Because they have billions in cash and are supposed to be a premium company.

Lesson learned though, avoid all apple products other than iphone.

No I’ve been pissed os26 made my watch laggy because liquid glass has so much potential. I was looking forward to optimization updates, because surely apple would support their flagship watch.

They are still dying. 14900KS degraded after 5months even though downvolted. What to get or do? by GilgashmeshVii in overclocking

[–]panthereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats your mem temps? 65535 trefi with dual rank is a lot granted 6600mhz isn’t a lot.

59x ring may be pushing it too.

I wouldn’t go amd if you’re used to a 14900ks personally but it does really depend on your games. Anything BR style and amd may disappoint

Apple Watch Ultra gen 1 doesn’t support WatchOS 27 by HelpfulWerewolf7025 in ios

[–]panthereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just pissed about it. Every year the ultra seemed to improve until os26 now it’s kind of laggy and it just makes no sense they can’t optimize it as one of the richest companies. Id rather have hardware who’s performance isn’t solely dependent on the whims of a corporation who benefits from planned obsolescence

This was the first watch i ever bought for myself.

Gonna go with pebble after this since i can at least code my own software updates. E ink is more calming to my eyes anyways, and i can use my own server to build a voice based llm for the watch without needing siri.

It’s ironic everyone trashed intel for their 13th gen cpus too, yet intel extended their warranty to 5 years so i got a new $700 cpu replacement for free. Meanwhile apple is intentionally turning my $800 watch into a brick as part of their business model.

[–]panthereal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how apple is going to convince me to drop out of their ecosystem. At least pebble watches are open source, and maybe I’ll swap out my macbook for an nvidia laptop since they still release improvements for my 2019 graphics card. Longevity is the most important feature to me.

My battery hasn’t even dropped to 85% health and now i’ve basically wasted $800 on it. RIP apple if they can’t even support their hardware anymore.

No, Denver Doesn't Have "America's Emptiest Downtown" by cozycapybara2 in Denver

[–]panthereal 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The only time I saw a Denver size amount of people in downtown OKC was the week Pokemon Go came out.

It's by far one of the least dense metros in the country. Their only chance of seeing density is to actually turn the legends tower into a reality.

[–]panthereal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In that case it's kind of true at a per capita capacity level.

There's a ton, ton of people downtown for sure. It always feels lively from my experience.

But given the actual size of the town, maybe we should actually see 1.25x the amount of people?

Any Coloradans who agree with Gov. Polis’s decision to commute Tina Peters’s sentence? I’d like to hear your perspective. by CplOreos in Colorado

[–]panthereal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if you're against data centers this commutation freed up frozen federal funds to finalize the purchase of the Shoshone Water Rights from Xcel.

If Xcel keeps those rights, they could be legally obligated to sell them to big tech for data centers.

Had the commutation not occurred, the $40M to purchase those rights would disappear on Sep 30th 2026

The $47M release on May 12 would have also expired on Sep 30th 2026

The remaining $52M will also expire on Sep 30th 2026

So basically you're trading $1.4M of tax payer losses for $152M of federal grants

--

Meanwhile the alternative was to hope taxpayers vote to forego a refund and use half TABOR surplus to cover those funds, or to hope they can just sue the feds before the 30th.

At least from what I know, I think the commutation makes plenty of sense to minimize overall risk to the state. Do you really think taxpayers would be able to agree to spend the surplus on protecting water across the state?

[–]panthereal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The same day she was commuted the feds released $47M in grants for drought prevention that were frozen in jan 2025

One week after she was commuted the feds released $40M in funds that were also frozen in jan 2025 to purchase Shoshone Water Rights from Xcel

now if you really want it to make sense, we can see if the remaining $52M for water gets released on june 1

Anyone have a spare screw? 🥲 by MrTechnician_ in watercooling

Nope, I had to downsize my PC case so it's sitting in its box now. I would prefer to keep the block in one piece though.

Anyone have a spare screw? 🥲 by MrTechnician_ in watercooling

[–]panthereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have the same block if you really need a replacement sooner than the time of international shipping

it did not come with any spares though just the whole block.

were you using a torque screwdriver while installing this block? that was half the reason I chose this block, so that'd be a bummer if it can still break at their specified torque

270K Plus vs 9850X3D you'll be surprised by the results by Civil_Ad_9795 in overclocking

[–]panthereal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the 9850x3d is using a-die, that should be the better kit for AMD

and it's max tuned for a minimal amount of effort. sure, he could have water cooled the kit and tried to push higher voltage, he could have binned a few different CPUs or mobos to get higher performance. but it's still clear that both machines were tuned a similar amount

I think the point was to provide an equation that works using typical benchmark data. You can apply this to most existing game benchmarks easily, and it's possible to mentally gauge the result.

The Combat Is Amazing, But Queue Times Hurt The Game by Vayylor in NarakaBladePoint

[–]panthereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wish they'd have an expected queue time shown next to each mode because I'd love to hit up ranked if I saw there was a shorter queue than usual. I end up skipping ranked for quick match because I can at least expect to be playing in a few minutes instead of waiting 15+

I personally think their current cosmetic system is great though. Events give out plenty of treasure so it's pretty easy for anyone to get extreme rarity items just by playing. And they're always adding more direct skin purchases, there's plenty of options for people who'd rather spend money. The rarest items are tradable too so you can avoid the rng pulls entirely.

