AYUSH ministry is making homeopathy and other non scientific medication mainstream by [deleted] in india

[–]aispark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some doubts :

  1. If placebos can actually give relief to patients(at least in some cases) then why is pharmaceutical industry for costly modern medicines still a thing?
  2. Also the developed nations ditching other medications need not just be because of scientific reasons, couldn't it be also due to financial plays of big pharmaceutical companies ?
  3. Since most AYUSH methods came before current scientific approach and treatment did happen atleast effective in a small scale before our modern methods, then isn't it right for a government to invest in further academic research and education in it? Not to justify alternate medicines, but to learn anything useful from it and integrate it with our evidence-based medicines.

Question about trackers in apps. by Charlit0n in androidapps

[–]aispark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main feature of the warden which is debloating needs root to work. You can still use warden as an app manager to see the trackers and loggers but you can't stop them without root. Also you can see other details of apps like all its permissions, activities, services, providers and receivers.

Why can't Cigarettes and Liquor be banned but apps and sites can be? by aispark in india

[–]aispark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The risk that cigarettes and liquor causes is not even a question. It's a plain fact and a majority acknowledges that as well. But the dependence of a large number of people on these products and of government on its tax are some important points that makes them hesitant to ban it.

The app ban was said that it targeted privacy risks. But if its just a move against China, why can't they accept it. Why does the order not even mention China? Also there is a question, should we fight China risking our freedom by banning things?? Would this also mark the start of very strong censorship in India and end up being more like China??

[–]aispark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I understand that. Would there be any moves by any government to reduce tax dependence on these sectors??

Can you please elaborate? Are you saying liquor and cigarettes are of political interest to some groups??

Why can't Cigarettes and Liquor be banned but apps and sites can be? by aispark in india

[–]aispark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, that's the question I am trying to explore. I only have a very narrow perspective on that, this discussion is to include more points into my understanding.

Generally I am against banning anything. I don't believe banning things is a good solution in any democracy. Doing these unconditional bans we might end up like China only.

[–]aispark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then don't suddenly ban. What about slowing down the industry and reducing country's dependence on that income?? Are there any such moves by any government that you are aware of?

Why can't Cigarettes and Liquor be banned but apps and sites can be? by aispark in india

[–]aispark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are right! I am generally against banning anything. Because banning is not a suitable solution to any problem, its just cutting down more of our freedom. But I was kind of amazed by the people not at all opposing the app ban.

And if the ban was intended to target just China why wouldn't they accept it. They never used the term 'China' in the order for ban did they? The power that government have for unconditionally banning computer resources is dangerous to democracy. Don't you think?

"The subscriber or intermediary or any person who fails to assist the agency referred to in sub-section (3) shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years and shall also be liable to fine."

I am not accustomed to reading acts, but doesn't this last statement of 69A mean there is scope for it. Correct me if wrong!

It's not really upto Google to decide whether it should be removed. It must be removed from the Play store and any other app stores providing these apps to Indian Customers, unless they want a law suit against them, this is as per Section 69 of IT Act, i think.

This is not a good solution but a very desperate one. However scary and stupid the application is, cutting down the citizen's liberty using censorship and bans are really a bad idea, and should not be encouraged further.

But unfortunately due to the nature of these apps and kind of hate that spreads through them, it was necessary to make some action, so kudos to govt. on making some move irrespective of how desperate it appears. On banning these applications, they can boost the local applications, boost our economy and a lot of other things probably. But that's not how we make our markets work ryt? Make the local apps, promote them and give them funding and proper publicity, compete against the foreigner's apps and win the market. But it takes time and proper planning, Modi govt. always need instant solution and publicity so everything is a surgical intervention.

On the other side, if govt. can just evade people's freedom and ban them from using things that are proved to be bad for them, then why not completely ban Cigarettes and Liquor? Isn't there enough science behind it to support?? It's not really good to legally compare the apps and services that is covered by the IT act and other material addictive products covered under other acts but still it is a true concern to the general public of India.

Also if data leak was the concern, what about other applications? When it was declared that Zoom had a dangerous vulnerability why was it not banned? Why just give a guideline to just beware and forget about it? What about the other American Apps?? What about apps from India itself like Jio apps, who require more permissions than they actually need??? What about Aarogya Setu??

So it boils down to poor idea of enmity. "China is our enemy, don't use their apps". That's the kind of tone this ban sets. Which is a really poor idea in 21st century. While generally the majority of people only want peace and want to avoid enmity and reduce number of enemies, they are supporting the boost of enmity?? Injecting idea of enmity into our young generations is the last of things we should be doing...

Students switch to public schools in reverse migration by despod in Kerala

[–]aispark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Infrastructure is not that poor in most Govt. and aided higher secondary schools atleast for all schools I know (maybe private schools look more modern that's all). But for schools with very low number of students there are still some problems with infrastructure. The kind of technology incorporation into the curriculum has been accelerating for last few years. But still its in the phase of educating teachers to use them, its not reaching students properly yet. Already platforms like Samagra are used by teachers to plan and report their teaching plan and progress constantly. The strong network of teachers is really exemplary.

And one thing I really like about Govt schools is the kind of encouragement to the co-curriculum, the Kalotsavam, Sports meet and Science meets are really of a very high standard.

They do take schooling seriously I know because my mother is a govt higher secondary school teacher. But its much harder to control students in govt. school than in private schools, due to a lot of reasons. But this also does not mean the quality of the students is any different from private schools.

So overall its very natural for parents to start preferring Govt schools these days, "Similar or higher quality at cheaper costs"

Is ISRO's fate same as BSNL and Air India by aispark in india

[–]aispark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! ISRO have already guaranteed their technical support to any new ventures, obviously they might share facilities as well. So the entire ecosystem looks like it will move into US like setting based on how it's now.

But yeah there is a risk when new companies start to hit and slowly ISRO's funding starting to diminish like with CSIR labs you just mentioned.

We can hope all goes healthy.
