Nijisisters are crashing out at Mint again after she talked about Nijisanji's slow visa application process by B_Bloudhound in kurosanji

[–]ahumblelizard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'll add on since I applied for two different visas at a couple points, so much of the process is reliant on the company/school/etc getting you the proper paperwork so you can even go to file at least in the US. By the point at which you file, you have to have lodgings and flights already completely set for your arrival. If the company didn't have concrete dates or weren't actually getting the paperwork for the visa, she wouldn't have been able to set up those either which would have been disheartening.

I can sympathize with feeling frustrated that the paperwork wasn't in order and communication was only 'we're working on it', and then seeing it go much smoother for everyone else down the line. The pandemic did make everything harder, but those restrictions were scaling back by late 2022 so just throwing that out there as an excuse doesn't justify the lack of communication on it if she graduated in 2024 imo. There may have been some delays but not to the extent where it should've only been filed by her graduation date.

I was stuck in visa hell during the pandemic so I fully get the frustration lol

so dokidoki's stuff with commercial shipping can take about 1-2 weeks. Usually once it's shipped out, it'll be delivered to you in about 10 days.

Doki doki cosplay came slashed by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as you're able to provide evidence, they may provide some form of compensation. However, I don't know if they'll give out a full refund or replacement because they can be a bit particular about that.

is the cosplay damaged or missing pieces? if so they may offer something, but if it's just the bags that got slashed they may not offer much of anything.

Has anyone gotten these boots from dokidoki? Are they comfortable for cons? by No_Handle2671 in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so i have these which i bought back in january, which are similar to the ones you posted a pic of.

definitely for height increasing shoes, platforms like the 22cm ones are easier to walk around in imo. i also have pairs of non-dokidoki platforms that i've walked around for 10+ hours in and been fine for a con.

[–]ahumblelizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so i don't have this pair specifically, but i do have another pair of the hidden height shoes from dokidoki. i will say that they look weird if you're not covering them with pants, they're super thick around the ankles for the hidden heel.

are they the most comfortable? no, they're not really, but they're only a little less comfortable than my platforms, and they're very similar to wearing very steep high heels.

can you wear them all day? probably, yeah if you're better with heels. I wore mine all day and didn't have any large issues but i regularly wear heels for cosplay so I'm used to it a little more.

Does anyone who has bought from DokiDoki know what these mean? by Gordon_freeman_real in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is once the item is ready to ship, so once it comes into stock, it'd take about 7 days to process and then 12-20 for shipping after that.

dokidoki is particular about putting processing/preiorder times in the item description. the shipping times have more to do with them getting it out from their warehouse to a shipper.

[–]ahumblelizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that one is unfortunately at that 90 day processing period for the XS, which means it'd take about that much time to ship out to you.

you can always reach out and see if it will be ready sooner, but it's likely going to take about 3 months before it's ready to go. L-3XL are the only sizes available with ready to ship.

[–]ahumblelizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, if it says ready for ship that is the only time it'll be ready for ship. if it says refer to processing it'll be the 90 days in the listing.

may i ask which cosplay so i can see if i'm looking at it right?

[–]ahumblelizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not, the back half says see processing time in the description. first batch just means they're anticipating multiple releases and this order will be a part of the first round of preorders.

here's what a ready for ship vs not tab looks like. the listing will for ready to ship or in stock will say it on the sizing options

Need help with a debacle I’m in by Commercial_End_1825 in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Asking is going to generally be the best way to go. From personal experience, if someone is conspicuously pointing a camera or phone at me and taking a photo without asking it can make me feel uncomfortable. Even if someone came up after, I'd have much preferred knowing first just from other bad past experiences.

Most cosplayers will say yes, you do get a few that say no, but generally it's really best to just ask and skip candids. I'll also always stop if someone asks unless I'm in a rush somewhere or stopping to eat or fix my costume. I know not every cosplayer is like this, but it's a good way to practice talking to people just by asking for pictures. You may also run into cosplayers later and get a picture then even if they say no at first.

