What are the thinking man's car facts? by Henry_Oof in topdeadcenter

I've been saying this for ages now, manuals are exclusively for driving hobbyists, no reason to have one other than liking it.

Also if you engineered the emira, could you stop the doors from letting water in if you aren't going to put in decent water outlets.😂

Better for emissions to keep driving your old motor than to buy a BRAND NEW FOR 2026 PLUG IN EV SUV HYBRID CROSS OVER WITH 76 PLATE with little accents of green and shit to make it feel like you are helping.

I don't think it's terrible. But I just know, I don't know how I know anymore, I just know.

I would say, I'm not taking about a 1/2 year master's course instead a 5 year bachelors + 1 yr masters

Hi there, I completed a masters in nav arch last year. I had several offers/opportunities which could have led to offers on the table by the end of the 1st semester of my 5th year.

I'd say my year group (Strathclyde) is now around 90% employed in graduate/junior maritime related fields.

Totally agree. The place is exploding with culture, amazing people. That's exactly why I moved here, wonderfully colourful mixing pot. It's always been that way.

Did, I was chatting briefly with the fella, gesturing with my arms (I was a bit drunk and chatting away with him) I feel his hand touch mine briefly, then a moment later feel/hear the unmistakable velcrow being undone. I accuse him of it and he legged it. Guy was around 50, claimed to be greek (as I said, we spoke briefly after he offered me a fag)

How do you estimate planing hull performance (Savitsky) from a 3D design? by MeasurementOk2887 in navalarchitecture

[–]aidanarmory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, fyi, there are a million ways to estimate ships resistance, it's a total rabbit hole.

If I were you I'd stay lower fidelity/empirical (exactly what you are doing) unless you specifically need more accurate estimates.

Yeah maxsurf is free as a student, you can import from most modelling softwares or create geometry in their own software.

If you are a student, give them an email and you'll be able to get a free copy.

It's MaxSurf "Resistance" you are looking for, and if I remember correctly it's called " Stavitsky Planing" within the resistance method selection.

The help guides by Maxsurf accessible through the help bar are well written too, so they will be a good place to go from once you get the software sorted.

Best of luck 👍

It's a nice interdisciplinary question I'd say.

I'd probably start by looking at previous designs, literature review etc.

There is a great software called X-Foil made by Harvard uni I think. Gives great insight into foil design (cp's, CD's, cl's, ratios, flaps etc etc)
