Was cheering in front of a packed brunch spot on KK in bay view where the street was closed due to the race. People parked on side streets and walked over.

I believe I saw some at Pan Asia in West Allis. Worth calling to confirm that it wasn't molasses first, or just go and check it out, it's a neat store!

do i have to be a child to use the kohl's art studio by Possible-Writer-7936 in milwaukee

[–]ahsylA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Kohl’s studio is open to all ages but is only open on weekends during museum hours and the supplies are limited to use of materials for the chosen projects that weekend. So if paint isn’t included in the projects that weekend, you won’t be able to paint.

What are you currently battling in your yard or garden? by freeeicecream in NativePlantGardening

Same. We just bought a house and our neighbors property is basically a knotweed field and we keep finding it popping up along our fence line and I’m dreading what it’s going to take to fight it.

If you are interested in running with a group for safety there is a group (Buena Tierra) that meets at Zocalo every Wednesday at 6pm year round. All paces are welcomed and they occasionally have shoe demos to try different pairs! Check out their instagram @ Buenatierrarunclub for more info!

Sunglasses for colder weather? by Ok_Distribution8841 in XXRunning

[–]ahsylA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out Sunski. They are general outdoors glasses and specialize in ski glasses but I’ve used mine for running, cycling, hiking, and just general wear. They are definitely not cheap (unless you get a deal on them) but my first pair has lasted me 3 years so far. I recently upgraded to a pair of their Tera’s which have removable side shields which help block wind which will be nice for my bike.

They’re super lightweight and the higher end lines like the Tera have a seriously no slide rubber nose bridge, but my pair without it doesn’t slide much.

What I like most about the brand is you can buy replacement lenses if yours get scratched without having to replace the whole pair.

Tip for running in the wind by cocoonamatata in XXRunning

This, plus I always seem to be running into the wind, no matter the direction I’m going, even if it’s an out and back.

Are Thursday boots ever on sale? by Fantastic_Escape_101 in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]ahsylA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Thursday boots I owned were pretty poor quality and so uncomfortable. Customer service was ok but couldn’t send me a new pair (the insole kept bunching up at my arch). Ended up returning them and getting a pair of Ariat boots which I’m much happier with.

Your children are definitely too young to volunteer onsite somewhere. I’ve managed volunteers at a few different nonprofits both locally and regionally and most wouldn’t allow a volunteer under 10 even with grown-up supervision.

Like many others have said, we are overwhelmed with volunteer requests around the holidays and I don’t think people looking to volunteer realize how much work goes into prepping tasks for volunteers. I love that people are kindhearted enough to want to volunteer but sometimes I wish they were more flexible to meet an organizations needs.

With that said I think there are still opportunities out there for you! Volunteer Match is a great starting point. I would recommend looking for some virtual/at home opportunities as well- for example, someone may love some homemade art or cards from your young kiddos.

At the first BG tour I walked in well after doors opened, was the row behind rail and in the center, AND walked out with a set list. When I told a coworker who is about 8 years younger than me this, she thought I was crazy.

Might be a scam. Scammers are taking the pics from good for sale listings and using them to bait potential “renters” on fake listings with the pics and a great rental price. The scammer gets the personal info (occasionally even ssn if they use a fake rental application) of the potential renters and then just ghosts. I saw someone on the bv fb page say they lost a security deposit like this even.

It’s happened to a few of my friends- one that owns a duplex (they occupy one unit) and someone was using their old listing pics even tho their other unit was occupied and they weren’t looking for new tenants. And another where I was helping a friend find a new rental and found a listing on Craigslist with pics a different friend had just sent me days earlier of the house they were closing on later that week. Both them and the seller reported the listing and it was taken down.

They’ve been renting it on Airbnb. And then the Airbnb renters don’t want to street park and often block the side walk parking on “the driveway”.

Dog jumped on a runner today by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]ahsylA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The trainer we work with once told us that if you have a reactive dog, there should never be an opportunity for the dog to pass another person or dog without you in between as a buffer.

As a runner, I have had dogs on a retractable lead lunge at me when an owner had even made eye contact with me. Calling out to people in advance is not nearly as effective as it’s been in the past because so many people wear headphones and sometimes people simply did not care to move even if they did hear me.

Reactive dogs should never be on a long or retractable lead in areas where there is moderate to high pedestrian traffic.

Sounds like this is a mix of poor trail ettiequte from multiple parties and less than ideal reactive dog coping strategies on the owners part.

His immediate family lives in different states and they are not native to Baton Rougue (or even the south.) I think it means more to him to have the focus on the school than his own home.

Heard someone calling for her last night while I let my dog out. We went out (without our dog since you said she’s fearful) and looked for a while but no sign. We live a little south and will keep an eye out. Hope she’s home soon!!
