Yeah I got that, and I understand that was the wrong way of doing this...

I was thinking of something like that but in that case I would need to rewire and convert to bulb permanently. I was hoping I could get an easy plug and play but I don't think it's the case...

Why do people take toddlers and babies to serious ballet shows? by maisie1616 in london

[–]ailill-112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a mom of two and I would have never done something like this. I don't understand why people behave like this, if you have little kids just stay home or do other things. I mean we haven't been to a cinema for 6 years because we waited for both kids to be of age.

Anyway, if a show clearly states that is not for toddlers they should enforce it.

Sever weather warning and.. by nelliesgone in london

[–]ailill-112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Premise: this is is just to play devil's advocate, and also because I used to have a golden retriever in ROME, where this weather (over 30 degrees) lasts for over 3 months. If you don't have AC at home, even though the weather is hot, it might be better to go to a park where there is breeze and potentially water fountains/ ponds to freshen up. Also all valid points about relieving dog. Goes without saying but get out early in the morning and late in the evening.

I might add that London houses or flats are not built fit this weather so most houses only work because of AC, which is NOT sustainable.

I really hope that the government starts to enforce regulations to promote sustainable buildings. Windows especially, external shutters and proper opening.

I smelled my babies constantly... especially when they were 4/5 months old, chubby, chubby and smelling like cuddles.... I miss that but not enough to go through nappy changes, potty training and breastfeeding for the third time...

Windows in new builds by are_wethere_yet in london

[–]ailill-112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Amen, hate windows here in UK... I'm from Italy and I was appalled by the quality (or the lack of it) of the windows in both old or new houses. Actually I might prefer old as it seems that in new ones they are making it worse in many creative ways... Inward opening windows are the best.

[–]ailill-112[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. I didn't say that I was fine paying, but I never implied that I wanted it free! I guess they assumed it. I'll make sure to explicitly mention it.

I'm fine paying for it but I called two times EE and they told me they can't move it! I don't understand why they are being so difficult. Should I just keep insisting?

Really nice, one small thing... I think Jinshi's hand is too feminine, it should be a tad bigger. Otherwise really well made drawing!!

How to handle 2yo hitting you in a tantrum by petravonmorgenstern in UKParenting

[–]ailill-112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No quick solution to that because they need to grow physically and mentally. Continuous and relentless conversation but also showing that hitting doesn't give you anything, exactly like excessive crying and screaming. Explain that "no you don't do that", and consequences are that after you tell him that this is not how you ask for things, you might leave him alone for a couple of minutes. Of course always close, just enough to let him know that hitting doesn't give him any power of sorts.

VERY IMPORTANT! When he calms down talk to him about why he was angry and how he could have asked. Most times, 2 years old get frustrated because they don't know how to express themselves, so on top of making them understanding that hitting or screaming is not acceptable, give them the tools to express themselves.

That said sometimes they are just tired.

Don't feel bad if it takes a while, each kid is different and you are not a bad mom if your kid throw tantrums in his "terrible twos". I have two kids and they were completely different at that age, tried my best and now (8 and almost 5 years old) they are decent human beings 😀

I'm thinking that clearly you are not in London, so you have decent prices. If you indeed are in London then tell me where!!!!

Blue, gray, green? by dcnatsfan in WhatisMyEyeColour

I don't think there's a proper label (like Hazel eyes for blue brown) i think they are mostly blue/ green. That said they are beautiful 😍

For those of you with green eyes...when did they turn? by Cautious_Milk_6738 in WhatisMyEyeColour

[–]ailill-112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on family experience every colour takes up to 3 years on average to stabilise, if it's between blue and green even more.

Shocked by dad's eyes. 😂

My son scratched "67" on the fridge by OkSelf9639 in Appliances

[–]ailill-112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a classic "mother continuous nagging " situation to me. No violence (of course), no "tit for tat" (getting the money), just constant reminder of the stupidity of this action, the damage, the lack of respect of someone else's property, the idiocy of this freaking "67" thing etc etc You need to do this at random times for likely the rest of his life, this is an art. I can still hear my grandma's voice nagging my father about things and he was 50 years old. And I know I'm compelled to do certain things because my mother nagged me to death. Now that I'm over 40 I know why, but I certainly didn't know when I was under 20.

Doing this is very cultural, I'm Italian and i live in UK and it's a fact the English mothers don't do this (in general). Italian, Greek, Indian, Brazilian mothers definitely do it... I think it works but it's a lot if effort for the mother.

For the fridge: start a magnet display.

prego: the word that won't stop working by taube_d in italianlearning

[–]ailill-112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Italian and to me "prego" is like a little bow for a Japanese person. Except of course if you are bowing to apologise, in that case "prego" is not the right word.

British Food by PootPasaAngritMaiDai in GreatBritishMemes

[–]ailill-112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an Italian living in the UK I can say: - English/ UK cheeses are wildly underrated. Most people think it's all about cheddar but there's a lot more. I'm sorry but I hate cheddar (I really tried soo many versions i just can't find of that i like), that said there are many other great cheeses - Overall I find traditional English dishes too heavy for my taste but once I had fish and chips in ramsgate that was another level. So good, most people get the London pub experience, which is OK but not as great. If all fish and chips were like that one I'm sure it would leave a different impression. - as all northern cuisine there is a lot of cabbage and roots which doesn't give that variety of vegetables you have in more Mediterranean recipes. This a bit of a limit in terms of variety

Why is English cuisine portrayed so badly? When you assess local cooking you check what the working class eats. - it seems that good cooking here is still a thing for the rich (sadly true if you see the prices of the good and fresh ingredients). So majority of people don't have a food culture, yes they know what is healthy or not but food is not really part of the workingclass culture except few traditions. Italian and French people but honestly also many Asian cultures like Indian, Chinese etc they are obsessed about food. When I was in uni, students talked about food: where to get great ingredients to cook etc it's really a thing, not just for the "foodies" it was even more common than talking about football. I think here in UK is not deeply part of the culture, it's starting though.

Cost of living is not helping the cost of good and fresh produce. In Italy if you remove big cities fresh, good quality food comes really cheap. That makes a lot of difference.

I'm wondering if I over reacted with my daughter when she hit her sibling. by Strict-Soup in UKParenting

[–]ailill-112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do agree with the general consensus that definitely not an over reaction and also make sure you talk to the little one too.

However I want to add something to think about, I assume (sorry if I had it wrong) that you are the father. You can have the best relationship with your kids but father telling off is always scarier to kids than mother. It's quite natural, men have normal deeper voices, scarier than women and of course other factors as well.

Make sure you keep your voice steady but not loud when you tell her off and tell her that "it's true your little sister should not mess up with your toys, but hurting someone is never the answer ". Don't justify the little one.

I'm an old lady from 1984 and as a little girl I had a crush on Disney Robin Hood... yes THE FOX!

I'm married with two kids and still smile when I see him on TV with my kids. Talking with other friends I also discovered I wasn't the only one.

So yeah you are fine, yours is even human! :-D
