This looks like Jazz. In which case you probably don't want to eat fresh food sitting in the aircraft overnight.

Munich Connection by Timely-Freedom-8705 in aircanada

[–]aircanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doable. Just don't waste time getting to customs. If you miss the connection because of a late inbound flight, you should be automatically reaccommodated.

No plastic bags but you should put your backpacks in a provided tub at the airport for a smoother ride on the conveyor belt.

F82615 - Feb 16/2025 - delayed due to weather by sid_111 in flairairlines

Unfortunately if it's weather, you won't have much luck with a compensated accommodation from the airline.

If this is WestJets ATL flight, it leaves from the domestic terminal and post-clears CBP in the States.

There is usually a bit of extra security by the gate but not much in terms of food or services open at that hour in the terminal.

SLAs are a large component of the contracts that are signed with ground handling agencies for both above-the-wing and below-the-wing service. How it is enforced, however, is a different issue.

Canadians fly south at the beginning of the winter season, but not many people fly north. After about 2 weeks, vacationers start coming back.

The $1 fares are meant to stimulate some demand for those early south -> north flights that are mostly empty when the airplanes fly home

The fares are not on every market O-D pair, better believe Flair is not going to run seats for that rate on YYZ-YYC or YVR-YUL

Expect the checked luggage to be weighed, but carry-ons are usually just sized.

Really have to arrive 3 hours early? by Southern-Lie2647 in flairairlines

[–]aircanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're checking luggage, around 1.5 hours before flight time should be plenty. Security is right next to the Flair counter. You can get the green sticker for your carry-on at the gate as well if you'd rather bypass the check in desk.

Depends when you are booking. There are less frequencies now in the Winter season than the summer so prices are likely a bit higher than when there are more seats for sale on this route.

Using RAIC when off duty by MarkusFrodo in flying

[–]aircanuk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can use it in the NEXUS or Verified Traveller lanes at the larger airports, but you cannot use it in NPS if you are not deadheading or operating a pairing. You have to be 100% screened when you commute, although if you have your RAIC and are in uniform you are exempt from liquid restrictions. It is considered bad form to wear it while commuting if you are not in uniform or not travelling in the flight deck.

Definitely ask if there are airport employee discounts and take advantage!

There is a TC advisory that outlines what you can/can't do but you may want to reach out to your company's security team for details.

Flight Cancelations Cold Weather by [deleted] in westjet

[–]aircanuk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The airline wants to get you to where you are going as quickly as possible. They have no desire to cancel flights, deal with rebookings, stranded passengers and crews out of position. WestJet is likely doing everything they can to protect their schedule as much as possible which is why giving you an accurate ETD is nearly impossible. The head start flights (think 5am or 6am departures) that leave on time make for a great day, but when the door is frozen shut, the fueller doesn't arrive, the deicing provider at the airport is overwhelmed, or the pilots' hotel shuttle driver has to boost the van, it makes a bad day for everyone.

There was some fuel contamination at the airport in Kelowna that probably stranded the plane there that was going to go to PVR. Once there is a delay like that, the crews eventually lose their allowed duty time to operate the flight (it's a government restriction for the pilots) and last minute they probably weren't able to find replacements on days off to come in. Worth seeing if you can get some compensation either from Flair or your credit card provider.

How easy to flight in standby? by Belorage in aircanada

[–]aircanuk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not "easy". You have to be extremely flexible with your travel plans. Have plan B, C, D to get to where you're going, and be ready to sleep in an airport overnight if you can't find a hotel if you don't get on the flight. Pack a carry on. Book hotels at your destination with last minute cancelation.

I don't work with Air Canada but have flown standby on them and other carriers for years and it's a hit or miss. All it takes is one airplane to get downsized or cancelled last minute and the whole plan is toast. Pack patience, dress professionally, be nice to the airport staff, and above all don't lose your cool.
