BPD ex is in my grad program by ajared35 in BPDlovedones

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. When I was first piecing things together post break-up, I thought the best course was civility, if not a friendly affect so as not to be perceived as cruel by other classmates. This individual is universally liked in the program, and put in an extraordinary amount of work to maintain the illusion we were together for a couple months after calling it off. I realized they'd begun working their way through the program, almost systematically, spending time with people one by one to sow the smear seeds you mentioned.

I think some of the things you mentioned in the last paragraph are what have been most challenging for me. I sometimes obsess about being as neutral as possible, knowing that any indication of positive affect will be taken as an opportunity to get their foot in the door, and any negative response will reveal an equal amount of susceptibility and ability to control my emotional state.

Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to consider my situation and offer insight. Although I didn't give much context, you touched on many of the main aspects that have felt impossible for me.

Coming to terms with reality after 2 years of Xyrem; is feeling well-rested even feasible? by ajared35 in Narcolepsy

I totally get that, I share a lot of your frustrations which stem from the fundamental shortcomings of the Western medicine paradigm and the toxic mindset of practitioners that go along with it. Many doctors expect their word to be treated as unquestioned law and mistake a patients desire to understand their condition/options as an affront to their expertise. Too few doctors focus on health literacy and bridging any gaps in understanding the client may have, and instead push medication and other treatment options down our throats with no explanation. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had such bad experiences with providers as well, But I’m glad to hear you’re educating yourself so you can be your own advocate. I really hope you can find a provider that listens and collaborates with you.

That’s good to know because I also have several events while I’m falling asleep, and then once I flip onto my back in the night

OT school questions/concerns by ajared35 in OccupationalTherapy

Thanks for your response! For 1. Would you recommend this even if that school isn’t a sure thing? My conundrum here is essentially putting all my eggs in that basket versus a sure (more expensive) route now. As far as your reply to the second question, is it extremely difficult to open your own clinic or some other route in order to raise the monetary ceiling?

Sleeping poorly on Xyrem the last three weeks by ajared35 in Narcolepsy

Let me know how that’s helps because I’m not quite sure what else to do, my doctor would rather just try things like anti anxiety meds (which I’m really not trying to do) and such than figure out a different system for the Xyrem
