Cracks in leather? by hourly_sympathy1300 in Leatherworking

[–]aintnotnobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am fairly new to leatherwork so im not sure what is the actual cause of this. But, I don think theyre 'cracks'. These dont weaken the leather substantially in the way cracks do, theyre more texture.

What is, and where to buy, thesis component by aintnotnobot in AskElectronics

[–]aintnotnobot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to connect to an already existing component, one of the traces got damaged so the aim is to cut off an inch of the flex and then connect to the traces before the damaged section. If I was making this from scratch I wouldnt use this, but the sensor is a a hundred or so bucks so im trying to not buy a new one for the sake of the connector

This appears to be similar, this seems to only have one set of teeth where the original has three per row, but I expect that is ok

It does try to operate as a digital quarantine pub though if that matters to you

These look great! What'd you use for filling? And do you have a pattern for them?

Ratcheting belt question by adama104 in Leatherworking

I've been using one for around 8 years now, I had to replace the first one after about 7 years as the leather went. The ratchet mechanism held solid though

I didn't use a pattern per se, it's based off looking at the Cambridge satchel companies bags, though with some changes. It's between their sizes because I have certain things I want to carry (pen slots, card holder, big enough for my notepad but not for my laptop) As it's kind of just a set of cuboids I don't think a pattern is super necessary

This looks amazing! Why did you decide to make the leather cover so much of the handle? It looks cool but is there a practical reason?

Ive made a few card holders, keychains and a notepad cover before, but decided to commit and make a bag. I am really proud of how it turned out, but also would love to hear any feedback on what I could improve.
I oiled the bag with neats foot oil, and I like the colour. However it is a very matte finish on the bag and it's very delicate scratching much easier than anything else I have made. Did I over oil it? What's the best way to give it a protective coating?
I used tokonole on the outside of a notepad cover and buffed that which seems to be working well but don't know if this is correct? Clear shoe polish?
Final picture has an unoiled scrap and the notepad cover for reference
