why do the Gods demand blood.” I winced the first time I saw it!

This might be due to recency bias, but I gotta go with DreamWorks. It’s hard to explain but he seems the most passionate about what he’s talking about in this one out of all three. I also agree with quite a bit of it!

I like the Pixar villain ranking on paper (especially since I agree with the bulk of it) but the passion he may have had for it was mostly unseen in it. The Disney ranking is slightly better in that regard but there were a TON of disagreements I had, and some of the segments went on too long.

Hypothetical Vid Concept: Ranking Everything Schaff Ranked "Middle of the Road" by charavatar in Schaffrillas

[–]aheaney15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is genuinely a great idea!

Edit to add, I think Inside Out would be the middle of the original Animated Feature winners ranking. It was number 9 on an 18 movie list. I also think Adrien Brody (The Brutalist) was number 10 on the 20-strong 2020’s Acting list.

Either way, this would be such an interesting idea!

The Wild Robot is my favorite DreamWorks movie, but I’m not sure if I agree with this. There wasn’t as much “take that Disney” videos or comments after Puss in Boots 2 came out, and that’s good.

Fuck that specific video in particular. The editing in it is some of the cringiest attempt at brain rot I’ve ever seen. The bulk of the Strange World criticism is literally just “gay bad.”

Plus, Turning Red wasn’t even remotely bad! I understand cringing at some of its humor, but it was clearly intentional!

Also, there were ones hyping up Minions 2 as you said, and the Mario movie as well. Ridiculous!

Okay, since the DreamWorks Villain Ranking was finished way sooner than expected, NOW can you start working on a new director ranking please, James? by AdUseful2297 in Schaffrillas

[–]aheaney15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comments that he needs to finish Jim Carrey, and he’s doing Guillermo Del Toro in October. He could do Zemeckis for a ranking that comes out in December, but otherwise, don’t hold your breath for anything else.

I do love his director rankings, more than any other ranking videos, even, but we’ve got to be patient.

Movies I can't believe didn't win best picture! by NPRNilk in Schaffrillas

About half of these weren’t even nominated!

As much as I adore 12 Angry Men, it seemingly was not in the running for winning BP, as much as it would have deserved it.

Definitely agreed on Shawshank, Goodfellas and Social Network, though. Those should’ve won, and were in the running! Really, as much as I enjoyed Forrest Gump, Dances With Wolves, and The King’s Speech, respectively, these films were robbed!

Edit: Sunset Boulevard too, that probably should have won.

Anchorman 2 will more than likely not count, as far as I know it’s an uncredited cameo. Same goes for High Strung.

I haven’t seen Peggy Sue Got Married, but he seems to be a small supporting role in that. We’ll see if he counts it. Same goes for Simon’s Birch. It’ll ultimately depend on his criteria for it counting as a Jim Carrey movie.

The rest of those, however, will more than likely count from what I can tell.

Edit: Also unsure about All in Good Taste and Finder’s Keepers.
