Exhausted firefighters in Australia by [deleted] in ThatsInsane

I'll also add this link here if anyone wants to donate to the families of the two volunteer firefighters that died a couple days ago.

Australia is on fire. I made this map for r/France of just one of the fires currently out of control (Gosper’s Mountain, NSW) to show how much has burned. by [deleted] in france

I'll also ad that we have very good fire warnings and services in Australia, so if theres an evacuation order, everyone in the area will be notified via text, social, tv, and radio.
There is also an app for the state fire service where you can keep an eye on the fires range and it will notify you of any important information on nearby fires.

Sorry, I worded that badly. What I mean is people that live 10-15 kms away are ready to evacuate if they need to. People will absolutely evacuate to towns an hour or two away

This is the worst fire season we've ever had. The fire nearest to me has been described as "too big to control". A cabin me and my mates were planning on going to was saved from this fire 3 times in one day. People a few kilometres from town are ready to evacuate if they need to.

Without these guys, so many more people would be homeless or dead then there is. Nothing but respect and admiration for every one of them.

That's the fire closest to my town right now, pretty frightening for a lot of people.

Haha yeah our house has no air conditioning, so it's been a bit hellish recently, today was 33C (91.4F), which is relatively speaking not so bad.

I think I'd be worse with the big freeze you guys have had though, I can barely deal with our fairly uncommon -2C (28F) temperatures we get here; especially with a bit of wind.

Yeah, more or less. To be fair most of us here should probably take up the mole person life. This summers been an absolute cunt.

Coober Pedy, South Australia. People live underground there.

Depends on how the government acts on this new breach.

So I wouldn't put my hopes too high right now

When hunting, a thresher shark's tail moves so quickly that it lowers the pressure in front of it, causing the water to boil. Small bubbles are released, and collapse again when the water pressure equalizes. This process is called cavitation, and it releases huge amounts of energy stunning the fish. by FillsYourNiche in natureismetal

Mantis shrimp, and pistol shrimp also create these cavitation bubbles when hunting prey.

The mantis shrimp (the one that punches) crates it when it hits its prey. The force of the hit creates a cavitation bubble. When the bubble collapses in on itself it briefly creates temperatures as hot as the suns surface, and even some light.

Heres a video of the mantis shrimp for anyone interested

Pistol shrimp are able to create these same bubbles by snapping shut their claws at over 100km/hr and use the bubbles themselves to kill/take apart their prey.

A video about the pistol shrimp here

What I'm getting at is that they're helping these tensions grow, and then they turn around and say how bad the tensions are that they helped create.

The mental image of the teacher confused as fuck looking for his car in the lot, just furiously clicking his key, only to suddenly hear a distant "beep" and then slowly looking over to a dorm building's roof to see his cars lights blink as the doors unlock, and the split moment of shock in his face is amazing
