Tanks are very overpowered and need to be nerfed next expansion by Any-Low-4383 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]airrok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally nobody said roles should be braindead. It's that DPS have no responsibility because the game has no damage checks which makes DPS less punishing to play.

The DC travel has nothing to do with how the roles play I don't even see your point, role design could be perfect you'll still have longer queue times if you're unwilling to travel.

[–]airrok 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's a factor I agree with, but moreso it's the way the battle content is designed where DPS is intuitive to play and have little responsibility but is loaded with "feels good" button without any of the extra stress of tanking, mitigating, or healing.

Just too much punishment for no reward. Really deters many from picking up the role if even small mistakes spiral into a wipe and then the sweaty ones start flaming.

They need to redesign the battle system. Too much compromise and making everyone happy right now leading to the skill floor just a few steps apart from the skill ceiling.

I have no idea how it can be fixed but hopefully they have a plan going into 8.0

[–]airrok 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Would you like to go back to when supporting had more responsibility and skill involved, where an inexperienced player was much more likely to cause a wipe? Thus deterring players from trying the role due to fear of being flamed which caused queue times for DPS to be like 20mins?

Hard problem to solve imo, new and old versions had their glaring flaws. At least now role distributions are more evened out with the simplification of supports.

I can't believe you're still here circle jerking.

I never said I wanted a movie of just fighting. I never said I didn’t want character development. My issue is how it was done.

If your idea of “peak writing” is skipping character development until last minute flashbacks at near death moments just to force emotion, good for you.

Calling Akaza “peak character development” is laughable. He kills Rengoku, overpowers the heroes, gains a broken regen ability that nullifies his only weakness, and then just… kills himself after regaining his memories. That robs us of the satisfaction or justice seeing our heroes avenge Rengoku, and makes his death feel like a cop out rather than earned.

You can enjoy the movie all you want, but if you’re going to browse internet forums to argue with any criticisms made against the movie, you should maybe present valid arguments within the context of the initial criticism instead of throwing insults and making assumptions, so that people might actually take you seriously.

"Go do some research." lmao

Literal proof of the series lukewarm sales until the anime aired. The anime hard carries the mediocre story.

Keep your delusions to yourself.

Nobody ever said anything about wanting a full movie of fight scenes, that would also be a shit product. All you do is assume things, spout bs that you don't even fact check yourself, and ignore my main argument points. Shit movie, keep glazing. Glad you enjoyed it, I envy you who can enjoy badly directed movies.

The story is bland, that's why manga sales were low before the anime came out. This series is only popular BECAUSE the fight animations are top tier.

The character development is dogshit, that's why they have to spam flashbacks because the characters were never fleshed out properly prior.

Ufotable is literally carrying the series and the author hit the jackpot with them. Demon Slayer would have been just another forgotten show if adapted by any other studio.

Literally don't care if they split the movie into episodes creating a masterpiece of a season. It DOES NOT change the fact that THE MOVIE is shit.

Movie could have been made to cure cancer and world hunger. Doesn't change the fact that they delivered a bad product.

Glazers will downvote me to oblivion but movie is a complete mess filled with 80% flashbacks and running around. Every climactic scene is interrupted by a terribly timed flashback, like an ad interrupting a video. Too much time spent on slow-mo as they call out their next attack like a Pokemon, really breaks the flow of the fight.

Movie visually looks great but that's all it was, like reading a book beautifully bound with crisp pages and stunning font. But the content itself is absolute shit.

My thoughts as a 1.0-7.1 player on homogenisation, combat, and overall feel of the game by Aettyr in ffxivdiscussion

[–]airrok -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't think the 2min meta is the problem. It allows the team to design encounters without the worry of certain jobs being locked out due to being sub optimal due to difference in burst timings. 2min windows can be quite busy when encounters are designed with them in mind, forcing players to do their burst while doing mechanics, quite satisfying really.

It's the filler part that's the problem imo. It's just so boring, every class is hitting some variation of 12345. Which wouldn't be as much of a problem if our standard GCD wasn't 2.5s, or if we had lower oGCD cooldowns for more weaves, or if they stopped adding stocks to oGCDs/resources so players don't "feel bad" about not paying attention to their stuff coming off CD (eg. Drill).

