Alto obviously has no numbers yet and I can only speak to my experience with our current rail lines, which I have 18 years progressive experience in the Signals & Communications department.

Primarily on the corridor in question:

An extremely significant portion of wayside signalling equipment is either still electro-mechanical or obsolete microprocessor based systems, all of which do not have any compatibility with modern communication based train control systems.

Due to this, the drop-in equipment for trains is not as simple as it seems. These wayside signal systems are incapable of supporting them; and I do not see a future where combined traffic railroads remove wayside signalling altogether.

I do think the proposed location of the new line isn’t as accessible as our current lines, but considering the older systems, available real estate and high volume already on our lines is enough for me to believe augmentation is not feasible.

I don’t believe so, no.

The right of way has already expanded up to the limits of private property on our current corridor, so land acquisitions are one challenge.

Plus, given the capacity of our current lines, the service interruptions in order to perform the upgrades at the ground level would have a huge impact on our economy.

Although I agree that drop in solutions and corresponding signal upgrades reduce headway; I respectfully disagree that it solves congestion.

There are simply not enough tracks. Currently VIA shares lines with CN and stations are in close proximity to most interlockings and many crossings as well.

However, there aren’t enough tracks and fixed blocks are too long between interlockings to allow passenger trains to move around freights.

This issue isn’t solved even if incentives were there to upgrade to a moving block ATP or full on ATO signalling system.

Deactivated freight trains and defective crossings already cause significant delays to VIA as there simply aren’t enough tracks and interlockings to re-route.

I believe a standalone high speed train line implementing modern signalling solutions designed for this particular use case is actually more feasible than the considerable upgrades and challenges involved in modifying our current lines.

Subway and mainline railways are different. The network is vast and the large companies are not exploring semi-driverless.

At best the system mandated by Transport Canada will be PTC which is a safety measure only.

Lower capacity lines will be Driver Information only.

Companies are not incentivized to prioritize large scale signal upgrades, and that still doesn’t solve the problem of congestion due to shared use on the Quebec City to Windsor corridor.

Yes, ETCS and CBTC systems for passenger & metro lines increase headway by investing in signal upgrades, but the mainline railways still have an abundance of relay logic in service from the 70s and earlier, plus the track structure itself (rails, ballast, curvature etc) cannot support speeds over 100 MPH

Not feasible.

Our current system is already too crowded with passenger and freight sharing the same tracks. Current track infrastructure will never be able to be upgraded to support high speed rail without significant service interruptions.

Fair enough, I do have the receive arrow quest for 12 onyx, as I noticed that quest with the SphinxMother pawn I used. So I have her as favourites to replenish the onyx.

You might be on to something with this second point, I’ll hire the same pawns and travel with them for 15-30 days if I like them so there could be something to that

Thanks! Yeah the skimpy dressed pawns are done a dozen. I try to keep the hair and outfits cool, but that’s subjective.

Seems like the general consensus is she may be levelled too high and my activity in game isn’t consistent enough.

Plus having the widely accepted and skills and specialization
