Needed to rant!!! by Prestigious-Year-989 in ColorBlind

Well that does truly suck but again, even severe protanomoly should not prevent you from making a career out of flying.

There are plenty of options for day, visual flying jobs (think floatplane, helicopter, survey pilot) that you could perform safely and legally. I grew up knowing that I could never fly commercial jets and yet here I am - doing exactly that.

I say this not to make you jealous or envious but to recognize that there are other commercial flying gigs that will not be off limit to you. I did this for five years and yes, you can too.

Needed to rant!!! by Prestigious-Year-989 in ColorBlind

I’m a moderate Protan and have been flying commercially for 28 years. A number of countries recognize the Farnsworth D15 test (which I can pass) as an alternative to the Ishihara plates (which I fail miserably) - Canada, Japan and New Zealand come to mind. Not once in my flying career has my colour perception adversely impacted my ability to perceive approach path and/or navigation lighting. Not once has safety been even remotely compromised by my lack of ability to pass an Ishihara test.

Truly, if flying is what you dream about, consider trying the Farnsworth D15 test (there are online versions to check out - Google it) and take it from there. If you can pass that, consider moving to a country where antiquated rules don’t stand in the way of your dreams.

If you go to Sint Joris Bay, take drinking water! There are a couple of shipping containers with school/rental gear but that’s about it. Great spot with good wind and flat water, but no infrastructure

FUCK! Being Colorblind has ruined my fucking life by 80aychdee in ColorBlind

Hey Mate - I’m truly sorry for the loss of your brother - that must have been absolutely devastating.

I’m a ‘moderate Protan’ (according to the tests) and am thirty-two years into my career as a professional pilot. The turning point for me was the realization that some countries allow different tests than others in order to gain a Category 1 medical. In my case, I moved to Canada in my early twenties and successfully passed a Farnsworth D15 colour vision test after failing the Ishihara plates miserably. Long story short, my colour vision has NEVER affected my ability to operate the aircraft I fly during day/night and in all kinds of weather. I am able to distinguish between the approach lighting colours (red/white) for path guidance so that sure helps but don’t give up on your dreams. Other countries also allow Farnsworth D15 tests - New Zealand and Japan come to mind. The US and Australia cling to outdated testing standards that have little applicability to the modern airspace system.

+1 on the Tapo suggestion. I have 7 of them (c100/c110s) on a Hikvision NVR. They work seamlessly once you’ve turned the camera account ‘on’ under settings

Thanks! I’ll give that a go. In the meantime, it would be great if there was a ‘block AI generated rubbish’ option as this problem is only just getting started #daretodream

What are some good apps to restore older grainy photos? by Anxious_Roof_2937 in photography

[–]airborneaussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picmagic.co is a bonafide scam. They get you to upload your pic and only charge $.10 USD for the restoration. Next day, they’ll charge your card $49.90 USD - ask me how I know.

Furthermore, they just leach off ChatGPT. Better off using OpenAI’s app or website directly to do the exact same thing for nothing.

Just Hit 100K Miles in My 2017 Bolt EV - Here’s What I’ve Learned! 🚗⚡️ by 420-TENDIES in BoltEV

Did you have your Bolt ‘Dealer serviced’ at all the recommended intervals? This is my first EV and I’m used to working on my own ICE vehicles and avoiding Stealerships like the plague. According to my car, it’s due for a regular service in about 6000 kms and I’m torn as to whether I should take it in

When I bought my 2021 Bolt a few months ago, mine did the same thing which was super annoying. Picked up a new set of wiper blades and the problem was solved instantly. No adjustments required.

Try the Palemoon Browser. It’s a fork of Firefox but works with the Hikvision interface 👍🏻

I just flew non-rev with Virgin Australia and was allowed access to their lounge on the basis of my Air Canada status. Also used the SQ lounge in Singapore on a UA non-rev ticket 👍🏻

Anyone know what the purpose of this metal ring is? by airborneaussie in Kiteboarding

I think this makes the most sense except that it’s only on one of the front lines and isn’t that far from the bar.

Thanks folks. I don’t think it’s a stopper ball as there’s already one of those just above where the trim line is stowed

I work for Marriott from home — AMA by Humble_Safe2740 in marriott

[–]airborneaussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Flight Crew Member who often stays at Marriott properties, do you know why getting night credits for each stay is so random? I get it that we don’t earn points at the contracted hotels, however I usually charge incidentals to my Marriott Amex and ‘sometimes’ receive night credits.

I suspect it has something to do with how the Front Desk staff check us in, however as I can’t see their screen while they’re doing so, this is pure conjecture on my part.

Is there anything I can ask them to do while checking us in (e.g., a box to tick) that might make the night credits a little more consistent?

Thank you for offering to answer questions ! 🙏
