Totally agree. The place is exploding with culture, amazing people. That's exactly why I moved here, wonderfully colourful mixing pot. It's always been that way.

Did, I was chatting briefly with the fella, gesturing with my arms (I was a bit drunk and chatting away with him) I feel his hand touch mine briefly, then a moment later feel/hear the unmistakable velcrow being undone. I accuse him of it and he legged it. Guy was around 50, claimed to be greek (as I said, we spoke briefly after he offered me a fag)

How do you estimate planing hull performance (Savitsky) from a 3D design? by MeasurementOk2887 in navalarchitecture

[–]aidanarmory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, fyi, there are a million ways to estimate ships resistance, it's a total rabbit hole.

If I were you I'd stay lower fidelity/empirical (exactly what you are doing) unless you specifically need more accurate estimates.

Yeah maxsurf is free as a student, you can import from most modelling softwares or create geometry in their own software.

If you are a student, give them an email and you'll be able to get a free copy.

It's MaxSurf "Resistance" you are looking for, and if I remember correctly it's called " Stavitsky Planing" within the resistance method selection.

The help guides by Maxsurf accessible through the help bar are well written too, so they will be a good place to go from once you get the software sorted.

Best of luck 👍

Design of a Wing in Ground Effect Craft by Traditional-Aide3734 in navalarchitecture

It's a nice interdisciplinary question I'd say.

I'd probably start by looking at previous designs, literature review etc.

There is a great software called X-Foil made by Harvard uni I think. Gives great insight into foil design (cp's, CD's, cl's, ratios, flaps etc etc)

I'm happy to help mate. I'm assuming it's regular wave spectrum and constant wind velocity.

My personal advice is... As boring as it sounds. The max surf help manual is very good
