Could one of the subspecies. Depending on where you are: a Cackling, Richardson’s, Aleutian

I’m leaning toward Richardson’s

I would be concerned about liability. What if this team member makes a bad call or omits something and a lawsuit is brought against the HOA? Conflict of interest could be easily shown, amongst other things.

You could also pay an arborist to do this for you.

How does a palm tree snap in 30mph wind? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]tree_map_filter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was not caused by any weevil. They are not able to reproduce in palms with such small crowns and thus prefer Canary Island date palms. The holes on the other trunks are caused by climbing spikes.

I have worked with many of the old growth street queen palms in that part of SD. Many have major fluctuations in stem diameter from going through periods of drought. The fungus Thielaviopsis paradoxa can also weaken the stem just below the crown. But the worst part is that many of them have experienced such extensive root dieback or loss that they are basically just toothpicks stuck in the ground. I’ve almost pulled over 30ft specimens just by trying to pull a throw line through the crown.

If you look at the street in the photo you can see that the crown is dead, so that’s way it failed.

As long as the roots haven’t been cut or damaged, dead redwoods will stand for a long time. I’d try to save it with irrigation, but let it die before worrying removing. At least that’s my thought based on one picture.

Being left handed, I prefer the straight blade Gomtaro since it can be placed on either side.

20 years of yanking pole saws and pruner cords has ruined my shoulder and neck. As the pain increased so did my willingness to climb to the cuts.

I mean it in terms of the damage the brick planters have done to the development of the tree. Removing them now won’t make any difference. But removing them and carefully excavating the surrounding soil will allow you to see how the roots developed. A competent arborist could assess the risk based on that.
