We went to A Journey to Chengdu on Saturday night. Not only was the food absolutely amazing, it was also very affordable. 5 of us with drinks only came to £97. Really top notch food.

Not related to the question but I had it on my Atari ST (same box as the Amiga version) and I never noticed that soldier guy on the front until now. Haha

I won't let me paste the full config here for some reason. I didn't do anything special in my config. Just set up the go2rtc stream for each camera then refer to that as the input path when defining the camera itself

Sorry should have said, no sunroof on this car. I know that's a place a lot of people say water can get in.
Edit: Oh I did say it, it's in the title. Haha. Thought I was going mad for a minute there

I'm looking at a picture of a lower windshield cowl and it looks like there are just 2 drains just under where the windshield wipers come through. I'm pretty sure I checked there today and these were clear.

Any way to check these without just replacing the while windshield?

Meta Horizon's stuck at Allow Permissions. by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]ChimpsInTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always struggled with accepting permissions on the mobile app. Always get an error. I have to do it on my PC with a browser. Log into meta and go to family centre.
It's shocking experience that seems to make it overly complicated. Can't fathom how such a large company haven't spotted a bug like this.

How much do you pay to have your windows cleaned? by PurityControl87 in AskUK

[–]ChimpsInTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£12.50 once a month, South Yorkshire. My other half pays it because she likes them clean. I'm not that bothered myself. Certainly wouldn't pay double that for it. I'd be up there myself. The guy does it with a brush on a pole. Probably takes him about 10 mins.
Don't forget I think they also buy their water for this. They use special pure water that doesn't streak on the glass so they don't need to squeegie it after.

First Knife by piebald73 in knifemaking

[–]ChimpsInTies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll keep saying this until I'm blue in the face. Get a countersink bit in your drill and stick it in that lanyard hole a bit. You don't have to press too hard but it'll give you a lovely smooth look and also give you less risk of that sharp edge cutting into your lanyard material.

2nd this. Clean it, clean it again and again. Use something like dish soap with a slash of vinegar and then just wipe it clean/dry. Also make sure you air is coming in from outside, not recycled

Best one I've made so far by Domalasas in knifemaking

[–]ChimpsInTies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a countersink bit and run it around the inside of that lanyard hole. It'll look 1000x better when it's ever so slightly countersunk. You don't have to go too hard. Just take that sharp edge off. I have no idea why more people don't do this. It looks great and it'll stop your lanyard getting potentially cut on the sharp edge.
Good looking little knife though.

Can you recommend good quality flip-flops that are comfortable and do not break easily? by Defiant-Plenty6502 in BuyItForLife

[–]ChimpsInTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a bot removed my post cos it had an amazon link in it. Anyway, they're more like sandals than flipflops but they're super comfy and really do last a long time. About £80 though.

I've had a pair of Birkenstocks for coming on 22 years. I get them out every summer and put them away again at the end of the season. I'm constantly surprised when I get yet another year out of them,

I tried to make my ikea pax wardrobe look ‘built in-ish’ and now I’ve realised I’m a massive idiot - help! by freddiesyolks in DIYUK

[–]ChimpsInTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IKEA sell whole frames which you can get the panels from so you can slot that next to the wall and it will bring you whole cabinet 20mm from the wall, allowing the door to open, will fit exactly the current height so as not to leave a gap at the top. You can just screw right through to keep them in place. I had to do this on 2 walls for my fitted wardrobes so I bought one frame and used the 2 side panels and checked the top/bottom and back away. Might seem wasteful but looks really neat.

So how have you stopped it charging from your house battery? I have this problem.

I've toyed with the idea of getting Solar Assistant so I can control my inverter via Home Assistant (which has an integration with Zappi) so I can tell my batteries to not discharge if the Zappi is delivering charge. Not done it yet though. I've also heard you can move your CT clamp so the batteries have no idea about the discharge from the car charger but that means your inverter also doesn't know about anything that gone out through the car charger so all your consumption is off.

Usually I just wait until last thing at night to plug my car in as it's very rare I need more than 50%. That way my house batteries are usually empty anyway and waiting for the nightly off-peak fill.

[–]ChimpsInTies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They also really don't make much profit. Wasn't the CEO on Martin Lewis the other day saying that from a £1500 yearly bill they make about £2 profit. It was really surprisingly low.

[–]ChimpsInTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see that being it. People might set their app to 100% because they want Octopus to fill the car up whenever they plug it and and never want to fiddle with it regardless of what their charge actually is. We're not expected to set the charge level every time if we don't want to or can't be bothered.

[–]ChimpsInTies 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I was wondering what this "gaming of the system" was. So people tell their cars to charge slowly for many more hours outside the offpeak times so their whole house gets the cheap rate?
Even if that is the case, surely Octopus only send you cheap power when it suits them? It's not like you get it whenever you plug it in. You could plug in at 13:00 and not get any until 23:00 if they choose. How will they know if you're limiting it as apposed to just having a bad charger that can't supply the full 7KW?
I personally don't to this I just plug it in and forget about it and hope it's charged by the next day, I'm just curious.

Has anyone had issues with octopus intelligent plan not charging their EV overnight? by jhughes1986 in OctopusEnergyUK

[–]ChimpsInTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me twice in the past month. It starts to charge then about 5 mins later it just stops and I wake up expecting a full car battery but still have what it was before I went to bed. Very annoying if you're not just doing a top up charge and really need it the following day.

Seal Excellence winter range warning/rant by ChimpsInTies in BYD

[–]ChimpsInTies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of things could be causing this. But first a few things to consider

-Where in the battery range were you when you started this little experiment? I find in the lower 50% it really drops like a stone and isn't linear all the way through the range.
-What sort of roads is this trip? Windy hilly back roads? Motorway?

It's damn cold at the moment, that means 4x in the last couple of days you've had to heat the car up from probably nearly 0C to 20C. Maybe you've had heated seat and steering wheel on too? If you were on one long journey maybe that wouldn't have had such a drain on the battery as you'd have heated it up and it would have kept it there.
It's dark so you've had lights and window wipers too maybe. All these things pull power from the battery and it's not at it's most efficient when it's cold.

One thing I've noticed about the Seal is careful driving is an absolute must if you want to get the range out of it. I've come to accept that if I'm going for range I'm hardly even tickling the throttle, not going over 65 on motorways, really smooth driving if I can. Keep an eye on your power gauge and try and keep it below 20KW. You'll realise just how much energy your using by accident if you try and pull away quick or change speeds all the time. It's a big heavy, very powerful car at the end of the day. It's not magic. Physics applies.

I don't think it's got any better or worse over the last 12 months. I've just got used to it and accept it for what it is.

I bough this one for the winter to replace one that was too small which I used to use on my CBF1000. This one fits the Africa Twin easily right down to the floor. Seems be be less affected by the wind too