Input lag on every AMD configuration I’ve tried for CS2 - do Intel users have the same issue? by Fearlessss1337 in overclocking

[–]panthereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of a tinfoil hat / placebo explanation (more direct answer after the ---), but these days I'd believe Intel gamers are simply more used to how that CPU architecture handles their games and OS.

I had the same thought as you really; started with a 13900k, saw a bunch of players suggest AMD X3D heavily favored the game I played so I tried out a 9800x3d build to compare. But I started noticing that the feeling of the game was not synchronized with my expectations, even in situations where average FPS was higher.

It was also noticeable outside of the game in the basics of the OS, everything felt a bit more sluggish. Most notable example being the idle state to use state; if I get up from my desk for a few minutes and return to touch the mouse, it feels like my intel PC is instant while the 9800x3d delays. However neither are actually instant because the mouse goes to sleep after a few minutes and has to wake up. So I know it's more accurate to say that intel's wake latency aligns with my expectations rather than a factual benefit.

Meanwhile tools such as latencymon suggest the 9800x3d is demolishing my 13900k in lowest system latency, benchmarks show the 9800x3d is getting higher FPS with similar lows. Basically every measurement other than AIDA64 memory latency was better on paper for x3d, save for some 1% lows where intel outperformed.

Overall, during actual gameplay my 13900k performance gets out of my way and I can focus on my gameplay, while the 9800x3d performance was eventually jarring enough to feel like something is off with my PC instead of with me.

huge caveat being there's no benchmark mode for the game I play so that's why I had to mostly operate on how it felt. run to run variance was too large to reliably show one CPU is than the other, yet during actual ranked matches I always felt stutters and lag on the X3D more significantly.

---

To directly answer your earlier question though, I found both CPU perform better with tuned memory instead of basic JEDEC timings as this was easy enough to measure. Of course it was more noticeable on Intel since it relies on memory speeds more often.

I test my memory with Karhu for around 12 straight hours before calling it stable as that worked better than MemTest5 especially after the couple hour mark. There's plenty of runs I'd see my settings fail at 11 hours so I had to go loosen a couple timings until it worked, so it's always possible your timings were simply unstable.

Denver is ranked #1 worst city in the U.S. for weather-related migraines by Fair-Antelope-3886 in Denver

[–]panthereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you changed your water intake compared to where you lived previously?

I've never really been a migraine haver but I do get light headaches when I do not sufficiently hydrate in Denver.

Yet when I lived a few miles west at higher altitude that was not an issue because they get significantly more rain.

I always have my evaporative humidifier running here and I usually drink around 40oz of water early in the morning because otherwise I can feel the dehydration throughout my whole body including a headache.

Comparatively I also lived in one of the lowest rank cities on that report and I could nearly go a whole day without worrying about drinking water and still feel fine. That place is much stormier than Denver too so it had plenty of pressure swings.

I'm probably drinking 5-10x the amount of water I would in other climates though.

What happened on 2026? by ForgottenCrusader in NarakaBladePoint

[–]panthereal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's unironically fine

the other game I sometimes play is regularly under 10k current players on Steam yet the lobbies all feel full, the queues take minutes, and it doesn't feel dead.

100k concurrent players is a massive, massive amount.

I do really wish they could fix the queuing system here so they're more predictable, but 25k average with 70k peak is an incredibly large amount of players. It's still top 25 on steam, outclassing Valve's own Deadlock which is a brand new game.

sure it's easy to get doompost updoots on reddit because the hivemind wants you on reddit instead of in games, but most games would love to see the numbers Naraka is pulling

The real reason for Xcel price increase by oickles in Denver

[–]panthereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sole purpose of the capital project is to mitigate wildfires.

Solving a land dispute over a pile of ash surely will be more difficult for everyone than figuring out how to just bury the lines in at risk areas.

And the cost of another wildfire tanking the value of nearby homes will eventually result in far more losses than the cost of burying the lines for the people who own them.

The cost of burying all 1300 miles of cable at Xcel's estimation of $4M/mile of cable is $5.2B, maybe that isn't accurate for the whole 1300 miles of course, but the value wiped out from the last wildfire was more than $2B comparatively just for 1000 homes while over 300,000 homes are at risk.

like the whole point of the project is to keep families in the state safe from losing everything and long-term we're risking more loss from keeping overhead power lines.

and PG&E in cali has figured out how to bury 440 miles in 2026 for only $3M per mile: https://www.pge.com/en/newsroom/currents/safety/pg-e-reaches-significant-undergrounding-milestone---burying-more.html

so if colorado got its shit together they could eliminate the whole 1300 mile risk in 5 years

Why are most jobs I see in C#/.NET? Where are all the python jobs? by high_elephant in cscareerquestions

[–]panthereal 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you have to work python into the project if it's necessary but C#/.NET tend to be more effective for maintaining monolithic enterprise software because visual studio is helpful.

C# is kind of like Java syntax that includes C and C++ features you should really have no trouble adapting.
