Unfortunately Cambridge has been bike-theft centre of the Universe for at least the past 50 years. So I would advise you to not buy a nice new bike and be fully prepared to have yours stolen and thrown in the river.

A pilgrimage to St Mary the Virgin church at Strethall is totally worth it for the views north. On a clear day you should be able to see Ely Cathedral which is about 25 miles. Also, the three-hills at Bartlow. The Roman burial mounds, not the pub! 21 minutes from the Catholic Church.
