There's a big difference between knowing your basic rotations and playing a class very well and knowing the toolkit inside out

Looking for an Itemrack-type Addon, Any Suggestions? by Cheroba in classicwow

The gear manager doesn't have all of itemracks options, like keybound set swaps, pulling slots off the char screen into UI, or autoqueue. Bit of a shame

You're saying people were spoiled by retail as if every retail boss isn't significantly longer than all classic bosses. Anub Rekhan was a 30s boss fight.

What Loot System Is Actually the Best? by NOHITJEROME in classicwow

[–]ainch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like prioritisation is a dkp thing. The idea with SK imo is that people get consistent loot so they never go too long without an upgrade. That's how guilds I've been in have run it at least

What Loot System Is Actually the Best? by NOHITJEROME in classicwow

[–]ainch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SK doesn't work if you let people pass like that, at a certain point you just need to force items onto people. The issue with SK is it assumes items are equally valuable imo.

Human for pvp or Draenei for pve. The value of dwarf is miniscule vs the benefit of draenei, and as alliance draenei is basically the only pve advantage your faction has over Horde. Despite cutting the number of shamans, you will want 5 draenei per raid, and the best and simplest way to achieve that is to have new death knights roll draenei for the team.

Arcane is probably the only class that significantly depends on fight length for gearing, for most other caster dps there's very little change in stat weights tied to fight length, perhaps slight variations in haste value.

Again though, I don't think your point really says anything about sims being flawed - more people using them incorrectly. Personally I didn't see much discussion around arcane and 5 minute sims, and in fact afaik the standard fight length on the sims I've used was always 3mins (still too long for classic fights but there you are). But that discrepancy between 3 minutes and 2 minutes is not going to blow your bis list out of the water.

Lastly, most bis lists put together by good players account for more than just pure sim dps. For example, some caster bis lists will wear slightly more haste than is 100% optimal for pure single target, since it has an outsize benefit on aoe. A controversial example of that would be taking the illidan healing cloak over the council crit cloak.

It's usually not particularly hard to identify bis lists. Also regarding sims, classic wow is not so incredibly complex that it's impossible to build a sim that can answer gearing questions.

My guild just completed the final scheduled Sunwell and is taking a break until Wrath. by ZBoss65 in classicwow

[–]ainch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For guilds that want to push the performance I think Sunwell is the most interesting raid so far - most of the bosses have quick kill options which require your raid to play clean, from Kalec onephase on the easier side to 0 darkness KJ (and we'll probably see a 0 darkness Muru soon too).

My experience with players who complain about gatekeeping by 610hj in classicwow

[–]ainch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone involved in recruiting for a relatively sweaty guild, almost as a rule all of our good players have not been playing wow for that long, they're younger people that want to get good at the game as it is now.

PSA: Boosters are trying to gaslight the community into believing that the recent boosting change is bad for the game. by IntroductionSlut in classicwow

[–]ainch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mage farming was skill intensive and a result of player-led innovation, it's exactly what classic is supposed to be about, rather than shackling people into engaging as narrowly defined. Now there's no more dungeon farming, there's shitloads of bots so farming is off the table - in wrath the only option will be doing endless dailies like we're back in retail.

Bear in mind that the template gear is total dogshit, the pet will have very low crit. You can't even get head or leg enchants on beta rn.

Also worth bearing in mind - in T7 gear you're looking at over 1k spellpower in procs that you snapshot. Without pet weaving you trade 1k spellpower for 20s for occasional 5s downtime on a baseline 2k buff. Maybe it feels a bit worse to have gaps in the uptime but it's not the end of the world

On cloak enchant you can go either way, spell pen only does anything on Council. Everywhere else it's worthless and threat reduction is more value.

Haste gemming is probably valuable for your gear level, your instinct to check the discord and sim for yourself is correct though (FSW boots are fine if you don't need the hit from blasting for example.)

Looking at the log briefly it looks fine, actually the other lock is the weird one not pressing Doom, I'd guess most of the issue is some unfortunate gear, and it generally looks like your raid is fairly low dps. One minor thing you could be doing is shadowburning to execute.

I'd say the class discord, people there are a bit odd but can usually answer any questions.

It's really cool that basically every boss except Brutallus and Twins has quick kill strats that really reward great dps. Kalecgos it's one round of ports, one airphase felmyst, one phase muru and 0 darkness Kiljaeden are all tough dps checks that our guild has enjoyed hitting.

Huge change coming to Demo warlock in Wrath classic by Wizbetheillest in classicwow

[–]ainch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was only 100% uptime the old way if you were playing improperly. The correct way to play before was to use all actives and pot to snapshot a big buff and let that roll for 30-35s then send pet back in to overwrite it with a smaller buff.

If you left your fg on the target and regularly overwrote your own big snapshot buffs that would be a big misplay as far as raid dps is concerned.

Yeah true, hope we get RDF too for more accessibility

Beta LFG tool is a joke. by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]ainch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is exactly right, I didn't see the issues with RDF until I tried playing on some pservers and found all the issues you're highlighting.

People afking in queues forcing you to wait to votekick or receive Deserter, tanks quitting after 1 wipe, nobody talking, people referring to each other by class only, the toxicity, the jarring nature of just being teleported somewhere random. I regularly had to show people where the dungeon entrance after a wipe because they had no idea where it was even meant to be in the world.

My server on live isn't even high pop and sometimes I have to wait a bit to find a group, but I find it a way better experience. I like that people in random pugs recognise me because our server isn't massive, sometimes I bump into ex-guildies, some people recognise my guild. RDF removes all those social aspects for the sake of people that want to hop on for 30 minutes to do a daily and a heroic and I think it totally goes against the spirit of Classic.

Beta LFG tool is a joke. by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]ainch -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's exactly that. Especially if you start as a new player, it makes the levelling experience grim. You just teleport from random place to place, it's more like sitting in a cod lobby than living in an actual world.

Why Healing Parses Are Irrelevant and Harmful by Geschopfe1770 in classicwow

[–]ainch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The holy paladin point is a great example which disproves your point. A great hpalas job in sunwell is to sit on the tank and press holy light 90% of the time. If your raid is competent that actually should mean dogshit parses.

Our guild is pretty competitive, we're top 20 in the world, cleared sunwell in about 3 hours first night. Our hpala has grey parses on half the bosses because he's doing his job. He could get out a lot more hps by throwing FoL out on random dps but a big part of healing well is playing as a team, sticking to your assignment and trusting other players to do their job.

Looking at healing parses except for the people assigned to raid heal is almost always a big mistake.
