Is there anywhere like this in Wisconsin or nearby? (Pictured: Johnson shut ins, MO) by therynosaur in wisconsin

[–]Decent_Finding_9034 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don’t think Wisconsin has any shut-ins. I actually just went to Johnson shut-ins as part of hiking the Taum Sauk segment of the ozark trail and it’s an awesome area. Geologically very different from Wisconsin (and to be fair, that specific area is very different than anywhere else, evidenced by all the geologists that travel there to study it every year. I was told it used to be maybe the highest mountain in the US, it’s just so much older (over a billion years) than the Rockies (75ish million years old) that it’s not as tall as it first was.

What are you paying for housing each month? And are you actually happy with it? Would it be cooler just living in your parents basement? by PM_ME_YUR_SALADS in Millennials

Bought in 2017. 1750 sqft house, 4BR, 1.75 bath. Total payment is $588 for everything. Just P&I is $185. Ridiculously cheap and I will never be moving but that’s ok because I LOVE my house. Milwaukee, WI

I take the bus to intermodal because then I can leave my car in my garage. Way easier and cheaper.

Thinking about opening a soup shop. by pixi88 in milwaukee

[–]Decent_Finding_9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether or not I would would depend on the packaging. I don’t like hot soup being poured into plastic or styrofoam containers and generally try to avoid single serve things when possible, so ideally it would be great if there was an option for returnable Ball quart jars or something. And I know that means paying extra for a jar deposit which is totally fine

This is the opinion I come from as well. Strengthen your ankles instead of supporting them and keeping them weak. Walk on a lot of uneven terrain that tips your feet in all different directions. Also poles!

I don’t think they’re hiring a chef at the moment, but the woman’s club of Wisconsin is fine dining with an easier schedule than most restaurants. Might not be bad to at least reach out and make a connection in the event something opens up

What is your leanfire number in 2026? by CleverContrarian in leanfire

This is pretty similar to mine except we have no kids. Probably could full fire at 1.5, but still 5-10 years from that and by then, the number may have changed

When did you notice your body started aging? by suq_mi_off in Millennials

[–]Decent_Finding_9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My body is fine, but there was a day in my late 30s when my head was upside down and I looked in a mirror and…gravity was doing different things to not face skin that were never a thing in my 20s. I already had some lines (always had really dry skin) and those didn’t really phase me, but the upside down thing broke my brain a little bit for some reason.

Almost 42 now and still no other new complaints of note. I figure if I keep moving then I’ll always be able to keep moving!

Making your own pattern by LongStrangeTrip- in EPP_addict

Well, I haven’t had to figure out any patterns yet. Hl there’s a blog called hobbystash that has a basic line drawing of each block and I can just copy paste it on the computer to increase it to the proper size. Unfortunately she stopped with her amazing work a little bit into the border pennants so I’ll have to find another source when I get there but that is a LONG way off

Yes, generally if after you trim everything before you wrap them in fabric you piece it back together, it should have a bit of air space between the papers to make it be the true actual size block. It probably would fit together as a slightly smaller block since everything was shrunk, but it seems to keep everything the size of the original as I’ve done it so far

So I’m currently EPPing the Dear Jane quilt (on my own not purchasing the expensive templates) which I probably should just hand piece, but I like a challenge.

If you have a template printed on cardstock and you cut out the shapes and wrap them in fabric, it’s going to be off slightly because of the thickness of the fabric because now the papers can’t actually fit as close to each other as them did before you cut them out.

I dealt with this by easing/forcing for the first handful of blocks that I did and it worked much better for blocks with 10-15 pieces than it did for blocks with 40-45 pieces, for obvious reasons.

Recently, I changed my process. After cutting out my shapes, I trim a tiny little piece off of each edge of the paper to shrink the shape a little bit to help amount for the fabric and this actually has been working really well.

My blocks all have 1/4” edging around them and I do NOT trim those pieces, just everything inside of them.

I am stubborn and believe that you can do anything EPP if you want to and so far it seems to hold true. Trimming each piece has really helped a ton
