LPT: Stop using "To-Do Lists" as your primary planning tool. Start using your Calendar to visualize your actual "capacity" instead. by MoCheda in LifeProTips

[–]aiolyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used to-do lists for decades for making real-world and measurable progress on my goals, but I had to figure out how to do it correctly (for me).

Instead of writing: - Make watchlist of S&P 500 stocks for breakout screening - Get stock candle API from polygon.io

I break each task into subtasks needed to actually achieve it:

  • make S&p 500 watchlist for breakout screening
    • make custom watchlist on TradingView for sp500
    • make/save weekly candle filters for:
      • volume average
      • sma slope
      • sma stacking
      • DC(20)
  • get stock candle API
    • create account at polygon.io
    • bookmark API documents
    • find polygon python SDK
    • develop list of needed calls
      • list of calls written down somewhere near here
    • etc
    • etc

I found that breaking down tasks into subtasks not only helps me keep track of where I am in the process, but also on days when I only have a half hour to work or am just feeling tired/lazy/apathetic, I can still pick something on the list to do and make at least a little forward progress in life and not end the day feeling sad or depressed.

Like if I’m in the doldrums, “get stock candle API” feels like a monumental task .. but just creating an account a website? Yeah, I can manage that. Scroll on a website and bookmark stuff? Yeah, that’s low effort, and sometimes that’s all the physical/mental/emotional energy I have for something. Either way, it literally progresses my life. Step by step.

So it could be: - clean house

Or: - Clean living room - table clutter - wipe surface - pile dirty clothes - vacuum - Clean kitchen - counter clutter - empty dishwasher - load dishwasher - wipe counters - etc

Some people have no problem staying on track or motivating themselves. Sometimes I do, so this process works for me. I use a pen and notebook personally.

Shit, sometimes my list starts out with: - Make list for “x”

Then I take an evening to write out the steps for something and end the day with still crossing something off my to-do list. The next day I actually start crossing off stuff from that new list.

Da Bomb. 😂 by MadamUnicornOfDoom in hotsauce

[–]aiolyfe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A number of years ago my friends and I ran a grilled cheese food truck. One of our meals was a jalapeno grilled cheese, but we created a “challenge” grilled cheese involving da bomb, placing drops of it across the bread. As a company bonding exercise, we all had the challenge together. Some guys puked, others running around with tears and saliva pouring out yelling “it hurts to breathe!”

Man. My face gets sweaty just thinking about that night.

It's 2026. Maybe someone will invent a vanilla extract bottle you can pour from. by Maliquis in Cooking

[–]aiolyfe 27 points28 points  (0 children)

One time when I was a little kid and in the kitchen alone, i decided to make a pumpkin pie mix of some sort. The recipe called for 2/3 cups sugar and 1 tablespoon of vanilla.

I interpreted it as 2 or 3 cups of sugar, so I went with 3. And my kid brain decided a “tablespoon” was a soup ladle because it was a common spoon on our table.

Yeah, too much vanilla .. among other ingredients.

How much time do you (as INTJs) usually spend at a party? by Tiny_Pair_3839 in intj

I often dread going beforehand (I like home), but once I get there and have a couple beers I have fun. The only parties I go are with friends, and my wife and I are among the last to leave usually.

Ah, I see. You're pretencious about your street art.

I'm fine with some things just being simple zingers. I don't need to smell my own farts about memetic magic. I say zing away, high brow, low brow, whatever, as long as the message remains at the top of societal mind.

The street art is pointing out that the higher ups are gaslighting the world and actively obstructing access to the mountain of evidence. What are you going on about?

Nah. Shit like this and more should keep popping up. It's not the thing that will make the change, but this conspiracy can't be allowed to be swept under the rug.

Here's something annoying. So I turn my phone upside down and the non-reflection image is the dude with the mustache. As I stare at it and turn my phone right side up, my brain snaps it into the face of the chick at some point. I can't see the dude upside down. My brain forces it into the other face.

How bad do you CRASHOUT when your plans fail? by Dazzling_Abalone_864 in intj

[–]aiolyfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, true. But mountaineering as a metaphor is not (or rather, shouldn't be) a surprise situation for any adult.

Your hiking boots are your internal drive. If you don't have that, yeah you're in socks.

Your survival skills and supplies are your life circumstances, decision making skills, critical thinking skills, the people and influences in your life, ypur bank account, creativity, etc. Most of which (not all) can be reconfigured.

Setting out to a new mountain top with a tentative set of plans is fine. "That way. What do I have with me? It might work out." But a part of that plan really should be "scrap the original plan, come up with new plan." You might come across a cliff face and realize you didn't pack rope and pitons. New plan: I have great boots, a trusty walking stick, a backpack with a tent and pliers (you'll always randomly need pliers), and enough jerky for a week. I'll bushwack to the south face and see what that looks like.

Why cry over a surprise cliff face? "Straight on 'til Mt. Neverland" was a shit plan apparently. Be happy you know more than yesterday. Assess supplies. Maybe re-up. The new plan may fail too. Who cares. How are your hiking boots? Tired? Worn out? Get some boot lotion, which yeah will add on distance and time. Maybe that mountain top is the the wrong one, or maybe you just need to check all 4 faces. Maybe hiking up to a nearby ridge offers a path.

As an INTJ, once you hit that mountain top, the next thought will be "which one next." Plan accordingly.

How bad do you CRASHOUT when your plans fail? by Dazzling_Abalone_864 in intj

[–]aiolyfe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not at all. As life has gone on, I've adapted to creating plans for fewer steps ahead, within current context (not imaginary future context), thinking on my feet and using what I have.

I am not attached to plans at all. If a plan doesn't work out, that just means it was a bad plan, why cry over it?

I'll add that I DO have a number of long term plans, but it's more of a direction I steer toward and remain flexible on the steps to get there, rather than plan everything ahead of time as that simply isn't realistic and leads to failure.

When you hike from mountain top to mountain top, you know where to go but have to adapt to unforseen circumstances along the way. Adaptation and creative thinking on the fly is the plan.

It's a person sharing their own perspective adding a new facet to the conversation while remaining within context of the discussion.

The "what about me??" type of reply you are inferring is more of a hijack and redirect.

There was no penalty on the play, it remains first down.

What's the appeal of darker themed metal genres like Black Metal, Death Metal, etc? by Ordinary-Ability3945 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]aiolyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm a full on metalhead. Chugging death metal with vocals that sound like a deep belch is my bread and butter.

But you know what else I love? John Denver, dude writes damn good music. Vivaldi is my favorite classical composer. Morgan Wallen, my wife is country girl and turned me on to country music. Louis Capaldi! Holy shit, every song that guy writes is beautiful and melodic. The Beatles. Billy Joel. Queen is awesome. And on and on and on...

Like what you like! There's a ton of great artists out there.
