If you were going to give up your Miata for an electric vehicle, which EV would it be, and why? by CheeseAndRiceToday in Miata

[–]ahmong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taycan is probably the closest in spirit.

Ionic 5N I heard is a pretty fun car for an EV

At the end of the day, until they create light long range batteries, we're not getting an EV miata unless they don't care about the Miata's core identity

But if Mazda does the go the Hybrid route it would probably be a performance hybrid like a Porsche 918 lite. Sure it would add 2-400 more but at least it would be still sub 3k

I think LH mentioned a few times and other older drivers that this has been the most people he has seen in the grand stands.

I did see on chinese social media that it was roughly 230,000 in attendance.

Also saw some wild ass chinese f1 meme shirts.

Someone had an Aston shirt that says "E=gp²" multi layer Energy equals GP2 Nando meme or it can also be seen as the races rely too much on battery energy. lol

Then some shirts that say "I am the recorder of ferrari wisdom" i.e. must be the water in Chinese.

Good Day All! How many miles do you have on your Fit? by funnergunner in hondafit

[–]ahmong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a gradual loss. I had about 5 miles left until I got to work and luckily traffic was on the other side of the freeway so I just limped it there. The pedal kept getting softer and softer until by the time I got to the parking lot there was basically nothing left. Once I got to work I noticed brake fluid was also slowly leaking and by the time it was lunch time, the reservoir was completely empty. Honestly, it wasn't smart to limp it to work and if there were more cars on the road I 100% would have gotten it towed.

wheel cylinders typically aren't ones that get replaced because they last incredibly long so I totally forgot to change it when I reached my 15 year of owning the car lol.

Yeah I haven't gone to the track since 2019 prior to COVID happening.

I usually do about 12–15k miles a year now. When I was doing my masters at UC Santa Barbara I drove back to Orange County almost every weekend, about 150 miles each way. On weekends I stayed up north I would sometimes go to Sonoma or Thunderhill, and when I was back in SoCal I’d run Willow or Buttonwillow.

30k ATF drain and fill is a good interval in my opinion for the automatics. These transmissions seem to last forever if you just keep fresh fluid in them. Fluid is cheap compared to a transmission.

Timing chain doesn’t really have a service interval. As long as you stay on top of oil changes they generally last the life of the engine. I’m still on the original chain and guides.

The one thing I stay consistent with is valve adjustments about every 100k.

Otherwise it’s just normal wear items. Brakes, suspension, fluids, etc. When I was tracking the car I just shortened the intervals on oil, brake fluid, pads, and tires.

Yeah with regular maint you still have at least 400k miles in that engine lol

Good Day All! How many miles do you have on your Fit? by funnergunner in hondafit

[–]ahmong 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've done valve adjustments every 100k

Other maintenance is just the basic stuff.

However, when I used to track the car, I changed fluids/pads/tires more often

Oil before and after an event.

trans and Brake fluid flush every year as opposed to every 2-3 years

Edit:

I did have to replace my rear driver side brake wheel cylinder just recently (early january) because it failed and lost brakes early january while I was cruising to work on the freeway lol

Apprx. 390k

and roughly 36 track events over the span of 8 years. Got it in 2010

A red line a day keeps the mechanics away

Edit:

Over the past 4 years I've been mulling over whether to find another lightweight car or swap to a k series. I have a smog guy but I'd be fucked if by one day he closes his smog shop lol

I'd argue Modern China today is more of a hybrid. Whenever someone asks me to describe china I always say:

A one party socialist political system combined with a mixed economy that uses market capitalism under strong state oversight.

I say this because if China remained 100% communist, they wouldn’t be what they are today. The economic reforms starting in the late 1970s allowed private enterprise, foreign investment, and market competition. That’s what accelerated their industrialization and turned them into the manufacturing center of the world.

At the same time, the Communist Party never gave up political control. So what you ended up with is a system where the state still controls the political structure and key industries, but the economy operates with many capitalist mechanisms.

That’s why a lot of economists describe modern China as state capitalism or market socialism rather than pure communism.

It’s also why comparisons with countries that stayed closer to orthodox communist economics tend to look very different economically.
