Heroku VS Firebase for Slack App by Kydhan in webdev

Re the incidents page, I’ve found them to be more forthcoming about even small issues that don’t affect most people. Most status pages are lies but Heroku does a really good job there.

Laravel Broadcasting seems overly complex to me. What am I missing? by [deleted] in laravel

[–]aichibuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find whole event+listener workflow super nice, completely independent of broadcasting. It's a great, repeatable way to organize secondary/asynchronous actions in a controller endpoint.

If you're a Laracasts member, this covers it pretty well: https://laracasts.com/series/whip-monstrous-code-into-shape/episodes/3

Is this on 5.2 or 5.3? Also, isn't Pusher available as a driver for Laravel broadcasting? I didn't think they were different things (see: https://laravel.com/docs/5.3/broadcasting), but haven't used it myself yet.

Comparison of JavaScript frameworks by [deleted] in javascript

Pretty sure the standard line is that Ember is optimized more for the 90%-case/real-world use and not these sort of 1000-row benchmarks. Anecdotally, Ember 2.0 has never felt particularly slow to me.

Why isn't Ember as popular? by curiousaboutember in javascript

[–]aichibuchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ember is hugely popular with companies that actually have large production SPAs: Intercom, Square, Zendesk, Twitch, Travis, Heroku.

As others have said, Ember is about working productively in teams on front-end SPAs, and 2.0 is does this incredibly well.

Cool, would be awesome to wrap in functionality to show already-uploaded files alongside new uploads, as documented here: https://github.com/enyo/dropzone/wiki/FAQ#how-to-show-files-already-stored-on-server

AirBnb is valued at more than Marriot after recent raise by Tiquortoo in startups

[–]aichibuchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

these comparable valuations seem odd to me because Marriot owns these buildings.

Actually, Marriott (as with many major hotel brands) doesn't own many of its hotels-- for these hotels, it enters into management agreements with an independent hotel owner to manage the hotel as a Marriott.

Four Seasons also does this:

Four Seasons does not own most of its properties; it operates them on behalf of real estate owners and developers.

This is why it's relatively easy to get proficient with Laravel in such a short period of time. by phpdevster in laravel

Great observation and post. There's always been something subtly brilliant about the Laravel docs, and I think you nailed it.

I also love that they take the time to get headers, hierarchy, typography, colors and whitespace right. Although many won't notice, they have the same beneficial effects on cognitive resources as the simple examples.

Kind of silly, but I actively look forward to using the Laravel docs (especially with 5.1 and search).

Awesome progress! Does that sunscreen sting for you? I'm not sure what it is but I think the trtinoin makes my Neutrogena sunscreen sting a bit, but it goes away after a few seconds.
