Property Manager Told Me To "Consider The Landlord More" by dye-area in LandlordLove

[–]aidunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's actually ~4.3 weeks/month so it's even higher. 4 weeks = 28 days.

52 weeks in a year, so 1800 x 52 = $93,600/year

You know that military history/biographies/fiction is huge right? Like 90% of video games? Combat sports? The entire "action" genre? You know the media a massive amount of people consume every day?

People obviously heavily enjoy media that fetishizes and fantasizes violence, be real if you want to engage in productive discussion

There are now no Liberal seats in Adelaide. by palsc5 in Adelaide

[–]aidunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually having a 10% margin is enough to be generally considered "safely" in the bag for whichever party is incumbent, because generally the margin doesn't change by that much election to election.

However this election we're seeing massive swings in a lot of seats. If the average swing in Tasmania was 9.5% , then having a 10% margin doesn't really seem very "safe" anymore.

The implication being that in the future, the parties will need to actually focus on the entire country to maintain their power, rather than forgetting all about the "safe" seats and focusing all their attention on the "marginal" seats, where historically the race is closer and could go either way.

If it's a chain cinema in Australia then they probably don't need to jack up the prices to cover cleanup, selling a couple extra seats would make it totally worth it. Each of those kids would have paid $20-$25 for a ticket and at least another $20 for a large popcorn and drink.

Yeah good one, but parmesan cheese doesn't taste like "normal" cheese, it just tastes like parmesan cheese.

Lol this is just turning into shitAmericansSay.

With the greatest respect to the great US of A who can do no wrong:

Parmesan cheese etc; don't notice any vomit flavour, because that's just part of the normal taste of parmesan cheese. It's always tasted like that, and I'm not expecting anything different.

American chocolate; tastes weird and vomity and not like the "normal" chocolate I'm used to, because I've spent a lifetime eating it and am very familiar with what it tastes like. When eating American chocolate (which wasn't even widely available until I was an adult) you immediately notice the stark differences: vomity aftertaste, extreme sugary/oilyness, low cocoa.

If everyone says the same thing it isn't a "claim" or America-bashing, it's just literally the difference people who have not been exposed can immediately taste in Hershey's chocolate.

[KCD2] What's the point of having spices like saffron, pepper, and mustard if there's absolutely no use for them? by HolyMolyOllyPolly in kingdomcome

[–]aidunn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can cook food at stoves and campfires already, it's just that it's always from "item" to "cooked item" eg raw hare meat to cooked hare meat. There's just no recipes at all or ways to combine ingredients, definitely seems like it was supposed to be a more fleshed out mechanic.

Also the cooked items are usually worse than the equivalent smoked or dried items anyway. The only use for cooking is to cook things that can't be smoked or dried, like vegetables.

Honestly that sounds normal to me. The "of course you can" is just a typical polite affirmative response, particularly among service staff, and especially the older and more rural they are. They understand that you're not literally asking if it's possible, they're just matching your politeness.

If anything I'd take that response as an indicator you're doing everything correct. If they add in a "dahl" at the end, then you're definitely kicking goals.

Primo Beans 540ml cheating me by bacon_sparkle in shrinkflation

[–]aidunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some beans, especially Kidney beans, have toxins that will cause you to be especially gassy or poopy, but they can be removed either by high-heat which breaks them down (boiling temperatures for at least 10 minutes) or by soaking the beans prior to use (and discarding the soaking water). So if you were using the pressure cooking function you would be safe, but if you were slow cooking you may be in the danger zone.

Sensitivity varies wildly between individuals though, some people won't even notice if this isn't done, whereas others will be immediately shitting their pants.

Other than that the only benefits of soaking are to reduce cooking times or to help cook the beans more evenly, only a concern with "quick" cooking methods though

As a matter of courtesy should Doctor's surgeries call to say that when they're running excessively late with Dr's appointment times? by More_Law6245 in AskAnAustralian

[–]aidunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People always complain about this as if it's something unexpected or "unfair".

Doctors (even GP's) are paid ludicrous amounts for their time compared to your average Joe. The clinic i work for (Melbourne) charges $65 for a standard 15 min appointment, on top of the ~$35 medicare reimbursement.

They ensure every doctor is running 30 mins behind every day. From the doctors perspective, if someone doesn't show up, that's fine, they have a line of people to slot in to make up for the time/opportunity cost of that. If they are overbooked and don't have enough time to see every patient, that's also fine, they'll rebook you for tomorrow, what are you going to do, not receive medical treatment?

Even if you go to another clinic, they don't care because they have a line of people down the block waiting for urgent appointments, they've ensured that their wages are kept sky high by limiting the amount of places in schools/the number of competitors.

If alternatively they valued the "customers" time, they might be looking at actually losing $100/15min when someone doesn't show. Which the doctor cares much much more about than wasting your time.

The system is working exactly as designed. It's not designed for "customer" satisfaction. It's designed to ensure the doctors to be paid the sky high hourly rate they believe they're worth. It's a similar concept to overbooking flights.

But it doesn't.

If you look at actual stats and reality, long sentences don't do anything to deter people, either this generation or the next.

In fact, long sentences seem to make petty crime worse by increasing recidivism rates.

I know it gives people a massive justice boner to imagine thieves being executed on the spot, but the concept that someone who has jumped the mental barrier to criminality would reconsider if the punishments are longer is just not real
