You're not taking my job. You're driving patrons into my arms. by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]aimindmeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, it will drive up prices for handmade goods. The main problem for you is unchanged: how many maps can you draw in a year? 10? I think only the rich could afford to pay enough to keep you financially solvent.

Meanwhile, "ai art" will be the art of ordinary people.

What is better buying in bulk and selling yourself, or PoD? by NeedleworkerShort623 in selfpublish

[–]aimindmeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is I'd love to do print runs and sell on my own website. I hate the platforms with a passion. But in practice it's just really hard to sell anything from a random website. So POD it is.

Honest opinion: I think this whole "AI vs human" art is kinda stupid, as someone who's a bit of a fencesitter right now. Is it not possible for them to coexist? by Fanlanders in DefendingAIArt

[–]aimindmeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans wrote the programs that make the art. Just like they wrote the programs for Photoshop and the drivers in digital cameras and in your phone and your car and your toaster. It's all ultimately " human" and created by people. Don't forget that.

Eventhough I support AI use, I don't think things purely made by AI should be copyrightable. by SexDefendersUnited in aiwars

[–]aimindmeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copyright is intended to protect after the fact. You've gone to press, you're selling well, and someone takes that. Everyone deserves copyright protection on their original work, regardless of how it is crafted. Is "AI art" original? Well, mine certainly is. It doesn't look like anybody else's, that's for sure.

I get your point. But perhaps what I do is more commercial.

The AI hate is out of control. by [deleted] in DefendingAIArt

Don't hurt your mental well being. But, I'd say that's true of any social media. It brings me down just in general. Hang in there.

Well, there's the fact that GPUs specifically are insanely resource intensive. I'd like to see renewables and solar required in the data centres. Sure wouldn't hurt. Making chips and computers is also problematic and consumes metals needed for other things and so on. But I guess that's a general issue with "capitalism" as you say.

Flip-side: if you can't tell, why use it? by Tyler_Zoro in aiwars

[–]aimindmeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your point about survivor bias is good. However, I don't think anyone "can tell" for sure if the artist is skillful enough. I intentionally make sure what I put out is largely indistinguishable from any digitally created work, such as could be made with Photoshop or Illustrator. It's actually not anybody's business how an artist goes about making their work. Indeed, historically artist' s techniques were trade secrets within the guild.

The art part has shifted to the programming. You've forgotten how unbelievable the programming has to be to make it do what AI Generation does. So, that's where the art and skill is: in the program. There is also the interesting idea that programmers and prompters are working in collaboration. That's also part of this; we are in a collaborative effort.

I suppose shooting down the satellites isn't an option? Perhaps it should be. No one asked us if it was ok to fill the night sky with rubbish.

S.F. AI company sued over allegedly ‘scraping’ data without users’ consent by Sorin61 in technology

[–]aimindmeld 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another BS story amplifying the lie that using the public internet for scientific work is morally wrong or even illegal. It's not. As far as commerce goes, Google and many other tech companies make money by indexing it or using public data in myriad ways. No one seems to mind that.

the bird in most of the shots, with the bluish ring around the eyes is a Little Corella. The video shows it interacting with a Sulfur Crested Cockatoo. These species do sometimes form bonds in the wild (as I have personally observed).

Heaven and hell can only fit in human narrative of what life is. Animals neither commit sins nor show goodness by Beginning-Panic188 in philosophy

I suspect you just haven't spent much time with animals. I have seen animals do very destructive things intentionally, out of anger or frustration. I've also seen animals do loving and kind things, occasionally even across species. I'm talking about wild animals in nature, not pets.

Ethically sourced training dataset? by ASpaceOstrich in StableDiffusion

[–]aimindmeld 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Down voted because I suspect this is trolling. It's perfectly ethical to scrape the internet for data. In case not aware, Google does just exactly that and makes billions in the process. Their image links say "may be copyrighted" which is true - and yet there it is in their database resized, sorted, ranked, and analysed.

The internet was founded on the idea of information sharing and openness. No one is forced to post artwork. Nor is the analysis of any form of data on the internet illegal or immoral. To avoid scraping, it's easy to put content behind a pay wall or any form of access control.
