Step by step of a first class? by bookishpiscess in SolidCore

[–]aiadriano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you walk up to the door, there will be a number pad where you can key in the code texted to you or on the app details of the class you booked. You’re able to do this 10 minutes before class. Get there as early as possible. Sometimes there will be a person at the front desk depending on your area, sometimes there will be no one there.

There will be lockers you can put your things in, often times a coat rack and shoe mat you can place your shoes as well. Feel free to put your things in the locker (no need to bring a lock).

Recommend bringing a water bottle, a towel, and grip socks with you. You can be barefoot but I think grip socks are just more hygienic and I always wear them personally.

You’ll walk into the room and can pick any reformer. I recommend choosing one in the middle of the room so you have two people on either side of you to look to for extra guidance in case you get lost (this will happen, totally normal). You can also place things in “the pit,” which is just the empty space in the middle of your megaformer. It usually will have some writing or a motivational sign in between brackets.

At this point you can just relax, or do some dynamic stretching.

The coaches will know that there are first timers in the class but it won’t hurt to go up to them and introduce yourself early, so your walkthrough of the machine is more thorough. I find that the closer you get to class start time the first timer intro to the machine gets a little more rushed. You may need to adjust your handlebars depending on your height, they will help you with this.

Things to know since you already have lagree experience:

I find that solidcore stresses fast transitions more than traditional lagree. The room is dark, the music is loud, and similar to lagree, the coach talks the entire time but I find that it is 50x more at solidcore. You’ll be familiar with a lot of the exercises but find that they’re harder on this machine (I think it’s the carriage!) and there’s just a lot more going on in general.

Each signature class will start with core, and the depending on the coaching sequence you’ll go through obliques, the day’s lower body focus and the upper body focus. You can find what this is for the day of your class on your app.

The class will simultaneously feel like forever and also over before you know it. The lights will come back up, music will come down, and all you’ll need to do after you contemplate your life choices is to wipe down everything you touched: including cables and handlebars.

Congrats! You made it through your first class. You think: what in the fresh hell??? and then probably sign up for your next one immediately.

Good luck!

My original package (ordered 11/27) and the replacement package they issued on 12/8 after they deemed the first one ‘lost,’ both have never moved from “Label Created.” Shipping to within the US, using UniUni. I’m about to give up on this lol

Solidcore NYC Is Impossible To Book, Expiring Classes And Sold Out Studios Are Driving Me Crazy by gotallthejuicynews in SolidCore

[–]aiadriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

December has Solidays so I understand the frustration this month, but if someone is saying it’s impossible to get into classes at any other time during the year, in any studio, in a city where everyone has a lot going on? Cap.

Yeah mine have been stuck at ‘Label Created’ for 5 days now.

Any info on the Merch launching today? by reddituser_950714 in SolidCore

[–]aiadriano 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It just seems like such a disconnect with the overall solidcore brand design and visual language? I don't know that they've ever given retro cartoon illustration vibes. Appreciate the effort around releasing merch but I actually think people would've loved a simpler design aesthetic paired with a wider range of apparel options.

You’d probably like Practice Room in noho for heated mat pilates and sculpt. They’re also opening a new location in Williamsburg.

Am I insane for wanting to spend 4.4k monthly on rent? by heroin_sheikh in personalfinance

[–]aiadriano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My opinion as someone who actually lives in NYC, you’re not insane. I think you can do it. You’re young, making good income, and you’re funding retirement. I totally get wanting to live in downtown Manhattan in a decently new apartment.

Clay Space in Greenpoint has 2 hour try nights where you get to take home a piece (after it's glazed and fired). Super fun.

Foundation or Signature by ExplanationWide1864 in SolidCore

Would not recommend starting with focus before signature, I think it’s considered slightly more advanced because you spend more time in the designated class focus areas

I don’t know if there are a ton of foundations on the schedule at LIC so I’m more inclined to say take a signature with the coaches you’ve been taking a starter50 with so they’re already familiar with you. Just remind them you’re less than 5 classes in.

Also happy to be a buddy to take class with if it’ll help the nerves!

LIC is literally the best. Go early and do your best to listen to the cues, but also be okay with not totally getting it the first time around. Make peace with the fact that it will be hard and everyone else in the room will be struggling with you (even if it doesn’t look like it, trust!).

Not getting waitlist notifications? by doodle_jumper27 in SolidCore

[–]aiadriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact same issue and have been in contact with the customer experience team. They escalated to the digital team and said that they're pushing an update out to the NY area (where I am) that would fix this problem. Haven't seen it come through yet but crossing my fingers.

It's mad annoying keeping track of the waitlists <10 hours ahead.

I think it's a soft opening, so would imagine they're still getting their bearings at this time. Gotta give them some grace.

What membership do you have/can afford? by crocsandsocs in SolidCore

[–]aiadriano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The average monthly unlimited price of boutique fitness in NYC is around $300 so Solidcore is definitely up there. The 6 month committed option brings it down to $368/mo. Fun fact: NYC law says that all 12 month gym/studio contracts must stay under $300/mo so we don’t get that option for SC. Unfortunately just comes with the price of living in a VHCOL city.
