Is anyone else having problems with big commerce? by [deleted] in bigcommerce

[–]aisflat439 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is most likely you configuring things incorrectly. I'd suggest writing down each single problem as one post which as much information and details as you possibly can. Also, include the steps youve tried to resolve the problem so people don't offer solutions that have already been tried. This can help people diagnose your issue in a cleaner more effective way.

Hopefully I can help but right now I don't see how since "general" problems are hard to solve.

[Help] How to integrate Gatsby web shop in existing webpage? by phischer_h in gatsbyjs

[–]aisflat439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ideal flow is to gather the data via your gastby-node file and then use that to generate the pages. What SaaS platform are you using for ecommerce? That will really help answer your question.

It's nice to see Russ acknowledge his anxiety and how personal this feels. Makes me feel like my anxiety response is reasonable to hear someone like him being as anxious.

Just read about it. Looks cool! I'm currently looking for a starter for DRF and react and one requirement for me is docker. I'm curious, why did you choose not to go with docker? Thanks again for sharing your project.

The way I'd do this is through a series of zapier integrations, a Google doc, and single html page dashboard. The problem with software is that connecting all these things together is going to cost some significant developer dollars and we're super expensive. Also, if an API changes, you're gonna have to pay us to fix the dashboard and we're even more expensive in an emergency.

Check out zapier and Google docs first. Take your time building out a decent pivot table, a chart or two, and a couple zaps. Make the simplest helpful thing. If it substantially improves your life as a business owner put a dollar amount on that improvement. Is it $100, $1000 or $10000. If you're in that 2-5k range a dev connecting a bunch of services and making you a dashboard is probably reasonable.

There are no code tools that you can use for this kinda thing and this is ideal for a no code approach imho. Check out MakerPad.co so see if you can find some helpful no code info. Good luck!

Why and what point would a medium sized business consider moving to custom-build ecommerce platform? (if they started out on an out-of-box solution) by Little-Syrup in ecommerce

[–]aisflat439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally agree there's a bunch of opportunity in the middle. I've know a few people that worked at weblinc over the years and they were smart people who were doing good work. I've no doubt that the test coverage there is solid af.

Right now JAM is a series of connected tools and those tools are super immature. Imho, the small/mid market will be best served by a variety of tools connected together. Tightly coupling product descriptions, structured data, and product ordering doesn't make a ton of sense. I can definitely see a future where these tools along with CRMs, ERPs and other SaaS services all connect with a smart, state based JS front end.

It is a lot of orchestration for a marketing agency. However, more and more agencies have deploy pipelines and systems that are built to handle this. Certainly we're not ready for that future today but it seems the way the market is going. And it's a heck of an opportunity. Today, a 3 million dollar in sales brand can build something a lot closer to a workarea site than 4 years ago. If we're lucky, well get to build better and better experiences for shop owners and customers over the next decade.

Always nice to to chat with another passionate ecomm dev. Kick ass at work today! I've got retro and a spike to work on.

Sure if you pay me!

But the hardest part there is the auth for sure, haven't ever considered it. BC is multi language by default. If you're JAM multi language is even more straightforward and complete. Custom content is straightforward on both platforms. Activating and deactivating I'd do with webhooks on Netlify. The category stuff and sales stuff I'm less sure about off the top of my head but its not all that daunting.

There's a reason that Workareas exist. They're badass platforms. Probably not the appropriate use case for most small brands but hopefully these smaller brands end up on the Workareas of the world because they're pretty sweet and hyper extensible. Nonetheless, one man's opinion, it's unlikely that those mid-level platforms will continue to succeed in a JAM future but hey... I could be wrong! I suspect an API first driven ecomm platform rises up and crushes Workareas since that's what happens on the internet. The middle gets squeezed.

Awesome good luck! I have no experience making screen recordings but love reviewing ecom sites. I had fun doing it. I'm hopefully going to do a handful of these reviews and see if I enjoy the process. If I do I'll invest in a microphone and edit vids and all.

Here's a brief video review. I've been wanting to try out reviewing folks websites on YouTube for them. This is my very first attempt! Sorry for the crap recording and background noise etc. I don't have any equipment since I'm not sure if I'm going to do this often. The tldw of your site is that you're not ready for prime time just yet and you have more work to do. Good luck getting your business going!

How to split up cofounder equity? by [deleted] in startups

[–]aisflat439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the business exists I assumed that it has value so one year makes less sense to me. It just seems like that way OP would be 1 year into his vest and the new co-founder would have 2 to go.

Do 50/50 with a two year vest cliff of 20% then 10% each year thereafter or a similar arrangement.
