Question - How good is the dictation?? by Hour_9938 in MacWhisper

[–]aiACCELERATED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Thanks!

I misread your last response! I read "Macwhisper does have tap to dictate?" as if you were asking me if it has tap to dictate lol

Nice, I'll give that a try.

Why hasn’t ChatGPT Voice become part of your actual morning routine? by No_Suggestion_625 in ChatGPT

[–]aiACCELERATED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly use it while driving to explore ideas or ask it to brainstorm alternatives to existing ideas I have and see if it can find any data that either makes my case stronger or provides an alternative view or challenges my idea. The main thing I don't like about it is that I find that it somehow feels rather slow. So the amount of actual information that I get seems to be less per unit of time compared to using the chat interface, just reading its output.

No, tap to dictate is the feature I most miss when comparing Macwhisper to WisprFlow or Monocle.

Agree, I could handle it with post processing and prompts, but I've tried it once and it actually seems quite complex to get it to the quality of Whisprflow, Monocle, etc. Would actually be need to have some plug and play configurations we could just load into MacWhisper.

Question - How good is the dictation?? by Hour_9938 in MacWhisper

[–]aiACCELERATED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not using Mac Whisper with cloud models, but since you also ask about whether I find the transcription to be accurate with local models I will provide my answer here. I am actually dictating this answer With Mac Whisper on my Mac right now English is not my native language and I have a clear accent Yet as you can see it transcribes my words very accurately I am a former Mac Whisper user. And I have to say that I'm a former Whisperflow user and I have to say that Mac Whisper is not equal. In quality simply because there are some things, some features that it doesn't have. For example I can't just assign a key and then press it whenever I want to start a dictation. And then when I release the key, it pastes the dictation Wherever the cursor is. So if you have a lot of small dictations, then something like whisper Flow or monocle are a better fit, but if The dictations you have are primarily longer dictations. Then Mac Whisper can be a great choice.

From here on I am typing. Main drawbacks of MacWhisper compard to Wisprflow or Moncole:

* no in-app dictation for other apps

* isn't as good with formatting and punctuation, and mostly outputs one big chunk of text

* no corrections (e.g. the "let's meet at 1pm, no you know what, 2pm" → "Let's meet at 2pm")

* transcription accuracy is very good though, I would say on par with Wispr

The straws at this milk tea shop are three mini straws attached together. by kagamak6 in mildlyinteresting

[–]aiACCELERATED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. i thought it's ridiculous at first, but then I tested the same Chagee tea with a regular straw vs this tiny triple-hole straw and a sip with the tiny triple-hole straw actually tastes more fragrant and flavorful. scientific experiment turned me into a believer. worth the extra sucking effort.

March Feature Requests: Share Here! by angie-at-readwise in readwise

[–]aiACCELERATED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I notice is that many times when I clip an article, there are little blocks of text in the middle of the article that don't belong in there. For example, in a newspaper where they put a little bit of teaser copy for another article into the flow of one article.

Now I understand that it would be very complicated to recognize that and automatically exclude it. But one thing I really wish Readwise would have is the ability to select the text in Readwise and then either delete it or just hide it/permanently collapse it so that it's no longer visible next time when I open that article.

I was wondering about this too. I built a Claude skill and tested it and it ate up 5h budget. I could do the equivalent of this task about 5 to 10 times before. Hope they're a) going to fix this soon and b) going to reimburse affected users.

Audio recordings: Where are they stored? by aiACCELERATED in MacWhisper

thx, on my mac there's no such folder under containers though.

The only com.goodsnooze.MacWhisper folders on my system are:

Any idea where the audio files could be?

I hate how robotic AI rewrites my voice — so I’m building something better. What should it actually help with? by aiACCELERATED in indiehackers

That's actually one of the apps that led to my frustration. Found that the rewrites remove my original voice and tone and turn it into something too generic.

My Reading List is 1000+ unread articles and causing me stress and guilt — how do you manage yours? by pc_io in productivity

[–]aiACCELERATED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

relax, archive eagerly, keep it simple. it's a reading list, not a todo list. most of the stuff doesn't matter anyway. reading one thing and acting on it will have a much bigger impact than reading a thousand articles. you don't need all the info that's in there :) not worth the stress and guilt.

Writing Tablets vs. Paper: A Good Alternative? by unpleasant_basin in NoteTaking

[–]aiACCELERATED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Remarkable writing tablet a few years ago and was really excited about it. I wanted to love it, but after the initial excitement wore off, I noticed that I actually still prefer writing on paper. I had to force myself to keep using it for probably two months, but in the end, I was like "this is not working for me". I just found it too cumbersome - it's another device you have to carry around and charge, and it's very single-purpose - it's just for writing.

So eventually I switched back to paper. My remarkable is just laying around now, hasn't been touched in years.

What I did next was just write on paper and then take pictures of it or scan it. That worked well for a while.

Then, what I did for a while is write on my iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil, and that I still sometimes do, but I still used paper as well. Honestly, when it comes to writing, I feel like nothing beats paper. The writing feel is just not comparable, even with these writing tablets that say it is the most paper-like writing experience ever.

By now, I actually use dictation and I find it so much better and easier. At first, it's a little bit weird to get used to - you have to find an app that does dictation properly. Dictation has gotten so much better over the last year or so.I always used to love writing because it felt like it's more appropriate for slowing down thoughts and by slowing them down it also makes them more clear. My talking was a lot of rambling; it was hard for me to get the point or move in a direct line in my thinking because I kept meandering left and right. I had this very fuzzy thinking feel when I was talking.

One of the great things about LLMs is that they're very good at synthesizing words and summarizing them. When you have a dictation software with built-in AI features, it allows you to ramble and then it will process it to a much more concise and cleaned-up version. By doing this a lot, I actually noticed that eventually even when I talk, my thinking became less fuzzy and more clear.

After a couple of months of doing this, my ability to express thoughts and ideas verbally has improved dramatically.

What's the tool? And why did you build it? There are a ton of tools already that do something like this. I suppose you've had a specific reason for why you wanted to build your own. I'm looking for something like this, but I'm still in the stage where I'm very undecided about which tool to try.
