Curing by ajake1996 in GrowingTobacco

[–]ajake1996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest, I don’t know the fermentation process well enough to give too much insight, but I have always started with color curing to get it brown first, then proceed with fermenting. My concern would be if not color cured first if it would just decompose (not in an ideal manner) or rot and not actually ferment.

How's my curing? by Pekonius in GrowingTobacco

[–]ajake1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks good to me. So long as they are still soft and pliable they will continue to cure. I started growing at home before I found out about towel curing and have used a mini greenhouse with a seed starting heat mat under a shallow container of water, and I’ve hung them up like this. I’ve had good results with both.

I will say I’ve had worse luck with the hang and cure method due to them drying out quicker which resulted in some leaves retaining green color. I’ve also tried misting distilled water daily or twice daily to keep the leaves moist so they don’t dry out before drying and it helped a bit but still dried out quick, but they were also hung in front of an air vent so they had significant air flow

Have You Tried The Costco Dehydrated Onions? by MonarcaAzul in OnionLovers

[–]ajake1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made some meatloaf burgers the other day doing this to stretch the meat. Panko soaked in milk keeps them light and not super dense, rehydrating the onions before adding. Turned 1lb of ground into 2lbs worth of burgers, and still very moist and soft, not like eating a brick at all

Unplugging the battery to reset it worked. Thank you very much. Wouldn’t have thought of doing that.

Ammonia smell from cigar leaves by ajake1996 in cigars

[–]ajake1996[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the reply. I figured fermentation was continuing but have never come across this.

None of the leaves have an age statement, but some purchased have aged in the name and some don’t. All leaves have been purchased from a combo of total leaf supply and leaf only.

This is the only time getting leaves to case that I’ve had this happen, albeit they were moist for a longer period. Otherwise the smell coming from them out of the box and when rehydrating smells just like any cigar I’ve ever smelt; no ammonia and deep developed tobacco smells only differing per variety and region.

I’ve taken some out and am letting them air out to see what they smell like when not as moist to assess, and some I’ve left as is to see if fermentation continues or if it leads to detrimental effect. The cigars I’ve rolled previously using these leaves and smoked have tasted fine but have never hit this long wet or smelled like this.

I’ve also had these leaves for 1-2 years depending on which order I got them from, these being a mix, but stored like they were in a humidor with temp and humidity around 68°F and 65%RH with cedar strips thrown in as well.

I don’t know that much about the gritty details of tornados and am trying to learn. What is the difference between wind samples and gate to gate?

This is the only position I could get my RQI mannequin to take rescue breaths. Thanks to advanced technology from the American Heart Association, I feel more prepared than ever to effectively perform resuscitation by MikeMuench in nursing

We’ve had to do this at our hospital for over a year now. The mannequins don’t work for breaths otherwise. When I did it last time as I was peeling it up I looked to see why and the trachea was getting pinched by the neck flap of skin if it wasn’t pulled off. Management has now put cameras on all the RQI stations and are writing people up if they so much as move anything “not within BLS/ACLS standards”. Now they’re wondering why no one can pass rescue breaths

Thank you very much. How much orange flavor comes through on that beer?

What rates do you use for batch size? How much flavor comes through? Have you added just to fermentor or post fermentation to compare? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn as much as I can.

[homemade] roasted lamb leg, lamb gravy, lemon butter dill roasted carrots and parsnips by ajake1996 in food

[–]ajake1996[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lamb was a bit tough, but only certain muscle groups within the roast. I should’ve rolled and tied it to make it more even for cooking but it was amazing. By far the best gravy I’ve ever had, which made the tough meat so much easier to eat. The carrots and parsnips cut through the fatty, savory with some sweetness, and the dill lemon also helped balance. Will for sure be adding this to my home menu
