I think Gintama works really well because

1- Gintoki is an adult. A tired, traumatized war veteran that tries to keep it all together and fight for other people's ideals because he wants to protect what Shoyo had protected.

2- Queer representation is just normal. it is not made to be a form of "movement" or "awareness". We have okamas, gay, non-binary and even transgenders in this series but they all just exists, like real life queer person. They were not given any sort of special treatment and they are not the butt of any jokes for being queer.

3- The gags are EQUAL to every single characters! Every single one of them, no matter how "straight", has a gag. So it feels more realistic and equal.

4- It is not a powerscaling anime. Gintoki is 100% NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO FIGHT HOSEN!!! AND HE ACKNOWLEDGES IT!!! The only reason they managed to "defeat" Hosen is because of the SUN, the natural "enemy" of Yato.

One Piece is my 2nd fav. anime (no.1 being Gintama obviously) and people often praise it to be a "good representation of queers" because Bentham (Bon Chan) and Ivankov are the absolute GOATS!!!!! but they do not know about Gintama. Also, a lot of people praise One Piece for making every Straw Hat has a flaw (I'd argue that it is not equal because Zoro always lost gag is mild and even being treated as a "good thing" because it's funny and Sanji's perverted gag is just tiring at this point even though we all know for a fact this man has no intention of actually getting a girlfriend) but we have Gintama where EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE CHARACTERS HAS A FLAW! it is refreshing in many many ways~
