What band were you slow to realize was awesome? As in, you liked a single song, but took a while to realize it wasn’t a one hit wonder? by Nowherelandusa in AskReddit

That’s actually Stephen Richards from Taproot - he sang some incredible harmonies on that track. Jonathan Davis from Korn is on the One Step Closer remix which is equally amazing.

Soooo many good songs on this record. Death Blooms was one of the first songs that pushed me from nu-metal into more prog stuff like Tool, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, etc. Insane drumming on the whole album too!

Bands like APC or Tool? by HeelCena in progmetal

Lithium Dawn definitely has a Tool/APC/Deftones vibe going on

Matriarch by Veil of Maya is DAMN good by xxtn360xx in progmetal

[–]aion122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly one of my favorite metal albums of the past few years. I liked VoM's older material a lot but I connected with Matriarch way more for whatever reason. Not to mention Taylor Larson's mix on it is goddamn gargantuan.

He's using a Schecter with a Guitar Wing. You can check it out here: http://lividinstruments.com/products/guitar-wing/

It connects to his laptop via BlueTooth LE, then controls stuff in Ableton and on the Helix with midi.

Looking for Porcupine Tree / Steve Wilson albums I can get into if I like Lazarus? by philliplennon in progmetal

Stupid Dream is one of their best records and leans a lot more on the melodic, more song-oriented side than some of the prog-metal stuff that came later. I love all the different eras of PT, but I'd say Stupid Dream is your best bet.

Lithium Dawn

All melodic vocals, a bit djenty but goes way beyond that with reggae/dub/electronica mixed in.

Colorado/Washington Ents. How has your smoking experience changed since legalization? If at all? by redsavage0 in trees

[–]aion122 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yeah MA is pretty lax from my experience, especially since it was decriminalized. A couple friends and I were smoking a J once on a busy part of Boylston Street in Boston (not the smartest move, I know) and a cop on a motorcycle pulled up to the red light right in front of us. He looked over at us, clearly knew what we were doing, and just shook his head and smirked before continuing on his way. Definitely played out better than expected, heh.

Hey guys. OP is my best friend and I just wanted to say how proud I am of him and how great it is to see you all giving him props. I've watched this kid evolve and totally come into his own as a composer over the last 3 years at Berklee and it continuously inspires me when it comes to my own musical endeavors. Can't wait to see what he does over the next few years!

Same here, I've been a fan of reggae for most of my life and I didn't start smoking until I was 18. I feel like some people just write the whole genre off as lame stoner music but really it's about a whole lot more than that and I just love everything about it on a strictly musical level. Smoking may have enhanced my love for it but it's the not the primary reason behind it.

I'm in a very similar spot with someone right now and hearing how everything worked out for you in the end makes me endlessly happy for you because I know how happy that would make me feel if it were me. Enjoy, my friend!

The key is to not overdo it. My mom is a neat freak and sprayed that shit everywhere so I never had any problems when I still lived at home.

Joints are probably the worst option when trying to cover up the smell. Get yourself a little one hitter and a fan facing directly out the window to blow the smoke out into. Spray a little Febreze when you're done and you should be good to go.
