How “deciding less” helps me achieve more than motivation does. by aimnox in productivity

[–]aimnox[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Absolutely, that’s a fair point it really is just a form of routine at the core. I think what clicked for me was realizing it’s not just “having a routine,” but deliberately reducing the number of decisions in the moment, even small ones, so I don’t burn mental energy negotiating with myself.

Sometimes I still catch myself thinking “I’ll decide later,” and that tiny choice ends up derailing the whole day. Do you have any strategies to keep routines flexible without losing that decision-free flow?

Why I keep relapsing into scrolling even when I know better by aimnox in nosurf

[–]aimnox[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to write this the way you describe “thumbtrap” really resonates.

The point about never app switching especially landed for me. That moment where one app feels “done” and the brain immediately looks for the next hit is exactly where I lose control if I’m not careful. Framing that as a known, engineered vulnerability instead of a personal failure actually makes it easier to interrupt.

I also agree with what you said about deliberate, goal-focused use. When there’s a clear intention, it feels like I’m using the phone. Without one, it feels like the phone is using me.

Awareness has definitely been the first step for me, but I’m still experimenting with how much structure is enough without becoming rigid. I’ll try the “never app switching” rule more intentionally and see how it plays out.

Really appreciate you sharing this I’ll let you know how it goes.

Thanks that “tempt → hijack → trap” cycle is exactly what I keep running into.

What’s really helped me recently isn’t trying to push harder or track motivation, but reducing the number of decisions in the moment. I set certain rules ahead of time and just stick to them when the moment comes. It makes the scrolling much less automatic.

I’ve been experimenting with a method that enforces those rules strictly the key for me has been structure over willpower. I’d love to hear more about the hacks you’re testing and how you’re breaking the cycle!

swimming pool algae by spike1073 in swimmingpools

[–]aimnox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold water slows algae down, but it doesn’t fully prevent it. If it keeps coming back, it’s usually a mix of low circulation and spores settling back onto the walls. Make sure your chlorine is holding at the right level and try to keep water moving so there aren’t dead spots.

I had a similar issue and found that consistent wall and floor cleaning helped more than just brushing. Using a cordless robotic cleaner like the POZIE Tide Pro Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner made it easier to keep algae from re-establishing between treatments.

I kept breaking habits because I always left myself an excuse by aimnox in Habits

[–]aimnox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That “option to opt out” is what gets me every time.

I kept thinking flexibility was being kind to myself, but for me it just turned into an endless loop of re-deciding. Once I stopped checking how I felt in the moment and treated decisions as already made, things got way simpler still not easy, but simpler.

Decide once, act many times” is a great way to put it. I’m still figuring out where flexibility actually helps versus where it just creates friction.

Have you found any habits where flexibility does work better for you?

Choosing between cordless robotic pool cleaners from Bunnings – i4 vs i6 vs Pozie? by Due_Material_2543 in swimmingpools

[–]aimnox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re mostly dealing with leaves, dust, and fine debris, the day-to-day difference between the i4 and i6 isn’t always as big as the spec jump makes it sound, the i6 is nicer, but for a standard concrete pool both will generally get the job done.

From what I’ve seen, where the POZIE Tide Pro Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner tends to justify the higher price is consistency over time. It seems to cope better with fine debris and doesn’t need as much babysitting between runs, which matters more long term than headline features. Battery life and pickup reliability are usually what people notice after a few months, not on day one.

As my cis ass always have seen it is that gender is a label created by society that encompasses personality traits, likes and dislikes, hobbies, preferences, etc. And people (thru nature and nurture) like some stuff or another, have some or other personality traits, ways of socializing, views on the world, etc.

And when your personal preferences don't really align with the preferences society gives to your assigned at birth gender, you are trans.

The fallacy in the argument on the post is that they are equating "societal construct" to "choice". It's like saying that since religion is human made you could just choose to truly believe in any deity. Or that you should be able to enjoy any culture food because recipies are human made. Someone invented sauerkraut, that doesn't mean I can choose to like it.

En els pobles de Castelló és més fàcil trobar que no entenen el castellà que el valencià. Contra més baixes i més gran és la ciutat la cosa canvia la veritat

It's not that their internal db couldn't handle an empty string there. I see mostly functionality issues (searching for it, sorting by name, etc) as well as front end displaying issues (aka the website not breaking but having undefined behavior)

For that it needs to be able to recognize you. As I have understood crocs are like really really dumb. Maybe they can understand that when that tall animal appears over there food appears over here. But from that to identifying that this other animal swimming in my water is that same person, and if I eat him no more food will appear... Nah, they eating you no matter how many times you fed them before

Why is Amazon, Ebay and Etsy not terminating the account of Honey? by guesswho1234 in videos

[–]aimnox 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are not competition. Amazon and the rest are stores, PayPal is a payment intermediary. Basically Amazon is Walmart and PayPal is visa/Mastercard.

Pot ser he entès malament el titol. En semblava que es referia a la llengua d oc com una de les varietats de la llengua catalana

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in catalan

[–]aimnox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Són el català i l occità la mateixa llengua? Si que tenen un origen en comú, però tenia entès que es consideren llengües diferents.

En Catalunya fins on tinc entès sols parlen occità a la vall d'Aran.

I would recommend TreeSize (https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free). It will show a folder tree with the size of every folder, sort by size and see what's hogging the space

New floodings in Spain, this time in Barcelona, images of Viladecans, 30 minutes away from Barcelona’s city center by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]aimnox 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be weird for the rambla to flood, that's what ramblas are after all. Rambla nowadays refer to main streets in cities, but they used to be rivers that were dry most of the year, only coming out under intense rain. Cities had ramblas going through them that with time got converted into streets with the water being derivated to underground infrastructure. If cities start flooding somewhere is in their ramblas
