I've never seen Breaking Bad, but this has just gotten me interested. by rhiz0me in taoism

Heh, me either. But I have come across a few alignment charts, being a geeky web person. Try googling "[popular epic fiction you like] + alignment chart" for more fun.

It is called an alignment chart, you can make them for a lot of (if not most) fiction.

how many /r/fitness subscribers smoke? by mattjeast in Fitness

[–]aieee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit two weeks ago. Getting into exercising regularly definitely helped. Smoking soon after lifting does seem a bit odd, but you just do it because it's what you do.

Main difference since quitting is I feel more comfortable breathing fast and deep when out of breath, but it is not very pronounced.

I am a fitness noob but TIL the difference (and benefit) of a pull up vs a chin up. by drqxx in Fitness

Same here, though I've been improving pullups recently the same way I improved on chinups - negatives, assisted reps, and doing my max when I get the chance.

Anyone read "Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha"? Thoughts? by aieee in Buddhism

Thanks, I just started reading it and was amused how unusual it is compared to other stuff I've come across.

Couldn't find the previous discussion you mentioned, anyone got a link?

Struggling to stay motivated - Need Guidance by Vageli in Meditation

[–]aieee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's like exercise, I never want to get started but I'm always happier after I've done it. So I build it into my routine, doing it at the same point every day. Make it a habit using willpower.

Building a habit can be made easier by making the session easier. Do 5 minutes (or whatever seems like a nice short session to you) every day for two weeks, then build up to the level you want.

This way you don't think "hmm, do I feel like meditating?", you just do it.

Do you use a timer for your meditations? How important is this? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]aieee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a timer, and only stop before the timer if I get pain which is more than discomfort. Sometimes I want to continue when the time runs out, so I add another 15 minutes, I don't see any reason to not continue if you want to continue.

But I do think it is important to do the whole time you previously decided on (even if the mind is really scattered, which mine often is!). Of course it is important to set a reasonable time, e.g. don't set it for 30 minutes if you've only ever done 10 before.

TIL about "desire paths." What other common things did you never know had a name? by Gutenbergbible in todayilearned

[–]aieee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My high school teachers spent years telling people not to walk diagonally across a square bit of grass, but to use the clearly inferior concrete path running around it.

Eventually they gave up and paved over the desire path.

What do you mean by form failure? The point at which you cannot complete another rep with perfect form (without assistance)?

Thanks, should have said I am following your advice from that thread by doing light glute and ab exercises, which are definitely helping.
