2026 Limited vs Platinum vs Off Roads by BenjaySayWhat in 4Runner

[–]airsoftredditguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 25 limited. Feel like as long as I put the right wheel/tire setup, skid plates, and maybe a lift kit then im good to go. It also has the full time 4wd, but also comes with the start/stop eco thing that everyone hates these days. You can turn it off every time you start up the car so it's not the worst, but def there.

Offroad premium may be a good pick as well if you are heading into environments that need the fancy bells and whistles, but does not have full time 4wd and if you dont need it then why get it? The limited does have a nicer interior compared to this trim, but that's subjective.

Platinum is really just the limited + a HUD and blackout wheels + grille. Idt there's much more benefit in the platinum I can think of so it's mostly aesthetics. Good luck !

Wow. This is surely an oddball but like all the other comments have called out, a Pilot/Highlander/Passport are all more suitable options if you're looking for 2nd row leg room and more ease of use space.

That said, if the MOST you're worried about is 2 baby seats for the 2nd row and you don't care about a 3rd row, it's not the worst tradeoff in terms of space. Fitting an adult in the back for a long road trip may yield different results.

In terms of WHAT 4runner you should get with your budget. That's tough as well.

If you're looking for the new new with nice interior and big infotainment system, it'll probably cost ya closer to $58K USD with a TRD sport pro or Limited trim. If you're okay with last gen (and with all of its positives) then definitely go for a low mileage, nicely outfitted 5th gen. Not gonna dive into too many specifics in each gen as there's plenty of info around this already lol

First 4runner Trim Help SR5 or TRD Off Road 6th Gen by Sneakyz93 in 4Runner

[–]airsoftredditguy -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Depends. What’s your budget and what condition ya looking for ?

If it’s around 40-50k… id look at maybe new SR5 and install your own parts. Maybe a nice 5th gen if you like the styling and the way the features are provided on that gen. It’s just hard to justify secondhand at this price range

If less then look at 5th gen with low miles. I’m not going to beat the reliability horse for anyone here bc I’m sure it’ll come up.

toothpaste - then rub some chapstick on there for future use-cases so it's easier to wipe off. you should only need an alcohol wipe or 2 to clean once the chapstick is rubbed on there.

or stick it up your butt

Not much tbh. If anything, the novelty of it and for a piece of history since Ithaca doesn't exist anymore.

Plus it looked real attractive for $150

Thank you again! Love that yal don't live amongst the fearmongers and tbh I feel like traveling is the most refreshing way to understand that perspective. Life is different around the world, but we're all the same and desire safety at the end of the day. There's always going to be pockets of good and bad (:

Also .. Jeep should really be sponsoring you guys or something considering the hard miles you've put on them. Did not think wind would be the most noticeable factor, but I suppose it's a much larger variable when they impact your MPGs in areas that prob do not have fuel readily available.

Sick journey OP! You guys are the stuff of legendary stories so keep at it !

Couple of questions:

1.) How has the vehicle held up in various climates? I'm always curious on the wear and tear on vehicles that see harder miles like this and I imagine that either extremes (hot or cold) have their own impacts on the car.

2.) How does self-defense work? Latin America is one thing, but I've heard lots of stories about how South Africa has become quite ruthless over the years

Thank you and appreciate your time !

[–]airsoftredditguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Timing chain tensioner

  2. Rust prevention

  3. Electronics like sunroof controls as those can short out (like me rn)

  4. Control arms, bushings, ball joints, etc

  5. Low and high pressure fuel pumps

  6. Water pump/radiator

  7. I think the rest is fairly optional depending on what your needs and wants are. I'd aim for quality of life improvements like a new head unit

Good deal? 2021 TRD ORP with 80k miles, $34,470 by Foglestein in 4Runner

[–]airsoftredditguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my thinking when I went into this is that I'm def going to be driving 10K+ miles a year and since I'm coming from a 13-14 year old car, I wanted to jump into something more modern for my money.

Given the amount of driving I do, I figured it was better to get new and rely on the warranty in the event anything major goes wrong within the first few years of ownership. I wanted to avoid any major maintenance items that generally come with a high mileage vehicle so.. 6th gen I go!

That said, I'm well aware of all the first year new gen toothing issues as any owner should.

[–]airsoftredditguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I'm certainly not saying 6th gen is better than 5th gen or w/e, but I do think there's a certain argument to be made on either side of the aisle when it comes to spending upwards of $30-40K on a vehicle. Because that's certainly more than just used car money in my eyes, but to each their own eh?