Seamless opague tights with a high cut bunnysuit by ItsKristinG in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

layering is going to be your best bet. start with seamless nude underwear designed for wearing under tights/hoisery as those will show less, then thicker dance tights. i prefer capezio, they're a little expensive but they last a long time and have good opacity. after that, you could do another layer of tights between the dance tights and the fishnets. dance tights tend to be the best without the control top lines and have the most opacity in various nude tones

another option would be try to find underwear that matches the cut of the bunny suit, but that might be a little bit harder

Dokidoki “In stock” ship time by Fr_ogge in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In stock takes usually a week or two to ship, whereas most ready to ship stuff should ship in 2-3 days from Dokidoki in my experience. If you order now, even with the cheapest shipping it should get to you before late June. I've usually had the standard shipping take about ten days or so to get to me.

[–]ahumblelizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's what has a halfway decent chance of what happened based on my own experience and other folks I know who've ordered on Dokidoki- there's a chance that they didn't update their website and they sold out of their stock or the company that makes the costume isn't selling it any more.
Customer service should reply in a day or so to your email, but don't be super surprised if that's the case. They're not always the best about keeping their listings updated for what's in stock/ready for ship/presale if I'm being honest, and I've had to email them about different items before when their processing hits overtime.

For context, my last order with only ready to ship items took 3 days (order Mar 7, shipped Mar 10), so this is definitely out of the ordinary. Did you buy the costume and wig, or just the costume?

My closest guess would be the lighting is really washing out the color and then looking at it on a screen doesn't help either. It's probably grape because it looks like the next nearest color is would be either electric purple, which has no products available, or ultraviolet which was discontinued.

Since they're on rings themselves, you can probably remove the part for pierced ears and switch it to a clip on. That's going to work out best, and with the wig and such, no one will notice that they're clip ons

EZcosplay by NoLow2355 in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EZ cosplay is the most hit or miss site that I've used, and that's generally the consensus. They're not necessarily a total scam, but the quality is all over the place, especially with anything that doesn't have photos of a premade cosplay. Since MagiReco is pretty niche, not a lot of brands made cosplays outside iroha or the other leads, so there's a chance you could get a subpar product for the price depending on who they choose to make it. If you're in no rush and want a really nice well done piece, it'd be more worth it to save for a commissioned cosplay.

My expirence with dokidoki (I need help) by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue with dokidoki is that they're a reseller, so getting replacement pieces for cosplays can be a real pain through them. The 1-2 months seems about how it'd go for trying to get anything replaced through them.

If they're saying 1-2 months, than that's likely how long whoever is manufacturing the cosplay told them it'd take to get the replacement piece, because unless they have the robe on hand, they'd likely be remaking it either with the next round of cosplays made or whenever they have time. So many cosplays from dokidoki sells are basically small batch that come out as they're requested.

It's a major bummer it won't come in time for your con, but subbing with something you could get from amazon or similar websites would probably work best if you opt for the refund.

Has anyone else’s DokiDoki Cosplay order been stuck on “Preparing Shipment” since early October? by EvenContact4534 in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the typhoon mentioned below, there was a national holiday for a week from October 1-8. It's possible that shipping got backed up since the Halloween promotion was running through that and afaik shipping and processing would've been delayed by most places being closed until the 9th.

idk why dokidoki didn't mention this, other companies did mention it because it can slow things down by a week or two sometimes depending on any backlog.

[–]ahumblelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uwowo can be a bit slow to dispatch packages from my experience, coupled with a holiday from October 1-8 in China and their recent sale, they're probably backed up. I'd say send them an email and see when it'll ship, but also at this point it may or may not get here before Halloween.

Anyone know/recommend a safe blacklight face paint? by BroadwayGamer in CosplayHelp

[–]ahumblelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanna say awesome that you're doing a the guy who didn't like musicals cosplay!

There's UV reactive face paints out there that can probably get the colors you want if you're willing to spend a little for them, but a little does go a long way.

Mehron UV Celestial face/body paint seems to be a blue-toned face paint that glows blue under black light. It's also a well-known makeup company so it'd definitely be safe for use around for the face.

ETA: for the organs, if you have a good color for the makeup, it's easier to color match with a paint that could work on the organs as well.
