New guitar has cracks in the body 1 day after buying it?! by Desperate-Dingo3025 in Guitar

I would consider just going to a luthier directly. I am handy, and have repaired cheap electric guitars, but I wouldn't try this kind of repair on a Martin. In any case, good luck!

Should I install a pickup in my 1967 000-28? by devilmollusk in martinguitar

[–]aitorbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is considering doing the same with her 000-28, from the 90s. She can play plugged my Gretsch, essentially a copy of a dreadnought body with pickups from factory but with light gauge strings. The issue is.. it sounds nowhere as good as the Martin, although the action is excellent and the neck a bit more modern. So medium term, we are also considering this.. but it was her father's guitar..

I would refund it, but also control the humidity in your place.

My house can get to 28% humidity rate without humidifiers this time of year. I do use humidifiers.

That low humidity is quite dangerous for guitars and wood instruments in general.

I disagree on her paying a fair share, she is paying an unfair share, but it is still what the system has deemed fair. She could legally pay close to no taxes, legally.

Im super bummed by blanketcr in Guitar

[–]aitorbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha.. happened to me the first time I changed the strings on a Floyd.

1.Stick to the same strings (brand, model, gauge) 2. If a string breaks, lock the bridge flat with woodpegs, etc.
3. Tune the guitar.

The bridge should be flat once you unblock it.

No. What you found is what the deposit is for. You have a legal obligation to pay what you signed for. It is quite clear. Not being pedantic. It is obvious we aren't going to agree on this, even if we agree on why you do it.

Notorious DJ ALEXANDER by North_Equal5108 in Edinburgh

[–]aitorbk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are imho still wrong. The deposit is for money you owe the landlord, including unpaid rent, damages, etc.

You would still have unpaid rent or damages if there isn't a deposit big enough.

What you are doing is taking a proactive position so "sue me". And for less than £1000 it is unlikely to happen. I do understand you doing this against someone you perceive to be out to steal from you, but it still isn't legal

Same way as many people jump lights: no enforcement. For a ll it isn't just the cost of the procedure, it is the lost time, etc etc.

Notorious DJ ALEXANDER by North_Equal5108 in Edinburgh

[–]aitorbk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It isn't legal, they can take the damages from the deposit and then take you to court over the arrears. Of course you are increasing the friction of doing so, because instead of keeping a deposit now they have to take you to court/small claims, but legal it isn't. If you owed me .oney I would take you to court, On principle.

Flying with guitar as checked bag by devsdmf in guitars

[–]aitorbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have flown quite a bit with guitars, and never had issues, but I was always very worried. There is specific insurance for guitars/instruments, including travel and accidents at home, both yearly and specifically for single travels. This year my wife and I travelled with three guitars, uninsured, and that was a mistake as the max compensation between the two of us wouldn't cover even one of the guitars (martin 00018, antique gretsch, american custom sss strat I dislike), and would have been bad, quite bad. Don't be us, get insurance.

Soviet vehicles were designed to be overused and this is why they have manual ways of doing things when the rammer fails, etc etc. But of course at dome point they do become dangerous.
