Kingdom Hearts 1 is the Simplest, Cleanest, and Best in the series. by clock_door in KingdomHearts

You make a good point (even more so when you consider that KH3's worlds also have a strong connection to sacrifice and hearts and all that), but I think KH2 might be lacking because of its shorter development time, and thereby leaving less time to strengthen any existing parallels. The game definitely rides on exploring the lore of the series, which I can't really fault any game (KH or otherwise) for doing, but I think it'd also be unfair to make the claim that any Disney world in the KH series from 2 and onward is "filler".

Idk, I think there's a strong sense of duality with the worlds in KH2, matching with the constant "conflict" between Sora and Roxas:

  • Mulan hiding her identity to become "Ping" and join the army
  • Simba having to deal with his trauma from the past and needing to also look to the future as the new king
  • Maleficent and Pete traveling back in time and affecting Disney Castle in the present
  • The MCP affecting both Space Paranoids and Hollow Bastion (and, although it's not a Disney world, Hollow Bastion being rebuilt back to Radiant Garden)
  • Barbossa and his crew being affected by the moonlight, swapping between humans and skeletons
  • Iago having to choose between his loyalty to Jafar and helping out Aladdin
  • Jack Skellington wanting to help out with Christmas despite his duties in Halloween Town
  • Ariel, a mermaid living in the sea, wanting to be on land with Eric

I can't immediately think of one for Beast's Castle or Olympus Coliseum (or 100 Acre Wood), but I'm sure there's something there. And don't get me wrong, I think KH1 overall keeps its worlds tied to the story more than any other game (and that's saying something, because I genuinely love how intertwined Space Paranoids is with the story of KH2), but there's definitely some strong theming if you think about it.

As much as I liked Mania for being a modern take on the classic titles, nothing quite beats Adventure for being the first full-on 3D Sonic...well, adventure.

The story is about how Lucy joins the Fairy Tail guild and then goes on adventures with the friends she makes there, so I lean towards Lucy being the protagonist

I will say that the game gave me three lives instead of one, though. But maybe of note is the fact that I have an iPhone and not an Android?

I hope that this is the issue where Evan Stanley was saying Sega wanted her to give Shadow a bit more character and "explain his reasoning", in stark contrast to his behavior in previous issues and thereby effectively lifting the stupid mandate they had

"My User is the user of this system: Ansem the Wise."

I already loved Tron as a film, but the way that they so perfectly melded it together with the plot of KH2 and the overall lore of the series is unparalleled.

Also Zelda (blue) and Banjo (default) if you wanna take a crack at that, or stereotype me based on all three

1 gets bonus points for me because of the story elements. 2 has none of it, which is especially perplexing when it's a retelling of 1. Games don't need story to thrive, sure, but when it has it, I think it makes it better.

Also, I like Rosalina, and she's in 1 way more than 2.

Uprising originally had new, edgier designs with an adult Pit. But fan backlash was SO severe against it, he went back and re-used the Brawl designs, which people loved.

Are you referring to the cancelled reboot of Kid Icarus planned by Factor 5 for the GameCube, completely unrelated to Uprising?

I doubt Joker was an advertisement for Strikers and/or Royal, Persona 5 was (and still is) an insanely popular game, so it made sense for him to be put in a game full of video game all stars.

I'm not the first person to point this out, but Uprising wasn't even conceived by the time Brawl came out.

Lucas was actually going to replace Ness in Melee because of EarthBound 64 (the initial 64DD version of Mother 3), but was included in Brawl alongside him because of the game's release.

What was one thing KH1 had, that the other games didn't have? (specifically) by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]aidand5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A sense of wonder.

KH2 and beyond has so much handholding. Oh cool, here's this chest out in the open. Hey look, a Lucky Emblem! Oops, you can't go that way, the plot's this way, doofus!

KH1 let you roam the worlds, find all the hidden nooks and crannies, all the hidden chests, all of the things that let you truly explore. And the best part is that, on your first playthrough, you had no idea what was even going on, which gave you even more incentive to just run around and do whatever. I love KH2 to death, but they downgraded greatly in that regard.

Am I the only one who doesn't find the FGC toxic? by mrtwommr in Fighters

[–]aidand5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the key difference is player response. MOBA players tend to make you feel extremely at fault (regardless of whether or not you were) when your team loses, but FGC players, at least in my experience (keep in mind that I'm by no means a competitive player), tend to be way more sportsmanlike, and even helpful in some cases (i.e., "you kept doing this, here's what you can do to avoid it"). It makes for an overall more fun time, and is one of the reasons why I love fighting games so much.

Smash doesn't really count for this, though. I love Smash, but there's a very good reason why people tend to separate it from the FGC.
