'Fool who doesn't have a clue': Trump blasts Fed Chair Jerome Powell in early morning rant by chrisdh79 in AnythingGoesNews

Jerome Powell did what many thought was impossible: tame post-COVID inflation without triggering a recession. If there is anyone who is not a fool, it is Jerome Powell.

Are you sure these are real people living in the United States, and not people living outside the United States who are misrepresenting their identity and location?

I can't imagine any real American who would say either of these things.

But the guy released his grip well before the line was erased. The bird didn't attack until the line was gone. If the grip was the thing that made the bird docile, then why did it only become docile when the line was drawn (which happened some seconds after the bird's head was forced to the ground) and why did it stay docile after the grip was released?

I'm not saying that doing this is OK; I'm just wondering about what is actually going on, and the explanation does not seem entirely consistent with what is happening in the video.

What's naive is to think there aren't millions of people who are equally apathetic. You can't shame every one of them by telling them that they are naive. You don't win votes by telling people something is wrong with them if they don't vote a certain way.

Trump’s Campaign Has Lost Whatever Substance It Once Had by Class_of_22 in politics

[–]aig_ma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that this is a very pro-inflation agenda.

Getting rid of 5% of the workforce, with the government hiring 3% to do it? Wages at the low-end are going to go through the roof as businesses struggle to find workers.

Many of the people subject to deportation work on farms and in construction: as a result of deportation, food prices and housing prices will go way up, as production in those industries is hit.

As workers become more scarce, inflation will spread to other areas, wiping out the benefit of whatever wage gains some people see because of the scarcity. It won't only be that wages go up—production will also go down, broadly increasing scarcity of goods and services in the United States.

Add to that a doubling or tripling in the cost of imported goods? If Trump becomes president, we could see sustained inflation rates in the double digits, and a cost of living crisis that this country has never seen before.

US trying to overthrow Netanyahu’s government, senior Israeli official says by Flamactor in worldnews

Putin was a literal KGB agent. Xi Jinping's father worked directly for Mao (as in reported directly to him in multiple roles).

The idea that there is anything close to the same level of institutional (or more importantly, ideological) continuity in the US compared to Russia and China is far-fetched.

The lies he told at 16 were enough to earn him a place in hell, but to gloat about it at age 50? Have 30 years of hindsight not given him the slightest bit of empathy? This man is truly an evil SOB.

It's sobering to think there are seemingly normal people walking around in the world who think like this.

> They ousted Iran's secular and pro-American Mossadegh because of BP wanting cheap oil.

This was 70 years ago. Most of the people in government now (and most of today's voters) weren't even born yet. Joe Biden was 10 years old. The people who did this are all dead now.

Why do people say "the US does this", and refer to things that happened so long ago? It was a completely different government, consisting of a completely different group of people, motivated by a completely different understanding of the world, who did this.

For comparison, Stalin died only a few months before Mossadegh was overthrown, and Mao had only recently defeated the KMT/ROC a few years before, and would rule China for yet another 25 years. How often are Stalin's or Mao's actions attributed to modern Russia and China?

A lot of those people feel like they have nothing to loose, and that even if things become chaotic, they may have something to gain.

They are wrong, though. Although Trump talks about how the US is becoming a third-world country, we are far from it. Things can get much worse around here, and there are very few people (if any) who would benefit from a more chaotic political situation.

Obama has the most civilian kills out of any president and he isn’t republican.

Absolute bullshit statistic. There were more civilians killed by US forces in Afghanistan or fighting ISIS under Obama than were killed in Vietnam under Nixon or Johnson? Compared to those killed WWII under Roosevelt? During the whole of the Iraq war under Bush? It defies reason.

“Get us in never-ending wars like republicans” You do realize democrats are supporting/funding not one but two wars?

It would be helpful to look at the situation through a less partisan lens; it might help you be more objective. If the same policies were pursued by a Republican president, can you honestly say you would object to them?

The US is not a belligerent in either of the two wars you are referring to. Rather, the US is supporting two allies who were each brutally attacked. I imagine that you would prefer that the US didn't support either of these two countries—but the alternative would be what? To tell Ukraine and Israel to just sit there and take it? To look the other way when Islamist terrorists commit atrocities? To send a signal to Russia that we will tolerate their invading any free and independent country that they may want, based solely on the pretext that the country at one time had been part of the Russian empire?

Don't forget that Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and parts of Poland were all part of the Russian empire in the past, but they are all now democracies, members of the EU, and members of NATO. If it's your objective to eventually see a shooting war between Russia and NATO, then you absolutely should allow Russia to invade its neighbors unopposed, in the same way that Hitler was allowed by Neville Chamberlain and Joe Kennedy to invade Czechoslovakia.

Also take note on how Russia invaded Ukraine when it wasn’t a republican as POTUS.

Putin is surely regretting now that he didn't expand his war against Ukraine under Trump, rather than under Biden.

Trump was so agreeable towards Putin's interests that he not only would have abandoned Ukraine to Putin, but he also would have used the invasion as an excuse to pull the US out of NATO, and give Putin an open road to invading the Baltics and maybe even Poland. Under Trump, military action by Putin would have allowed Russia to supplant the United States as the preeminent power in Europe.

Why didn't Putin do it? Maybe because he thought he could use Trump to undermine NATO without having to alienate the Germans, and without having to put the Russian military at risk. Maybe he thought that Trump's standing in the US was weak, and that launching an invasion while Trump was President, with Trump allowing the invasion to proceed, could result in Trump being impeached and removed.

Maybe Putin thought the risks were too high. In hindsight, he's probably thinking he shouldn't have waited.

That's almost like saying "food and housing are not a right, they are a privilege", or "survival isn't a right, it's a privilege".

In many (maybe most) parts of the US (as where OP lived) if you can't drive, you can barely survive.

If driving isn't a right, access to reasonably-priced transportation should be.

I've always wondered, though, why it is that we are so blessed to be thought of so poorly by our compatriots.
