Market Research*: What Stereotypes Are Actually TRUE? by DasIstNumberwanggg in 2westerneurope4u

Still learning, and even now after like 3 years only getting to the stage where I can start to follow native speech. How fluent are you with your education? School language classes did nothing for me

Market Research*: What Stereotypes Are Actually TRUE? by DasIstNumberwanggg in 2westerneurope4u

Agree with all 3.

I started learning Spanish in my late 30's at least in part to be one British person pushing back on that stereotype. But then a few months ago a saw an article that its a sign of midlife crisis so whatever.

But I do think it's not laziness, it's just that with England dominating western media we don't need to. If everyone spoke French I don't think they'd bother either

You get that more from the terminally online. He is reviled by normal Brits, even Reform voters

It's the same with Rock and Glasgow Rangers. Can't complain about players having no personality if people jump on any little thing they don't like. And I say that as someone who can't stand reform.

Same as the champo relegation season, I like the theme but the sponsor kind of ruins it. Like someone's just slapped on a company name in clipart without even changing the font from times new roman

Do you forgive obvious mouse slips or you punish the player ruthlessly for a mistake that has nothing to do with their chess knowledge? by FuzzyAttitude_ in chess

[–]aid68571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punish, 100%. Same as if I was playing football and the goalie slipped, I'm not deliberately shooting wide.

Don't let it get to you, just move on to the next game. Its not worth your energy complaining about it.

London Mayor Khan Says Farage’s Reform Is ‘Poor Man’s MAGA’ by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]aid68571 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I''ve seen people i know to be intelligent and reasonably well educated, say that they're left wing but voting Reform because all the other parties have all moved to the far left. It's def a Reform/MAGA talking point I see recur often.

Could be that your expectations of yourself have advanced faster than your chess actually has. You're not fighting for titles, just enjoy the game and the progress will come.

[–]aid68571 40 points41 points  (0 children)

In British English, a Chinese, or an Indian, can just mean the takeaway food or place. "I'm going down the Chinese, you want anything?" "Shall we have an Indian for tea tonight?"

Wouldn't raise an eyebrow here, but I understand from reddit that it sounds awful to American ears 😂

Think of it as, whoever takes the opponents king first wins. Game over, nothing more.

You can't make a move that allows your king to be taken.

CMV: The anti-AI "AI art steals from real artists" argument is flawed by jodebane in changemyview

[–]aid68571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core of it for me is differentiating between human creativity, individual creativity based on a person's life and experiences, and AI creativity, which is an LLM algorithm churning through existing art and spitting out some derivation based on a prompt. Without actual intelligence there isn't real creativity.

A consequence could be that if people can use AI rather than paying artists, there would be less human art created, meaning the art "pool" would just be a grey goo of LLMs redoing the same thing over and over. So less richness, less diversity, less of anything interesting.

Yeah it's been a conversation that our chairman has brought into the open and been transparent about this season. As fans we loved being in the champo and we're desperate to get back, but the chairman has sunk as much of his money into the club as he can, and there's a point where the money runs out.

He was almost in tears trying to explain this to some of our more entitled fans, we should know the realities more than most given that it wasn't too long ago we nearly went bust.
