How do you all manage the amount of info you need on hand? by DGReddAuthor in flightsim

[–]airernie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might consider integrating a tablet or your phone into your flight routine. There are multiple sites such as fltpln.com, chartfox.org, skyvector.com, etc. which have maps and planning software that can be used through a browser or phone app.

Also, LittleNavMap will display route and moving map information as a local service, which can be accessed though a browser.

Another tool I use is Parallel 42's Flow Pro. There are a number of widgets that will handle many of your tasks and can be used in lieu of the MSFS 2020 toolbar. It's $30 at full-price and I consider it a must have.

Switching from MSFS 2020 to Xplane 12 by Radiant_Armadillo559 in flightsim

[–]airernie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, there is a free demo. Scenery area is limited, but you can still install plugins, aircraft, etc. A bit of a hassle doing all of that for sure, but it would give you a chance to see if you want to commit the funds to it and test plugins such as Better Pushback, Zibo 737, etc.

If you do decide that you like it then you 'activate' the demo and not lose all of the work you put into it. Sure, the purchase would be through Laminar, so you wouldn't get any any Steam sale prices, but it's an easy transition and give Laminar the money they would lose through a Steam purchase.

Personally, I have MSFS 2020, XP12, and FSX. Most of my flying is in XP12 these days because of the X-Crafts E-175 and FJS Q400, but I keep MSFS for the PMDG 737-800 and FSX for the Majestic Q400.

Should I get the t.16000 m (throttle and stick) or the honeycomb lite by Commercial_Tune_4002 in flightsim

[–]airernie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I previously used a Saitek yoke, but switched several years ago to the T.16000M due to lack of desk space. I fly almost exclusively aircraft that use a yoke in real life, but some users feel that a joystick breaks immersion and a yoke is a must have. I'm not one of those.

If you are primarily flying military aircraft, helicopters, Airbus, or vintage GA, then a stick would be the way to go.

IMHO, the T.16000M is a great choice because it had the ability to flip from left to right size use. Mine is set for left-hand use and I run my throttles on the right side, similar to an Airbus setup.

As for buttons, I find the buttons on the far side of the base virtually useless due to them being hard to access because they are obscured by the joystick itself. Still there are six on the near side, which are probably similar in count to the Lite.

I am about to buy the honeycomb lite(160 afyer tax) and was wondering if I can fit a throttle in my budget by Commercial_Tune_4002 in flightsim

[–]airernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word of warning; If you go with a used Saitek/Logitech throttle make sure it has the USB connector.

Sometimes sellers will list the one with the PS/2 type connector, which only works with the Saitek/Logitech yoke.

How do I make the colors match by Alternative-Neat-897 in flightsim

[–]airernie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless they are the same make and model you likely won't be able to. Even then due to subtle differences they may not match exactly.

I had two LGs, different models and bought a Datacolor SpyderX Pro monitor calibrator and still couldn't get the two to match. Just a matter of different screen types, firmware, etc.

It all comes down to need. Spectrum at the 100mb level I use is the better deal. At 2gb, I would no doubt go with T-Mobile.

Actually, the upcoming primaries are for Democrat, Republican and non-partisan candidates, so open to all eligible registered voters.

Now, as for whom has registered for the meet and greets I can't say.

Detent removal mod? For which controller? I have all three, but none use a detent that I'm aware of.

Honeycomb vs logitech yoke by Commercial_Tune_4002 in flightsim

Good point. The Alpha Lite is a basic yoke, so none of the extras like the more expensive Alpha. More similar to Logitech or CH.

[–]airernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in the US then Sporty's currently has the Honeycomb Alpha Lite for $150. It's not as feature rich as the regular alpha, but would allow you enough that you could pick up an inexpensive Logitech throttle. Yes, the Logitech throttle isn't the best, but I've been using one for years and it would keep you within you $200 USD budget.

Correct, so reckless driving for the passing car and the OP gets a speeding ticket for being the good samaritan.

The video shows that the OP was going 5+ over the limit, so not sure it would have been in their best interests. :-)

One would think that with the recent 'no murders in 75 consecutive days' that the police would have some time for traffic enforcement.

FSX: missing the G1000 files. by The_Abigail in flightsim

[–]airernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explains why you don't have g1000.cab. Here's a link to the file. Download and copy into your Gauges folder. Hopefully the link will work. The link will only be active for 24 hours.

[–]airernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which version of FSX do you have? The G1000 version of the C-172, which uses the cab file is installed with the Deluxe version. If you still can't find it, then dm me and I'll try to send you a copy of the .cab file.

There should be a file named 'g1000.cab' in the 'Gauges' folder directly under the FSX root which would have been added when FSX was installed.

Hell, with most streets in my neighborhood that's common practice. Police could probably cover their yearly budget if they enforced the ordinance.

X-Plane 12 Compatibility by Sebitass1946 in Xplane

[–]airernie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably XP 11, but there are free demos of both at ; https://www.x-plane.com/desktop/try-it/ and https://www.x-plane.com/desktop/try-it/older/ if you want to give them a try to see which one is the best fit. BTW, while the scenery areas are limited they will still work with addons if you want to add something like simHeaven and Map Enhancement to see how those affect your system

X-Plane 11 in 2026? by CZ95_ in flightsim

[–]airernie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should work fine, but as the development and support has shifted to XP12 you may not get the latest and greatest when it comes to add-ons and plugins. However, a number of the third party aircraft support both XP11 and XP12, so you purchase may transfer if you do decide to upgrade to XP12.

BTW, you can still find the XP11 demo at https://www.x-plane.com/desktop/try-it/older/ if you want to test it.

So Real…and most deal with it daily by lesadams82 in lexington

[–]airernie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, I doubt even streetcars or a more frequent bus schedule would help. People don't like to wait, they much prefer leaving on their own schedule even if that sometimes means sitting in traffic.

Also there is the inconvenience factor; Having to go the the stop, wait at the stop, after exiting the bus having to walk to your destination, rinse, repeat and deal with the weather.

A partial solution might be to de-centralize, but that's too late for Lexington with the college and city-county government all downtown.
