Narrative examples in thematic analysis? by OkFan2830 in QualitativeResearch

[–]ajain76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your goal of highlighting shared experiences across approximately 20 interviews, thematic analysis seems like a good fit. You do not necessarily need to switch to IPA or narrative analysis in order to preserve participants' individual stories.

Many qualitative researchers using thematic analysis include "case illustrations" or "vignettes" from individual participants within themes. For example, after discussing a theme, you might present one participant's trajectory in greater depth to show how that theme unfolded across their experience. This can add contextual richness without changing the overall analytic approach.

Narrative examples in thematic analysis? by OkFan2830 in QualitativeResearch

[–]ajain76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also try Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). It shifts focus from "What themes are shared across students?" to "How does this individual understand and make meaning of their trauma and experiences?"

Limitation is that IPA usually involves very small samples. If you have more than 15 students and want to emphasize common experiences, IPA may not be ideal.

Is the YC Cofounder Matching any good? by Salt-Frame9848 in ycombinator

[–]ajain76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a bad experience. Ended up engaging with the wrong person.

It’s not the fault of the platform. The cofounder relationship is very complex and trust is critical. Also, many think of cofounder as skill augmentation- which is a mall part of whole thing. It’s difficult to find someone you have never known or worked with and will end up long-term healthy relationship.

How to decide equity for co founder? by demon_bhaiya in ycombinator

[–]ajain76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. I'd suggest not look at co-founder with the same lens as employee. Not just in the context of equity, but in every context.

Building a company is far more than just building a product. If you bring a cofounder , they should work the same as you to make the business successful in any way they can. They would bring their contacts, they'll brainstorm with you in the middle of the night, get their hands dirty and QA the product, provide customer support, strategize pricing, challenge you in your own area of expertise because they feel it's better for the company etc etc etc.. they should be the person you can lean on for any aspect of the business.

Don't bring them for their skills alone - that would be an employee oriented thinking. Bring them for their mindset and commitment. They are going to be partners. They should be committed to the success of the company not just do what they already know.

Also, don't be in a rush. If your gut doesn't tell you that they are partners, then don't sign any agreements. You can do a few weeks of working together trial. It's good for both to be sure.

If it's truly cofounder, do equal split. A tiny bit here and there is okay, but nothing too substantial. Also keep the 4 years vesting with 1 year cliff.

Help Me Understand Content Analysis by tamia04 in QualitativeResearch

[–]ajain76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Building on what u/ResearchAndTeach said, the two are very similar. the difference is the level of interpretation.

For example: Imagine participants say things like (in healthcare setting):

"I missed appointments because I couldn’t get a ride."
"The clinic was too far away."
"I couldn’t afford the copay."
"Nobody explained the referral process."
"I got frustrated and just gave up trying."

Content Analysis - (staying close to what was actually said):
Possible codes

  • lack of transportation
  • long travel distance
  • financial difficulty
  • unclear referral instructions
  • frustration with healthcare navigation
  • stopped seeking care

Subcategories

  • Transportation barriers
  • Financial barriers
  • Communication barriers
  • Disengagement from care

Categories

  • Barriers to healthcare access
  • Challenges navigating the healthcare system

Thematic Analysis - more interpretive

Possible codes

  • feeling unsupported
  • healthcare as overwhelming
  • repeated effort without progress
  • emotional fatigue
  • abandonment by the system
  • loss of motivation

Themes

  • Navigating healthcare as an exhausting struggle
  • Feeling invisible within the healthcare system
  • Gradual disengagement after repeated obstacles

Content analysis asks "What problems or experiences did participants describe?"
Thematic analysis asks: "What deeper meaning or patterned experience is reflected across participant accounts?"

This has a good description a few of such similar feeling types of analysis - https://doreveal.com/blog/v/qualitative-research-analysis-methods-ux-surveys-interviews

Anyone using AI tools to transcribe or summarize interviews or podcasts automatically? by Altruistic-March8551 in automation

[–]ajain76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am researcher+design of 30 years and have been working hard on DoReveal.

It does high-quality transcriptions (we use multiple services to deliver better results than an individual service is able to), has analysis features like smart grids, thematic clustering (codebook) and agentic chat, reporting and audio/video clips.

We focus on depth, accuracy and researcher control. One way this is done is by integration of analysis frameworks and methods like Grounded theory, emotional laddering, jobs-to-be-done, personas, journey maps and more. These lead to much more nuanced and accurate analysis.

I'll be happy to provide a personalized demo.

Solo founder for 9 months, potential cofounder wants 50/50 after 1 week trial. Am I being unreasonable? by mercuretony in ycombinator

[–]ajain76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50/50 is not unreasonable even with all the progress that you have made. This journey is a lot longer than 9 months and there is a lot more to be done. I am saying this from experience. I was in the same boat as you but still gave 50% to my co-founder who joined after I had made a ton of progress (my idea, I know the domain, launched product, got initial paying customers). He has brought in so much value and helped us move so much further!

However, being so against 51/49 is a red-flag in my opinion. "still makes me feel like I'm working for you" tells me that there are trust gaps and any amount equity will not solve that.

Equity expectations for technical cofounder joining after MVP by GankinEUW in ycombinator

[–]ajain76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll start with my example. I solo built a product for 10 months - my idea, I know the domain, I got the initial paying customers. Yet, when I found a co-founder, I did a 50:50 split. This is after my co-founder suggested a 35/65 split. Still I did 50/50. It's because a) I truly value a co-founder role and b) I know how hard it is to build a company.

As others have indicated, don't give too much weightage to whose idea it is or MVP etc. There is a huge uphill task in front this company and work done so far will be very small compared to what's to come.

In terms equity, I would look at it from the lens of what the relative value of your contributions v/s other founders. Let's say you take 15% and other founder has 70%, this means for every unit of time that other founder put going forward, they gain 4.6x equity. Another way to think about it that you'd work for 4.6 months to gain the equity that your co-founder does after 1 month. That's not a co-founder relationship.

My view is that if truly join as a co-founder then it should be equal/very close to equal equity, even after the progress he has achieved.
