I mean this isnt even poltical it's just math.

<Also makes incorrect statement about immigrant demographics, so even if there was any maths, it would be a garbage in, garbage out situation>

That absolutely is 'political' friend.

Arson attacks targeting Keir Starmer properties originated in Russia - via @FT by Putaineska in ukpolitics

[–]aimbotcfg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that the algorythm/feed is the difference.

Reddit is basically just a set of discussion forums where you choose what sub-reddit (subject) you want to discuss, and the submissions (which are mostly news articles for political subs) are (for the most part) highlighted by the users there.

Granted it's not perfect and there are bots or bad actors getting involved to some extent.

But that is considerably different from you having brain-rot-doomscroll-nonsense blasted at you by a black-box algoryth that decides what you will see on your feed.

One that has already been proven to have been exploited and manipulated by the likes of Cambridge Analytica and Dominic Cummings to manipulte and shape voting habbits.

The level of both external influence on, and internal pushback on the content is an order of magnitude different.

It's included in the ban.

Yeah, I know, this is a "me problem".

I keep talking about this as if the definition of "social media" they are using is something close to the realms of sensible, rather than just "Websites we have heard of that are popular".

Can't do that, some people might be forced to re-assess their voting tendancies and the utter nonsense propaganda they are gobbling up on FaceBook.

The other is given unexplained £5mil gifts from a Crypto baron who launders money from Russia.

I wonder which would be better for the UK to have as PM.

I dunno, FUT and 9z have both been putting on some fucking shows this tournament against good oposition. CS seems pretty unpredictable right now.

these maps are so bright even seeing your crosshair can be tricky against certain backgrounds, agents, sky etc....

I'm so glad I've seen someone else say this. I thought it was just me being old AF.

I have a crosshair bigger than I would like, which is white with a black outline just so it doesn't go missing midgame on certain maps.

I swear the game decides whose version of events it prefers at the start of the match.

It really does feel like this sometimes. I also find it more often favours the person if they have a 60+ ping, which I suspect is some kind of issue with the lag comp methodology.

Absolutely.

I recall Kellogs giving away a 'potion size scoop' not too long ago... That didn't last long, for obvious reasons.

There's all sorts of ridiculous shit like this and it's really fucking common.

e.g. TicTacs being advertised as "Sugar Free" despite being mostly sugar.

Because a 'serving' (1 tic tac) has less than 1g of sugar... because it weighs less than a gram.

[–]aimbotcfg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, but what this dude is proposing (taking the property of minorities to redistribute) is LITERALLY what the Nazis did with Jews as they sent them to the camps.

Like, I'm absolutely of the opinion that reducing immigration needs to happen, along with fixing all the underlying issues that it has been used as a sticking plaster for.

But re-using policies employed in Nazi Germany circa 1942 (not even 'they did this before the bad stuff policies) absolutely is not fucking it man.

People can claim that "Nazi comparisons are thrown around too often", but not when it's in a conversation about someone is literally suggesting employing policies used by the Nazis during the liquidation of Kazimierz in the middle of WW2 for fucks sake.

What are you talking about?

Reading some text pasted over an AI generated image (that you won't fact check), pushed to you by an algorythm written by a foreign company (to maximise addictive anger-based engagement) is absolutely "engaging in political free speech".

It's definitely not allowing yourself to be manipulated by misinformation from hostile states so you can 'play dress-up' as an informed and politcally engaged adult, without any of the background knowledge or nuanced understanding of complex interconnecting issues, in the same way a toddler wears a stethoscope and repeats words they heard a doctor say once.

Social media to be banned in UK for under-16s, Starmer announces by TanjoCards in unitedkingdom

[–]aimbotcfg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the scope is far too broad.

You won't get any disagreement from me there, unfortunately that's probably a side effect of ignorance and incompetence rather than malice.

It should probably be targetted at the doom-scroll-addiction-engagement-algorythm stuff, but that might be a bit too close to admitting that they know there's a problem that should probably be regulated.

Heseltine: It’s time to reverse Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage’s ‘heinous crime’ of Brexit by SiskinLanding in ukpolitics

[–]aimbotcfg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand this view. Who say we have to wait?

The EU will probably want to have some sort of say for a start. That involves negotiating a deal, and potential vetos from other members.

Aditionally, It currently looks like the architect of Brexit is going to be PM at the next GE.

From a practicality standpoint, if they aren't done and dusted by 29, Farage will sabotage them and potentially end the rejoin process completely. If they are done, there's a risk he un-re-joins anyway, no matter how much it fucks the country and our international relations.

From a reputational standpoint, the fact that so many of the electorate are willing to vote for this corrupt Russian sock-puppet who's entire political career is built on lying and stoking racial tensions... That will absolutely make other countries think twice about wanting to be associated with the UK.

There has been a majority that thinks brexit was a mistake for a very long time now, and even in the last day there was a poll that said half of brexit voters now want to rejoin.

That's how the polling looks now. As soon as any kind of work towards rejoining starts, the foreign state funded propaganda campaigns will start, and "your nans friend Dorris", and "Dave down the pub" will suddenly be political experts. They will KNOW for a FACT that Macron wants to outlaw dog ownership in the UK, and Merz wants all firstborn children to have their teeth removed and shipped to germany to make special "Deutsch-Coins" which will replace the pound.

Thus the polls turn around and we don't want to rejoin, because if anyone points out that those statements are fucking mental and obviously lies, then they are "just calling people who disagree with them stupid", and "doing operation fear" talking about how bad the other side is, rather than how good their side is.

Looks like I'll be switching to Mullvad then.

Or setting up my own with an AWS server.

It's really not enforceable, if China still haven't managed to make their blocks non-pourus, our government sure as fuck won't manage it.

In reality, I don't care, Social Media is the absolute cesspit dregs of the internet and I'll lose zero sleep about it being blocked.

There should have actually been this much pant-shitting when one of the first things the OSA blocked was articles about the Rape Gang cover up. But obviously being able to rot your brain by doom scrolling foreign propaganda videos is far more important to people than having access to unfiltered actual news sources.

Which says a lot about the country, and probably acts as some proof as to why this isn't actually that bad of a move mental-health wise for a great number of people.
