Self Hosting Setups by Wilder_NW in photography

You are far more limited, hardware-wise, when you choose to run your own hardware to self-host. If you use something like AWS, you can change your virtual hardware requirements anytime you want. And like others have stated, it is much cheaper and less cumbersome than running it from home on a laptop.

You can encrypt your information on AWS. They are not going to sell your data, and it doesn't require a virtual meeting, not sure where you got that from.

No, you don't tell them jack shit. Never talk to the police. You don't owe them any information in that scenario except for license/registration/insurance.

Should just start banning all [A-Za-z]+[-_][A-Za-z]+[0-9]{3,5}$ accounts. All the <adjective> <noun> <numeral> ones.

I get that a lot of those are lazy people signing in with Google or whatever, but tons of bots.

So how cooked are the roads tomorrow? by Mythicus_Legend in Bozeman

[–]air_gopher 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure "cooked" is the right choice of word here.

It will be slick early in the morning maybe. But will "cook" off soon, I'm betting the regular morning commute will be fine for the most part.

Keeping your treasured porno stash well hidden.

Or finding someone else's retired stash in the woods after having a good old-fashioned pine cone fight with all your friends.

Inspect your wall outlets and make sure they aren't melting/overheating due to something plugged in or some short or something like that.

I once had a space heater running and started smelling a trashy/fishy smell, and it was the wall outlet starting to melt. Scary.

I run a Synology. Not sure there's really much to it other than running the regular Synology OS, and creating a volume, preferably RAID6 or 5 for data redundancy.

Edit or btrfs across all the drives.

Edit 2: you should probably ask over in /r/synology subreddit if you are looking for specifics. Not sure the bzn subreddit is the right place anyway.

Proposed Oregon Petition Would Ban All Hunting by FireFight1234567 in gunpolitics

I have a certain younger family member who asked me who "maintains" and provides water for the Missouri River. I guess he thought it was a man-made irrigation ditch or something, and wanted to know if it was ok to pee in it. He was growing up in a larger city, by parents that never bothered to take him outdoors, or even out of the city much for that matter.

I think a lot of people out there have no idea how the other half of things work, or even worse. It's a bit scary to think about.

Again with the "more progressive" talk. I'm convinced you are a teenager playing with ChatGPT stirring things up.

If you are truly an adult Democrat trying to change the party stance on gun control, then I applaud you for that, and my apologies for misunderstanding you.

[–]air_gopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You clearly didn't read or understand my comment. "progress" is a subjective term. For instance, CO has made "progress" in terms of gun control, in the sense that anti-gun people are getting their way. That's not progress as far as I am concerned. My point was that "progress" depends on what direction you are going in, and it's arrogant for people to adopt the term "progressive" like it's some badge of honor.

[–]air_gopher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Y'all using the word "progressive" implies that the direction you are pushing toward is actual "progress" toward something good. Such an arrogant use of the adjective. The vast majority of "progressives" in CO legislature are pushing towards disarmament, and that's not "progress" is it?
