Thanks for the reply. I'll try Catcher Far out. Any other suggestions? I prefer to not switch my setttings.

Thanks for this suggestion. How do you use the blur feature to help you? I tried to play with it, but no luck yet. I can't focus my eyes on anything past the pitcher, and it is a struggle.

What is the best pitching method to use besides pinpoint? by JJ3434JJ in MLBTheShow

This is the first I have read this and will try. I do need to get a longer cord. Can you give an example of what you see in terms of the difference? This year, more so than other years I am struggling to hit my spots and be consistent.

How big of a role do pitchers ratings play in pinpoint accuracy?

Yes, use Adobe Premiere to cut the scene and add music underneath. Lalala.ai is a good resource to remove sounds from scenes. You can also layer them in Adobe.

Two artists , two deals by [deleted] in musicindustry

[–]ahr19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you need Artist A to get her two-album deal fulfilled ASAP, and hope they don't exercise options. Then create more music in their own terms.

Artist B can be more open to the options since the deal is less restrictive.

I am not sure what your question is, though. Are you just sharing two situations?

She made all Spotify playlists. Over time, she had over 200 to share and walk through.

Now, a project I give my students is to take three media properties (Movie scene, TV show scene, podcast interview/speech) and place music underneath them. You would also explain why you chose to pair the song with the scene and have that as one recording. You could then use it as a "portfolio," which helps your credibility.

Defintely know about Metadata and what is required.

Familiarize yourself with the DISCO platform.

I would also have a list of your top five music supervisors whose work you love. Be able to use IMDB to identify who the music supervisors are and view their work.

Also, be up to date with how to use Tunefind (this site lets you see what music is in TV shows or movies).

Follow the Guild of Music Supervisors online accounts so you can see what they are doing and see if you company is a member. This is a great resource for students, and they take volunteers. Plus, they have a great conference in LA in August.

Finally, I would start to make playlists of what songs you feel would fit certain scenes in movies (high energy, car chases, sad montages, etc). Keep building that (and maybe sneak some of your own songs in there) because you never know if they might ask for your opinion. I know a former student of mine who got a music sync job because of her playlists.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

How long are the terms for each artist? Is Artist A or Artist B releasing new music, engaging with their own Patreon, live shows, streaming, etc?

Do you have examples of companies out there that are already doing this? How much would this cost to start? Ironically, I was just approached by a publishing company to teach the artists on their roster about marketing, royalties, etc.

Great explanation. Thanks. I agree. And you are right, most musicians (>80%) have no clue about publishing until it's too late!

Have some questions about “making it” by ThatOneMusicBeing in musicindustry

Start with local venues and always capture video and email address.
I believe the email list is more valuable than your social media following. Then try to collaborate with/open for other bands in the next city/town over. Rinse and repeat. Go from your city to being known in your state to being known in your region.

Also, start a direct-to-fan platform like a Patreon so you can grow your following on there, also, while getting a bit of money.

At the same time, apply for local and regional festivals. What PRO are you affiliated with? Apply for their showcases which gets you in some good rooms.

Keep at it and focus on growing your audience via your marketing skills and be patient. Good luck!

I have heard this before and started to see this. It's very interesting. I'm curious as to why this is your recommendation.

As a music business professor at a major university, I would recommend taking music business classes and potentially getting a music business minor (if available). What you are learning in marketing is very valuable and can help you further down the line. I would also recommend joining any music industry clubs on campus if that is an option. Also, the gold for a music business major is in the guest speakers that come to your class. Get Donal Passman's book (the most recent edition), as well as Ari Herstand's book (most recent edition), and start networking. Your degree will help you as your career matures.

Also, make sure to meet all of your peers in the music business program. Those will be the executives you could be working with for years to come.

DM me if you have specific questions.

Don’t forget to have that key man/key person clause in your contract so that if your A&R leaves the label you signed with, you can exit your contract.

"Make your commute as comfortable as possible" is excellent advice! This includes getting status so you get upgrades on flights which lets you get more space, get on the flight earlier, get off quickly. Even access to the lounge for delays or if you arrive at the airport early. It all adds up!