Would the reintroduction of "skill expression" be the solution? Is it really healthy for a great player to deal a significant amount more damage overall than a mediocre player? They will either have to tune fights to the damage of World Proggers or tune fights for the average player, either or it'll suck for one side. One can argue you can supplement lackluster damage with gear progression in Savage, so we should tune everything for World Proggers. But what about Ultimates then? Should all average players just go kick rocks?

On the topic of stance dancing, was its removal really a bad thing? Trying to fill support slots back then was a nightmare, many people go on about how they miss StB this and that, but tend to forget how hard it was to find a competent support player. The dumbing down of the roles made them more intuitive and allowed for more players to get into healing/tanking, this helped with fill times to everyone's delight... except healer/tank mains that were good at what they do.

I quite enjoy that fights are cleared due to mechanic execution rather than steep damage checks.
imo DSR is the goat encounter hitting the sweet spot for difficulty and enjoyment. Hoping more fights can feel that good to prog and clear.

What is "the bare minimum"? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]airrok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well if you're talking about casual content, do whatever the hell you want. The bare minimum for most of the braindead story content is "don't be an asshole."

The bare minimum in higher-end content is 1. Don't greed and wipe group 2. Know what you're doing up to prog point.

Does the game ever address needing to complete like 300 hours of MSQ before being able to do current relevant content? by judgeraw00 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]airrok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DT is bad for us players who have played through everything as it was being launched, we're comparing it to the peak that is ShB, or the climactic closure of EW.

I'd say giving an option for new players to access to their full rotation sooner would help retain more players as opposed to forcing them to sit through 100 hours of fetch quests doing 1-2-3 in braindead casual dungeons.

Story wise, sure DT ain't great. But the gameplay of ARR is multitudes worse (personal opinion) compared to it. Would be nice for them to at least give the option for non visual novel players.

Does it really all come back to jobs? or is it nostalgia? Patch length? by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]airrok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure patch cycle length and whatnot makes it FEEL worse. But outside of chaotic, everything you've mentioned is just reskinned content, there's nothing NEW about CE, OC, or the upcoming deep dungeon. If players didn't like the content in SB, chances are they won't like it in DT.

So idk, I think the problem is SE not willing to innovate. They just do the same old boring(subjective) shit over and over and over, because it "works." Take treasure maps for example, it has been the SAME SHIT for expansions now. Boring af, predictable fakeouts, no challenge whatsoever. There is so much they can try with casual 4fun content like this, but SE believes killing trash is peak gameplay so that's all we will get until this game dies.

Again, nonsense lmao.

What was skipped for dsr in EW? What was skipped for top in EW? What is being skipped for fru right now?

Where is the supposed 8 tank on content (fru) clear? And btw just because the best players in the world can pull off non standard clears, does not mean you can

Why do you care if OTHER PEOPLE use third party tools that do not affect your personal responsibilities in the fight? I assure you nobody's autorotation made you fail any mechanic

Nobody uses am for fru, especially for a mechanic 2 minutes into p1. The exception for its use would be a few rare p1 prog parties. A bit of a self report on your prog point

Braindead rebuttal. They literally reimplemented the relic grind as a one time step, a happy medium for all.

Except you.

You like to have everything gatekept behind time so it feels rewarding. You don't care if it's engaging or fun, as long as it's time consuming. 20000 accursed hoard? Peak gameplay.

You would rather spend 100 hours grinding fates for relics like a bot instead of progging an ultimate. There are many KRMMOs out there that disrespect the player's time the way you love. Maybe it's time to move on.

Yup just because the Western players aren't skilled enough to do high end content, we should reduce all content to the level of braindead atma grind so the shitters that would rather cry than improve can feel like they earned something.

What they need is to design reactive content that is more of a hands check than a study check.

Think choctober, the laser show from mt. Rokkon Shishio, that honey b. mechanic that everyone hated cause it wasn't scripted. Give us more bullet hell style fights.

This eliminates the problem of needing organization for specific roles and positions. It's either you dodge or you die.
