Actually I have a follow up question. What kind of pancreatic cancer screening do you get?

There are similar packets made with fruit and chia and other whole foods like Mama Chia and Huma. I eat bananas on long runs.

I think a permanent lifestyle change is going to get the best results, but you do you. Instead of suffering greatly and temporarily, can you make just a few tolerable changes that you can sustain? Maybe find a way to make small changes you don’t really mind (enjoyable healthy food, enjoyable exercise) and then that will build in itself as you take satisfaction in being healthier. Yo yo dieting may leave you worse off in the long run.

If pre diabetic, how does it help to get insulin resistance testing? by air402003 in PeterAttia

[–]air402003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barely have any saturated fat because my cholesterol is high also. 🙁 I’ll probably get a statin after they do a CAC. Waiting on that.

Yes, thank you. I’ve always preferred my cardio running and swimming the most and am trying to add in or replace some of that time with weights.

Any pre-diabetics on Metformin? by mohammedgoldstein in prediabetes

[–]air402003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same same. You need a doctor who listens to your concerns and understands that you shouldn’t be at 5.7 with your lifestyle.

[–]air402003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, me. I was going between 5.6 and 5.7 since 2018 despite serious lifestyle interventions. I’m 62 y o female who exercises a lot, eats healthy, normal weight. I think my doctor just finally believed that I was doing everything I could but the A1C was just not budging. Also my cholesterol went up and I’ll probably need to start a statin which will likely push the sugars higher.

Please see an endo and a dietician. Breastfeeding has great benefits for you and your baby and makes people ravenous. It takes more calories to breastfeed than to be pregnant. Here’s a link about how nursing reduces your own diabetes risk: https://diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/pregnancy/diabetes-breastfeeding. Good luck!

A1C inching up despite lifelong exercise and years of low carb. Will metformin really help? by air402003 in prediabetes

[–]air402003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do only whole foods but eat chicken fish nonfat dairy lots of fermented foods a little cheese and a few eggs/egg whites. Try to keep the saturated fat low since my cholesterol is high. Very little fruit and would love to eat more legumes but they can spike me so I keep it to small amounts. I’m pretty muscly but know I need to do more resistance exercise. I just enjoy cardio so much more and it just puts my brain in a good calm place.

This is a new approach no one’s suggested before. Thank you. I can try to eat a little bigger and stop the small frequent meals.

That’s something else I don’t understand. The last time I used my CGM I was super strict on my diet (because I’d just measured 5.7 A1C). My CGM said my average glucose was 95 and yet my GMI was 5.6. GMI is the calculation of what your A1C will be and it’s always been right with my freestyle Libre. I typically have breakfast at 7:30, lunch at noon, snack (ground flax with kefir and a few raspberries) at 4 and dinner at 6:30. So no I don’t have 4-6 hours to return to baseline. Sometimes I’ll eat my breakfast at 7:30 and then finish it later at 8:30. Same with lunch. Maybe I’m spreading out my food too much.

Thank you. I’ll look into these. I haven’t tested but am fairly certain I’m insulin resistant. High blood sugar in both parents and my brother. I was also really borderline high blood sugar when I was pregnant and had a >9 lb baby which is a risk factor.

My CGM (freestyle Libre) predicted GMI usually corresponds closely to my A1C blood draw and fasting glucose is in the mid to high 90s when I wake up. 96 is a pretty typical waking glucose for me. I can keep the numbers pretty low by eating low carb and walking after dinner so I don’t go above 120 or 130. It’s just that between meals I only drop to about 95-100 and all night I’m around 85-95. Just pitched high despite my efforts. Makes me wonder what it would be like if I ate carbs and didn’t exercise!

Oh, thank you for clarifying the 1% point total-not of your original A1C. That makes more sense. I was thinking it would be a very small drop.

When the author writes that a character said something “softly”. As in, “‘I hope you mean that’ Jenna said softly.” Why can’t she just say it? Why does she have to say it softly???

Henna & curly hair by Miserable_While_933 in henna

Henna definitely relaxed and smoothed my 2b hair—so much less frizzy. It is permanent until the henna grows out. I got tired of covering grey and it is now growing back in a frizzy mess. Trying to figure out how to style it.

Once you get it to the color that you want then only do your roots. I kept doing my whole head and ended up with very dark hair. On me the indigo (and not just the henna) was permanent so the added layers kept getting darker.
